Hurricane Ian And The Buccaneers

Joe realizes most locals will wake up this morning and grab their phones for a panicky look at the development of Hurricane Ian.
The map above is the latest as of 4:30 a.m. And it means the Buccaneers likely will be on the move this week.
The NFL does not stop and the Bucs are scheduled to host the Chiefs on Sunday night at The Licht House. But the game could be relocated or played without fans.
The storm should be far out of town by then, but hosting a game is more about staffing the stadium and having enough police and emergency personnel available, in addition to critical services like power.
The Bucs and the stadium authority may not be able to guarantee what’s necessary for Sunday, so the Bucs and the NFL would opt to move the game in that scenario.
While the game may stay in Tampa, the Bucs likely will leave town regardless so they will not miss critical practice time. Back in 2017, Hurricane Irma canceled Tampa Bay’s opening day game and the team headed to North Carolina to practice while the storm was around the Tampa Bay area.
Joe knows there are many more important things that football. But this is a space to talk about how anything and everything affects the Bucs. So Joe is going there this morning.
If Sunday’s game is relocated, Joe thinks the Titans’ home stadium in Nashville is a strong candidate.
Joe has no doubt the Bucs want to play on grass, and the team has familiarity with the stadium after playing there this preseason and staying at a hotel compound nearby for five nights. The Titans have a road game on Sunday. A second choice could be Miami, as the Dolphins are on the road, too.

Depending on how bad it is and if South Florida isn’t affected much it would be better to move it to Miami.

On a selfish note – since I no longer live in Tampa and shouldn’t be affected by the storm – but this comment is storm related. A family member went to the game from our community just south of D.C. He took advantage of the “Big Storm” 1/2 off sale on libations. I scored a case of Bro’mosa Tangerine IPA! Can’t get it where I live. Hooo’ray me!

Miami is where Brady wanted to play anyway, why not give him what he wants. How about that ring finger? That is no jammed finger that has surgery written all over it. I wish some of his teammates like Jones, Smith, Hicks had the balls to play through the pain. Here’s an idea, let’s save them for future games. F THAT!!!

God watch over all you folks. I have no skin in the Tampa Bay real estate market anymore, but have friends and family, one sitting in a gas line almost as I type. As far as the game goes, you know the players will have half a mind on their neighbors, friends, and family in Tampa Bay. So we will be at a disadvantage in any case. Under the moving scenario, I’d think Miami would be the best situation. Make KC sweat in the Florida sun, in the dark red uniforms. And it might be a good time to take a trip to Miami, if you have good homeowners and flood insurance policies.

According to what i read, depending on the situation, the commissioner can reschedule the game on a Monday or Tuesday later in the season.

I am a little confused on the Nashville talk. Isn’t there some possibility that on Saturday that Nashville could be dealing with remnants of Tropical storm Ian so their emergency personnel and staffing would be naturally affected as well.

I remember pointing this out last Wednesday and someone in here told me you couldn’t predict where a hurricane was going to land a week out and when it doesn’t even exist yet. Amazing technology we have now.
With that said, the latest models, at least the Eurotrash model, keeps moving everything west. It’s been the most east biased model to this point, but now it is moving it to panhandle landing and while we’d get something weather, it wouldn’t be that much. BUT the GFS, which had been one of the more west biased models, now has it as a direct hit on Tampa. So they completely flipflopped. Historically the Eurotrash model is much more accurate than the GFS, but the GFS has gotten better in the last few years, seemingly, or at least it has gotten more lucky.
Probably late tonight we’ll have a much better idea of if it’s going to mess things up here or not – but I’ll stick by my prediction from the beginning, it’s going into the panhandle and we’ll get a limited amount of weather from it.

If there is legit talk about moving it to Miami, that is actually a pretty great idea.
Then again, they could just keep it in Tampa. This isn’t forecast to actually hit us, just to sit off the shore. It would rain a lot, but so what, the field can take that. It would clear out by Friday night, so everyone should be able to get in on Saturday. The biggest issue is where to practice during the week.
In any case it’s a Sunday night game, and they should wait as long as possible before making any announcement. At the very least just wait until tomorrow afternoon, as we’ll likely have a very very good idea of how it’s going to affect us by then.

Rod… as a long time, now former resident, been there, done that. The problem for the Tampa area will historically be mostly power outages, tree falls, wind damage, and flooding. And if it is passing by as a category three or four, particularly at high tide, much of all four can be expected. So hunker down, get out the board games and the small fans, and light up the generator… if you have one.

Rod,Tampa will be in the eyewall,I am not weather person,it a 100 percent certain,and they say 20 ft waves will be push in from the Northeast quadrant,the strongest part of the eyewall into Tampa Bay

I am not a meteorologist,but I am a Cowboy fan,,Raymond James Stadium will be in the Northeast Quadrant,it time for you to get out while you can , Miami is the best area to ride the storm out,heading North is very risky unless it done Today, Miami will be about 200 miles from the eyewall,100 percent chance Tampa will be in the strongest part of the storm when it passes over for days ,with Katrina Like Flooding Google Darksky Tampa Google Zoom Earth

How about those boys, Tuesday is gonna be crucial,so get a good night sleep,but Wednesday morning is the drop dead date,the best is too head to Miami,before Wednesday, because starting Wednesday all hell is gonna,break lose Remember what happens to Houston in Harvey ,it could happen in Tampa ,this storm is gonna be over most of Florida for 2 or 3 days, Friday is gonna the be only days ,you will sleep peacefully in Tampa only a train metrologist,have an idea of this hell storm,I am not a meteorologist ,they say the 48 hr track is best track out Tuesday
