Tom Brady Checked Out Of QB Sneak Call On Third TD Versus Chiefs
October 8th, 2022Like any red-blooded fan, Joe loves inside information on the Buccaneers.
Joe is spoiled and gets a lot more than most fans, much of which Joe isn’t free to share, but this little nugget was buried in the Salty Dogs podcast at the official team website.
Rookie running back Rachaad White explained that his late third-quarter touchdown from inside the Chiefs’ 1 yard line on Sunday was originally a QB sneak call for Tom Brady. Brady, however, checked out of the play and gave the ball to White to run off right tackle.
White found a nice hole set up by Tristan Wirfs, Ko Kieft and Mike Evans for his his first NFL TD.
Joe has noticed Brady not running sneaks this season and Joe assumed it was tied to the finger injury he sustained against the Saints in Week 2.
Extending your hand into the ground to a pile of bodies is a great way to re-injure a bad finger. But it seems that if the QB sneak was the call to cut the Chiefs’ lead to 14 points with a quarter to play, then Brady’s finger must not be a concern.

All you have to do is read the headline of your previous post Joe. Safe and mentally sound Tom Brady. You don’t need to be Einstein to figure out a 45 year old man shouldn’t dive into a pile of 300 lb. men when the game is pretty much out of reach.
October 8th, 2022 at 1:26 pm
I want to see white run the ball more!!
October 8th, 2022 at 2:19 pm
Is this the Tom Brady web site?, how about talking about the fumbles he lost.
October 8th, 2022 at 2:24 pm
Why talk about a fumble? White had a horrible one and nicely made up for it. No one is perfect. It is much better to talk about the good stuff which usually outweighs the bad, anyway.

Doc, in the last few posts there have been posts about Keanu Neal, Kyle Rudolph and Mike Evans. And yes Tom Brady. Brady is our quarterback and a superstar and a legend in this game. Are you really complaining about some posts regarding our quarterback?
October 8th, 2022 at 2:26 pm
I don’t think it’s the finger that’s suppressing QB sneaks, I think it’s Brady’s loss of weight. He’s alley cat skinny. Simple physics.
October 8th, 2022 at 2:27 pm
Well Doc, to be honest, this team wouldn’t be sh!t without Tom Brady.
October 8th, 2022 at 2:36 pm
He got hurt against the Bills last year on a QB sneak.
October 8th, 2022 at 2:38 pm
Ignore the trolls.
October 8th, 2022 at 2:54 pm
Doc is a dope. Dude gets blindsided n fumbled not fumbles it was only 1 fella

Since 2001, Brady has sneaked 157 times. It might seem like a trivial stat. However, when sneaking, he has a cumulative 140 expected points added. It equates to around an extra TD per season. Again, that may not appear important, but one extra TD can mean the difference between a 1 seed or a 3. Nobody is even close to Brady for career sneaks. Drew Brees is a distant second with 85.
October 8th, 2022 at 3:24 pm
If Brady changes a call, it’s probably the correct call.
October 8th, 2022 at 3:29 pm
Good job on finding those stats, Redeemer. Some analysts/experts have repeatedly stated, at least the last 10 years, that Brady is in another stratosphere concerning QB sneaks. Another thing he is the master of. If he checked out of a sneak, I’m sure he had a good reason. Result? TD for his O.

Cool story.
Now Tom just needs to check out of most of Byromoron’s first down calls.

Deven Thompkins and Geiger were elevated today. Doesn’t look good for Gage and Jones playing. Could be D. Thompkins chance tomorrow!
October 8th, 2022 at 5:10 pm
Could be Gage & Scotty sitting or Perriman
October 8th, 2022 at 5:19 pm
Maybe Godecke and Hainsey can’t get the push Brady needs.

I often wonder if the Joe’s pontificating is actual knowledge but just can’t state it as fact due to journalistic integrity and general human decency.

Got a hunch we’ll see a fairly ‘balanced’ Bucs attack tomorrow, say 40%-45% run-pass ratio. Falcons have given up quite a few more running yards than we have, and I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see the Bucs use a good mix of run-pass plus up-tempo to wear the Falcons’ defense out early. They’re vulnerable. Not the kind of team that can easily come back if they fall behind early.
Falcons barely won the game against the Browns. Actually it was more like ‘the Browns lost it than the Falcons won it’. Browns shot themselves in the foot with 2 turnovers (sound familiar?), but won virtually every other stat (big deal, still lost the game).

Last time he ran he had that awkward old man appear in the non athletic slide, twisted his knee brace , yeah that was not good.
October 8th, 2022 at 5:41 pm
D-Rok, My favorite sneak was in the 2014 AFC title game. Brady actually checked into the play. It was glorious. By the time Ray Lewis recognized the check, Brady lunged over the plain and scored. Their helmets collided, the Pats took the lead. That was a tremendous football game.
October 8th, 2022 at 5:55 pm
I’m going to guess that Brady was checking out of a lot of plays on Sunday, and that’s why the offense was finally moving.
October 8th, 2022 at 6:39 pm
Brady has won a ton of games because the other team/coach is stupid. Not so sure the coaching advantage is still there, but he still has a tremendous. advantage. He’s older than a lot of coaches in the league. Think the average age of an NFL head coach is around 50.

Has Ryan Jensen’s swelling in his knee gone down so they can get an x-ray? 🤦♂️
This has been so weird. I guess it wasn’t so bad he needs surgery. If it’s still swollen, I think we need a new team of doctors.
October 8th, 2022 at 7:31 pm
When are our receivers going to get healthy.
October 8th, 2022 at 8:34 pm
Todd, maybe we should hire that Dr. The Dolphins fired. He could tell Jensen he’s good to go.
October 8th, 2022 at 9:43 pm
10-7 at best
October 8th, 2022 at 10:19 pm
Correct me but, I counted three receiving 1st-downs and one rushing 1st down for a total of four 1st- downs by Rachaad White.
It gives me no pleasure to point out that Scotty Miller, Johnson and Gio were dropping these plays last year; a good reason why they’re not seen in the Brady-offense this year.
This is a big story in my mind:
Brady has been understandably praying for a James White, Julian Edelman, Welker or Kevin Faulk since day-one with the Buccaneers.
Maybe he has it with Rachaad White.
I’d like to think that the “plumb TD” was a reward to Rachaad for a game well-played indeed.
October 8th, 2022 at 10:30 pm
Rachel White is no relation to James White. In any way whatsoever.
Time for my weekly plea for the DardOn to show out like his fan boys pant heavily that he will. C’mon, DardOn, the crow from last week has been in my trunk at the airport in 90degree heat. It isn’t getting better.
Do something tomorrow. Anything. For the Bucs, I mean.
October 8th, 2022 at 11:39 pm
If Tom checks out and trusts the rookie Rashad to get there, then we should also. He effed up but he’s got skills. Tom believes in him and that’s good enough for me
October 9th, 2022 at 7:53 am
I would pay to see Dic blindsided by a blitzing corner and see if he gets up. DR, I know you want a more balanced O but if Bucs kept it on the ground last week, Bucs aren’t scoring near 31 points. KC forced the Bucs to be one dimentional and it happened early. Bucs spent the last two seasons doing to same to other teams. Brady probably checked out because the nose shifted over center or he did get hit in the shoulder earlier.
October 9th, 2022 at 8:19 am
DR, the Bucs lost to a healthy premier team by 10. They gave said team 14 points in gifts aka turnovers. You’re right in pointing out that the Bucs shot themselves in the foot. However, the Defense played one of the worse games I’ve ever seen. And I had to watch it cos I couldn’t get Bucs Radio for some weird reason. I sure hope Bowles’ Defense shows up today. And Mike Edwards was one of the very few bright spots on that D.
