Todd Bowles Addresses The Road To Blowout Wins
October 12th, 2022Joe asked fans to stop the style-points freakout a few hours after Sunday’s 21-15 win over Atlanta. And yesterday head coach Todd Bowles was hit with a question about whether regularly winning a little ugly is sustainable for a Super Bowl contender.
It was a great question on the Buccaneers Radio Network by host Casey Phillips.
And Bowles gave an insightful answer, even if the spin might qualify Bowles for a congressional run.
“You call them character wins early in the season,” Bowles said. “You’re going to learn how to play and how to win different ways. You’re not going to get blowouts and style points for every win. A lot of these games are one-score games. A lot of them are one-score games. Occasionally, you’ll get those blowouts; hopefully we have some coming. But they’re character wins, they build mental toughness.
“You want to learn different ways to win while you find out who you are as a team. So we’re finding that out and we’re still finding ways to win. So when it finally clicks, the consistency of how we’ve won, compared with the fundamentals and technique and schematically, when everybody’s on the same page, you’ll start to see those leads expand some — hopefully.”
Joe gets the Bowles message. It’s a coach’s way of saying, ‘We expect to grind out wins now any way we can and peak in December.’

Sorry Joe, I don’t interpret Todd Bowles response to the question that way at all. His response was quite clear I think: every game is different; some are blow-outs, some are 1-score games. And he’s correct; last season 6 of our games (35%) were decided by one score or less. Same number in 2020 (6 games). And we were a VERY high-scoring team both years.

Hopefully he can help his bored defense to want to play if they like. If not, maybe they can play Madden.
Imagine millionaire football players can’t get into their trade. Most offer nothing else to society and they’re bored. My, my, my

This team misses BA……
Bowles should be saying”We slacked off and that’s totally unacceptable…..we are going to address that in a big way going forward”

There’s a difference between a style point win and nearly blowing a 21 to 0 lead in the 4th to a team who was missing their best players on offense and was bottom 10 even with them. And yes Joe without the phantom Roughing of Brady we would have likely blown that game like it or not.

This is the offense for now. 9 , count them, 9 new pieces on offense this year. Got a long way to go to be a finished product. The defense is somewhat worrisome because of some big runs being given up but I think they’ll get that ironed out too. Need Logan Ryan back in a big way.

The most pleasant surprise to me has been the offensive line. It’s good to get Donovan Smith back.

After out SB win, we kept, what? 21 of 22 Bucs starters. This year we have many new faces: Jones, Gage, Hicks; All 3 of the new signees are more myth than legend at this point; what have those 3 contributed? For a couple of games, 4 out of 5 Olinemen (when Smith was down) were new. Plus no Gronk for TB to look for in those needed 3rd down situations.
The team clearly needs some time to gel. And Maybe Licht made a mistake on some of those FA signings – it happens

Here’s what we have found out so far…we start slow and if we get a comfortable lead, certain players get “bored” and we let a team climb back into it. This will NOT cut it down stretch! We have also learned that our run D is very suspect and there appears to be a lack of leadership on the defensive side of the ball!

Maybe the coach should put in a full week instead of personal days off. I to cannot get over the White comment. If Bowels had any nads he should chew him a new ahole. I would love to know what the linebackers coach does cause he ain’t teaching White how to break down, hit & wrap and tackle with his shoulders. This guy thinks he’s in a rodeo pulling bulls down by their horns.

The
Redskins had
Allen and his over the hill gang, what will we call these Bucs?

Blowouts are rare in the NFL, just win baby. Don’t care how ugly, or by how much we win, just keep stacking W’s. Buc fans are just miseable SOB’s. Three young D linemen got sacks Sunday. Hall, JTS, Senat, yet the next day everyone is crying for Suh, and JPP. Shmucks! But JPP got a sack for the Ravens, JTS, Hall, Senat, Vea each got one for us. So you want to bench young up coming players for SUH, and JPP? Some have even suggested bringing McCoy back. Just crazy.

Todd is finding ways to lose in other words. The collapse against the Fowl. The “never show up” offense against the Fudge. The idiotic delay of game on the 2 point conversion.
Learning that your team is soft should not take this long Todd. Everyone sees it. What are you doing about it besides yammering?

Tampabaybucfan nailed it: “This team misses BA.”
The team has No swag. No energy. No passion.
From what I’m seeing, that’s Bowles’ personality.

Interested to see how physical we are next week. Steelers going to be hungry and we don’t have an identity imo.
October 12th, 2022 at 12:09 pm
Tony — I’m expecting the Bucs to be physically dominated because they haven’t shown me anything since the Cows game that suggests otherwise.
Todd can’t teach or inspire the team to play faster and more physical than the opponent for 60 minutes.

The lack of continuity on offense has hurt. Playing with 3 new OL on the inside has been a big adjustment. Losing Gronk and receiver injuries have hurt. Being 3-2 isn’t awful with all that instability.
October 12th, 2022 at 12:22 pm
If everyone shows up and shows out…the Bucs should win in a blowout against a 1-4 team. No matter how “pissed off” the Steelers might be.
Go Bucs!!!

character wins. Smiley you’re not being paid for “OJT, on the job training” unfold your arms and sit your dumb1&^ on the bench and let Tom call the plays. settling for character wins will catch up to us and we’ll be on the couch watching in Jan and Feb. BRUCE!!!! HERE BRUCE. COME ON BOY!!

The more I watch this Bucs defense and hear coach Bowles, the more I like him.
I think this Joe hit the nail on the head, grinding out some wins different ways now is fine. You may have to grind out a close one in the playoff but at some point, (Maybe December or January) this team will hit on all cylinders.

This man serves word salad so often he is clearly qualified to be Vice President of The United States of America. I am growing concerned, however, how much it qualifies someone to be a head coach in the NFL.
October 12th, 2022 at 3:21 pm
I really cringed at his word, “hopefully”. He is coaching the team and then HOPING? I hope he stops babying the team.
