Tom Brady on Sunday Night Football means two things from NBC.
The first is a lot of cool Brady graphics. The second is former Bucs quarterback Chris Simms on the pregame and halftime shows breaking down all kinds of Xs and Os as the NBC Sports film guru.
Already there’s a good Simms breakdown at NBCSports.com, where Simms explains that Brady has displayed “an aggressive frame of mind” all season despite not throwing deep as often. The film shows Brady is looking but isn’t finding as many targets open, Simms said. Of course, that’s no surprise given all the Bucs’ injuries at receiver.
Joe was pleased to hear this from Simms because it is evidence that the no-risk-it-no-biscuit brand of ball hasn’t left the building.
During the Simms segment, the graphic above appeared. It illustrates how much better Brady is when he uses play-action, and Simms is confident that’s the best way for the Bucs to beat the Chiefs on Sunday night.
The Bucs’ renewed focus on their run game, Simms believes, will bear fruit Sunday with the Chiefs being forced to respect the run and leading to Mike Evans running free more than the Chiefs would like.
And yeah, Simms is sure Brady has every ounce of arm talent needed to hit Evans — and others — to carve up Kansas City like he did in February of 2021.

Getting Evans back will definitely help the offense.
I don’t think Godwin, Jones or Smith will play. What about Gage, is he injured too? Hopefully at least he can go, since he finally started making some plays last week.

Man you know dang well BL doesn’t call play action as he should and it has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with Brady being 45. Heck even Jameis was good at it and BL stubbornly wouldn’t use it. I’m with you when you say if people are going to be on him about play calls then give him credit when plays go right but bottom line his run design is high school level. Here’s something for those that believe Brady calls his own stuff when things go right. If that was true would we consistently run to the left on 1st as we do? Because if Tom has the authority to change the play as he sees fit why does he not get out of the 1st down run to the left with a stacked box? Just something to think about.

Goatfarmer is Spot on, All one cut plain vanilla routes. Miller and Cam Brate have 0 lateral quickness. They aint fooling nobody.
The OC is a such a moron. No plan to create holes for an RB. Lombardi Lenny pretty much gets his won yards on toughness alone and not scheme.

You all forget where no riskit no biskit comes from. Coach Arrogance who before he came here made no use of tight ends and running backs in catching game. It’s his system not BL’s. We all know Brady pretty much had to force Arians to put play action in so stop putting all the blame on BL. Besides if Brady wanted to don’t you think he would use it more since so many think he’s the one who forced Arians upstairs???

That chart is missing important info.
What percentage of the time are we not using play action vs using play action?
INT % is obviously better in play action and about 2.25 yds more per pass but twice as many TDs in non play action.
I agree we need to use more PA but this chart doesn’t tell the whole story.

Successful play action passing has nothing to do with running attempts, or running success for that matter. It’s a misconception. Defenses are just as apt to bite, no matter if a team can or can’t run the ball. I know it sounds counterintuitive, but it’s fact.
