Cole Beasley Did The Selling To Tom Brady
September 21st, 2022It is no surprise that a big selling point for veteran receiver Cole Beasley to sign with the Bucs is the same guy who wears No. 12.
But unlike past players who Tom Brady openly recruited to help the Bucs win another Super Bowl, it was Beasley who played the part of an outbound salesman.
“I will be honest, I was hitting him up a lot,” Beasley said when Joe asked him if Brady recruited him.
Naturally, the opportunity arose when the Bucs started getting so many injuries at receiver. Todd Bowles confessed today that even at a deep position, it is worrisome when there are so many injuries at the same position.
For Beasley, he’s just happy to have work. To find it with Tom Brady is cake, icing and an extra bowl of frosting on the side.
“I have been wanting to play with Brady for a long time,” Beasley said. “I’m excited about the opportunity and am excited to get back at it.”
How soon Beasley can get on the field in a game is yet to be determined. Beasley said he thinks he can learn enough this week that if needed, his number can be called.
“I won’t know everything,” Beasley confessed. “But it is a little easier when you are just studying a gameplan. That will at least help me in my favor.”
This is the first time in Beasley’s career that he hasn’t been with a team for both OTAs and a training camp.
“I have a lot of catching up to do,” Beasley said. “I don’t know what my role will be at this moment but I am coming in humble and ready to be a part of it.”
Bowles was non-committal about activating Beasley for Sunday’s game with the Packers. Bowles did refer to Beasley as a “viable receiver” in case the Bucs need him Sunday.

Do you guys think he rhymed his pitch in Brady’s DM inbox? The dude does have bars
September 21st, 2022 at 3:10 pm
Some folks have mentioned some past personality and/or locker-room issues with Cole in the past (unless I misread it)… and I honestly don’t know anything about that aspect of it.
But this seems to make it pretty clear that Cole is going to be extremely happy to be here and only want to do anything possible for it to be a success.
September 21st, 2022 at 3:17 pm
I’ve never heard of any locker room issues just the whole anti-vax issue.
September 21st, 2022 at 3:18 pm
Beasley will help down the stretch…….the one question that needed to be asked is “How are your hammys?”
We have a decimated WR corps….I wouldn’t be a bit surprised to see him on the field Sunday for some plays….
And, I’d really like to see Thompkins activated instead of Geiger….
Also, surprised that Cyril Grayson isn’t on the PS…..knows the offense.
September 21st, 2022 at 3:19 pm
FYI, Pat’s played against him twice while in Dallas and obviously as a Bill, when it’s 3rd & 10 or under, he is a dagger in your heart.
September 21st, 2022 at 3:21 pm
Licht used to be a gem at drafting wrs and lbs. What happened? Street cred?
September 21st, 2022 at 3:21 pm
where is gage…we heard so much of him, and I saw one catch sunday.
September 21st, 2022 at 3:25 pm
Thank god they aren’t forcing players to get injected with fauci sauce to play anymore. This guy is going to be a good pickup
September 21st, 2022 at 3:42 pm
he’s not afraid to go over the middle, run slants,he can get open ..
September 21st, 2022 at 3:45 pm
It was mentioned in another post that Gage was open on most passing plays, Brady just didn’t have time or didn’t see him open.
I’m surprised on Grayson as well.
September 21st, 2022 at 3:51 pm
fauci sauce? Ah. Humor.
September 21st, 2022 at 3:53 pm
Spit a hot 16 or you don’t make the team LOL
September 21st, 2022 at 3:54 pm
fauci sauce? Ah. Humor
September 21st, 2022 at 3:57 pm
If memory serves, Beasley had a chance to join the Patriots in 2019. He probably understood that it was Brady’s last year with New England, and didn’t want to be part of a reset. Probably why he chose the Bills.
September 21st, 2022 at 4:09 pm
Watching his highlights the last 3 years, this guy is small, quick, and deceptively fast. He’s also tough and dependable.
He should be a good WR for us. Maybe Brady and Beasley will bring back the vaunted quick-slants that are unstoppable like Rice did?
Should be a good player for us.
September 21st, 2022 at 4:11 pm
And the counter-point is, Why was he still available in week 2???
September 21st, 2022 at 4:11 pm
Beasley had 82 catches last year and was only cut because of his cap hit. He is getting up there in age, but so long as he hasn’t lost a full step yet, he can still be useful. Also he’s done a limited amount of punt returning, although not that much. It’s an interesting signing.
Of course what the Bucs should have done instead was just sign Antonio Brown, since that’s who Brady actually wants.
September 21st, 2022 at 4:14 pm
Lol.. OBP must have been marked by the retired NFL players association as leaving the cash register open, these guys all have old hidden injuries from a lifetime of football and all it takes is contact to wake up those old injuries and their bodies saying WTF!
September 21st, 2022 at 4:15 pm
and Oh Scotty the Body days are numbered
September 21st, 2022 at 4:30 pm
He is like an Edelman clone for Brady to go as he can find the open holes in the D and especially over the middle. He will be active on Sunday for sure.
September 21st, 2022 at 4:45 pm
Back to the Bills. I’m afraid. Who the hell is going to compete with that operation? The only hope for the rest of the league is major injury, or they clinch home field in November and get rusty. Absolute wagon. You know a team is loaded when they cast away a clutch player like Beasley
September 21st, 2022 at 4:45 pm
I don’t know him much but from what I have heard him say, it seems he is far from humble. Everything he said could translate to “me, me, me”. He may not fit well in the locker room, but if he does so on the field he is fine, with me.
September 21st, 2022 at 4:49 pm
Can they activate him?
Activated two already.
September 21st, 2022 at 5:12 pm
“fauci sauce’ best reply of the day…lol
September 21st, 2022 at 5:15 pm
Hamstring injury coming soon!
September 21st, 2022 at 5:18 pm
Brady has to get rid of the ball so fast great pickup. Can’t believe a player thats caught 164 passes in the last two years would still be available at such a low cost.
September 21st, 2022 at 5:25 pm
You do have to wonder why he was still available at this point… but hopefully we just lucked out.
September 21st, 2022 at 5:30 pm
Beasley was getting blackballed cuz of being an anti-vaxxer…
Props to him for defending his position.
I think he’s a skinnier Wes Welker myself..
His quickness & route-running creates immediate space…
Could be a great pickup in a spread offense if we open it up.
Tom could operate quickly with this guy…
Also thinking no-huddle fast pace…
September 21st, 2022 at 5:34 pm
Do some research. Answer your own question. Had interest from several teams. Waited on the right opportunity.
September 21st, 2022 at 5:44 pm
I wonder what Brady’s new number will be?
September 21st, 2022 at 5:54 pm
I would say he is available because the strong arm and running quarterback Josh Allen doesn’t need him when he can sling it downfield or scramble for first downs.
The Bills have Diggs who is also good out of the slot and isn’t afraid of doing the dirty work that Beasley does.
Plus his age. Bucs have an offense that relies on short passing.
Without Godwin and Gronk there aren’t any Buc receivers that can get open in the middle of the field. Thought Gage was going to do that.

Zwak Says:
September 21st, 2022 at 5:15 pm
Hamstring injury coming soon!
Amen to that…( looks over at Richard Sherman ). These midseason signings/rush jobs rarely work out. Hopefully this one does. Feels like an “after market accessory” that backfires/falls apart.
September 21st, 2022 at 5:57 pm
So, Beasley’s contract on the practice squad is $19,900 per week.
Do we know what it is if he is elevated to 53 man squad?
September 21st, 2022 at 6:00 pm
Ed, me too. Not sure WTF is going on with Gage. So far, he looks like Sanu after Brady begged the Patriots to trade for him.
September 21st, 2022 at 6:06 pm
Available because he wanted to play for a contender. Had interest from several teams per the supposed insiders. If any of these older guys are smart they start looking for warm weather teams to prolong their careers. Cold weather is a B when u get older.
September 21st, 2022 at 6:07 pm
Let’s not forget that Beasley refused the covid vaccine. Probably a big reason he remained unsigned through the summer. I’m sure the bucs have protected themselves. Who knows, uncle Joe says the pandemic is over.
September 21st, 2022 at 6:15 pm
He was available because he was blackballed because he refused the vaccine. The dude can play.. just watch last year.
September 21st, 2022 at 6:21 pm
Both Gage and Rudolph appear to be disappointments.
And so does Hicks who is an injury waiting to happen.
He went undrafted out of College, but had pretty good combine times and stats.
He was like 4.4 in the 40 and benched 225 for 17 reps. Not too shabby when you only weigh 175 lbs!
September 21st, 2022 at 6:23 pm
Bills intel fellas–don’t forget that.
LOL PanthersSuck. TB13
Gage is a little concerning I agree…still plenty of time.
Edelman 3.0.
Suh.
September 21st, 2022 at 6:24 pm
“Light use to be good at drafting Wr’s”
Are really serious? Why on earth would you draft Wr’s when you we are loaded with them. We drafted where we needed help. Duh? We neede TE, DT, OG, RB, another CB. You wanted Licht to draft a WR? Lol!
September 21st, 2022 at 6:31 pm
Gage is still limited by his hamstring injury. I’ll wait to judge him when he’s closer to 100%.
September 21st, 2022 at 6:32 pm
Beasely asked out of Buffalo–it seems likely he didn’t like the team fining him repeatedly (over $100,000) for violating league rules for unvaccinated players (like staying out of the cafeteria). The team may have been caught in the middle.
September 21st, 2022 at 6:59 pm
Lamarcus Says
“Licht used to be a gem at drafting wrs and lbs. What happened? Street cred?”
He still is.
September 21st, 2022 at 7:43 pm
@Chris
There’s still a ton of football left, let’s not be too hasty pigeon holing these guys, Breshard Perriman was in D’Bears roster a year ago today or was it the Lions? I know he wasn’t a Buc week 2 of 2021
September 21st, 2022 at 7:46 pm
Beastly is exceptional finding holes in the zone. His speed is underrated. He is a football smart former HS qb who played receiver at SMU.
Good signing. From Buffalo via Dallas.
September 21st, 2022 at 7:51 pm
Can anyone spell Edleman.
September 21st, 2022 at 8:19 pm
Jules
September 21st, 2022 at 9:12 pm
I’ve always like Beasley, who has always been an Edelman/Welker. I hope he and Brady click.
September 21st, 2022 at 10:29 pm
Bowles cant wait to try beasley out on special teame.
September 21st, 2022 at 10:51 pm
This is one of the main reasons Brady was practicing today…..gotta get on the same page….all good.
September 21st, 2022 at 10:51 pm
I’m guessing placing two players on IR opened up the roster spot for Cole?
September 21st, 2022 at 11:35 pm
I am really hoping these other WR will be able to play down the stretch, this is Tom’s kinda guy in the middle of the field.
September 22nd, 2022 at 2:16 am
Few things most people are unaware on here but some have brought up.
Bills wanted Beasley to stay, they never ditched him. He left.
He did have atleast two offers, he wanted to wait for the right scenario.
He is or has been vocal on social media, primarily fighting for his and others rights to personal choice on vaccines. With this brought a ton of hate, in which hed reply and defend himself, which has been labelled as immature. No doubt this had teams shy away from either backlash from fans or not wanting to be rejected by Cole either.
Any negative or rumour on Cole Beasley being a locker room issue is fabrication.
His teammates love him. Especially the QBs. He is a third down beast.
This has the potential to be a steal of a deal. I’m cheering hard for the Brady Beasley connection.
September 22nd, 2022 at 4:59 am
I’m a little surprised Brady hasn’t reached out to Julian Edelman however, Beasly is a few years younger which probably does make more sense. Especially at the wide receiver position.
September 22nd, 2022 at 9:39 am
Edlemans knees are like a broken down 1973 Chevy brake pads. He’s a baller but he is done.
September 22nd, 2022 at 12:19 pm
Let him and gage Duke it out for the 4th receiver once everyone is healthy.
Competition sometimes is worth the investment even in a cap situation because this is a high priority due to tight end limitations
September 22nd, 2022 at 12:53 pm
Welcome to the free state of Florida Cole!!
September 22nd, 2022 at 2:08 pm
Yeah and had my friend gotten her “Fauchi sauce” she would still be here to go to the game with me this year. But unfortunately she didn’t because of the NC stigma around her town. Had to go to her funeral and wake. How bout a WHOLE BUNCH OF F! O! TO YOU AND THOSE WHO MAKE JOKES! She was one of the most incredible loving person I have been blessed to meet. And yeah we ALL GOT OUR OWN OPINIONS ON THAT THING THAT KILLS! And MINE for those who make jokes, is F! O!
September 22nd, 2022 at 4:40 pm
Oh good, all the local anti-vaxxers have a new folk hero.
