Odell Beckham With Bucs Makes “Sense”

October 12th, 2022

Still looking.

At this point, you cannot tell Joe the Bucs are deep at receiver.

Sure, Mike Evans and Chris Godwin are total studs. Stars. No doubt about that. But after that, woof.

Joe is not dogging Russell Gage but man, it seems the guy has been hurt since this spring. Through the first four games, Gage was but one of three receivers to who have run at least 100 routes without one being a deep route.

Joe doesn’t think the Bucs dropped $30 million in Gage’s lap to be a possession receiver averaging seven yards per catch.

Julio Jones? He’s all name right now. The former All-Pro is now basically a rumor. This week Bucs coach Todd Bowles openly spoke about possibly putting Julio on ice to make sure he can play — in January!

After that you are talking about injured Breshad Perriman, Scotty Miller — his one big play in the playoffs is now so far in the past Miller is best known now for being interfered with — and Jaelon Darden, who has done nothing as a receiver.

So no the Bucs are not deep.

This is why Joe is monitoring the Odell Beckham stroke tour, which the Bucs have reportedly been involved in.

Beckham, who is rehabbing after major knee surgery in February, would be the closest thing the Bucs could have to a third reliable deep threat since Antonio Brown wigged out and did his topless jumping jacks stunt at MetLife Stadium.

Jeremy Fowler of BSPN believes very much that Beckham would be a natural fit.

Why the Bucs make sense: The Bucs are a threat for any veteran playmaker as long as Brady is still playing. They gave Julio Jones $6 million in guarantees this offseason despite boasting impressive receiver depth — of which early-season injuries are proving there’s never enough. Godwin, Jones and Russell Gage have been fixtures on the injury report, while Evans missed Week 3 via suspension.

Brady long has expressed an affinity for Beckham’s game. The Bucs have $5.2 million in cap space, and if they need more, restructuring left tackle Donovan Smith’s $18.4 million cap number could be an option.

The Bucs also could rearrange the contracts of others. If the Bucs want Beckham (read: If Tom Brady wants), the Bucs will rearrange the furniture.

If the Bucs somehow land Beckham and coax foot-rubbing Rob Gronkowski back, Joe fully envisions the Bucs playing in Arizona in February.

So did Julio Jones, Hicks, Gage, Beasely and the rest of the dudes from the island of broken down toys.

    Licht blew this offseason. HUGLEY.

    Licht blew this offseason. HUGLEY.

How? He got the greatest quarterback out of retirement and lured Ryan Jensen and Carlton Davis back. That’s not exactly shatting the bed.

  3. Anonymous Says:

OBJ hasn’t been good since he left the Giants. Sucked on the Browns. Mediocre on the Rams.

  4. Goatfarmer Says:

    Trenches trenches trenches

Tom obviously is not confident in his pass pro — he throws passes early and off because he doesn’t want to take the hit/sack. Don’t blame him. Get some damn trench help on both sides of the ball if you’re gonna trade or sign anyone. With enought time, the skill players the Bucs have are good enough. With time and Tommy’s confidence.

Now — to keep OBJ from going elsewhere? Yeah well maybe if he wants to come play for cheap. I doubt he does. Neither does Suh or Gronk.

  5. Stanglassman Says:

Last week was the first time a saw any burst out of Gage. I think he’s finally getting healthy. I’m expecting a much better 2nd half out of him.

I just don’t think OBJ will be fully healthy anytime this season. Reminds me too much of Revis. Paying someone for their rehab year. Godwin had one of the quicker recoveries and he was traveling around not rehabbing. OBJ injury was two months later. Dec 19 bs Feb 13th.

  6. Kody Says:

Naw, OBJ will just be another very expensive disappointment.

I like our receivers. They had two awesome drives against the Falcons where they looked unstoppable. Now we just have to expand on that and put together five or six amazing drives each game.

Evans and Godwin are gods. Gage needs to get 100% healthy and step it up and he’ll be great. Miller looked the best he has in the Atlanta game.

And Lenny, R.White, Cade and Ko are all solid receivers that are gonna start worry opposing teams a lot as the season progresses.

We have the talent. We just need better play call and coaching to make it all work.

  7. BucsNoles Says:

Letting Tyler Johnson go sounds like a mistake at this point.
    Cheap depth for sure

  8. Pewter Power Says:

What are we talking about here. How many stars do we need at receiver? Who is 4 receivers deep in the nfl? No way in hell should we need 3-4 stars to be good on offense. Dallas doesn’t, eagles don’t, San Fran, bills, dolphins, ravens, packers and on and on. There is another issue with this team

  9. Whoolio? Says:

Stanglassman‐ Gage did not look healthy last week. Maybe he did on TV but at the game it was clesr that he ran decent routes before literally limping back to the huddle after every play. Dude needs an IR stint to get healthy but we can’t afford that at this point.

    Arizona 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣

  11. Daryl Green Says:

San Fran is tougher, Philly, Hell I watch Detroit play harder than we do.

Lol I have been a nice fan for a long time and this Pitt gm has that rookie qb

Feel. Who’s tackling Najee ? “Devin Ice Skates White”

  12. Listnfrmafar Says:

Gage is doing pretty good for a guy nursing a hamstring injury, those take a long time to heel. After watching the Vegas/KC game it makes me sick knowing BL calls the plays for the Bucs. High school play book.

  13. Pewter Power Says:

    Devin Ice Skates White 😂😂😂😂

  14. Jack Says:

The patriots won the superbowl in 2018 with a slot receiver and an injured Tight End that was struggling to get open. NO DEEP THREAT.

  15. Jack Says:

We don’t need another injured old man.

  16. stu padaso Says:

    —JUST SAY NO—

  17. SOEbuc Says:

Gage has been forced on the field every week like he doesn’t have a bad hamstring. Tom is definitely not throwing the deep ball in comparison to the past two years, and with his dinged up hand, I don’t want him to as long as we can still. Spend any money on a trade or FA to rotate or take over for Goedeke.

  18. SOEbuc Says:

    *still gain yards

  19. TOMMY MORDUE Says:

KINDA BELIEVE IT WOULD BE A WASTE OF MONEY (AL’A:JULIO JONES) WE ALREADY HAVE THE RECIEVERS DARDEN HAS EARNED MORE PLAYING TIME )WE NEED DEPTH ON THE OFFENSIVE LINE TO PROTECT BRADY & GIVE HIM TIME TO THROW…THE YOUNG MAN FROM W.KENTUCKY WHO SET ALL THOSE AMAZING NCAA RECORDS NEEDS TO BE BROUGHT BACK..THE MAN HAS GREAT HANDS..( IF HE’S STILL AVAILABLE)..
