Aaron Rodgers’ Sad History In Tampa
September 21st, 2022If you study the history of whining Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, he’s lucky he calls one of the coldest cities in the NFL his home. That’s because Rodgers often struggles at warm-weather sites.
Dome stadiums, Rodgers is fine. But when he has to play under a brutal Florida sun with searing heat, he often melts.
In fact, Rodgers has a losing record playing in Tampa. That’s right. As many years as he has been in the league and for all the years of the Lost Decade and all the success he has had, Rodgers has usually barfed on the turf of The Licht House, which in the past he’s b!tched about.
Rodgers enters Sunday’s game with a 3-5 against the Bucs (1-3 in Tampa). His only win in Tampa came in 2014 when the Bucs finished 2-14 and won the Chase for Jameis. Even against lousy Lovie Smith’s wretched defense, Rodgers could only muster 20 points.
Rodgers spent a good chunk of that game hobbling around and later blamed the turf for his leg injury. Wah!
We all remember two years ago how Ndamukong Suh beat Rodgers to a pulp and Jamel Dean housed one of his passes. Mike Edwards also had an interception in a 38-10 woodshed beating by the Bucs.
Rodgers was sacked five times that day.
Probably Joe’s clearest memory of Rodgers losing to the Bucs in Tampa came in 2009. Leaky, sleepy Josh Freeman made his first career start, a day in which the Bucs wore creamsicles to honor Lee Roy Selmon who became the first member of the Ring of Honor.
Rodgers threw for two touchdowns and three picks in a 38-28 Bucs win.
One reason Joe remembers that game is that while in the press box, Joe took a frantic call from a friend who was a high school football coach in Baltimore. The guy was completely freaking out. He had the Packers in a survivor pool that week and if the Packers prevailed he was going to pocket something like $3,500. “What the (very naughty word) is going on down there!?”
In his four games in Tampa, Rodgers has thrown for five touchdowns and eight interceptions.
So now you know why Joe isn’t sweating Sunday’s game.
Welcome back to Tampa, Aaron!

It’s 0-0 and history is not a guaranteed predictor of future events. See Bucs at Saints last Sunday.

After our performances the first two weeks, we should be happy to be 2-0. As for those kind of stats Joe, we could never beat the Eagles or win in the cold and then…..
Let’s just look to get the O on track and have the D swarm. No need to be braggarts. Alot to clean up in our house.
September 21st, 2022 at 7:23 am
Blah, Blah, Blah, Saints have won every in season game against Bucs since 2018. How did that turn out in their house? This one is on the D cause 30 points ain’t happening. The loss of Evan’s was huge, now Hicks out, possibly Jones, Wells & Godwin? Roger’s ain’t no Winsten or Dak back up. GB D I not that bad.

Injuries piling up. Shades of last year, but at least not all one position group.
2 big games coming.
We all mostly said we’d be happy to come out 2-2 from the first 4 & would be ecstatic with 3-1. Let’s see if we can knock off GB with all the injuries.
Hope the D-Line’s push stays strong without Hicks.
Suh.

Gonna need Otton, and/or Kieft to step up in the passing game. Brate looks like a shell of himself. Perriman will prob be shadowed by jaire Alexander the whole day, so it’s finally time for Gage to actually perform!

Lets get Suh back just in time to rip on Rodgers LOL!

Rodgers is not the frightening aspect of this game to me. It’s not just his history against the Bucs but his depleted receiving corps.
What Rodgers and the Pack DO have is a dynamic duo at running back. Aaron Jones has been very effective this year and then they can bring in AJ Dillion and add 40lbs to their RB. They’re not thunder and lightning but they have been quite effective.
TB has an interesting challenge. NO gashed us frequently on the ground. GB may actually have a better running attack. Does TB try to get a little heavier and ditch the great pass defense? OR…is he still required to respect Rodgers.
Should be a good game.

How about new power rankings? Eagles over Tampa. Didn’t Eagles just sneak by Lions and gave up 35 points to Goff & co?
September 21st, 2022 at 8:14 am
Rodgers threw for 2 interceptions and 3 picks cool never there was a difference

This feels like a tempting of the football gods…this kind of hubris often leads to a painful, if not an inexplicable loss. Having said that…Rodgers has become extra weird with his new age arm tattoo and SkaterBoy hairpiece. It would have been nice to have Suh around as he gets extra fired up to shove Rodgers to the turf.

Always wanted Suh back and JPP over Tyrone, he’s done nothing.
September 21st, 2022 at 9:11 am
JPP did nothing last year and his shoulder injury is extremely likely to be reoccurring with or without surgery.
Not thinking JTS is doing a lot either but at 2.5 million for this season, very confident that he will exceed what JPP did last year.
September 21st, 2022 at 9:18 am
JTS isn’t showing up in the stat sheet yet but has been very disruptive. He gets in the backfield quickly on pass plays and has improved markedly against the run. I predict he gets his first sack Sunday against A Rod.

Long time fans know nothing is guaranteed with this team. Excited for the game but not as confident as the Joes are.
September 21st, 2022 at 9:37 am
Should be around 90 degrees Sunday, hotter on the field for sure!!! LFG!!!
September 21st, 2022 at 9:44 am
Winner T, this team has plays well against Green Bay! If the Bucs can slow down GBs running tandem and can get a lead the Bucs defense will take over!! LFG
September 21st, 2022 at 10:10 am
So Todgers has extra incentive to get that monkey off HIS back…
September 21st, 2022 at 10:37 am
Green Bay’s passing game didn’t look ready for prime time last weekend, it was the ground game and Chicago’s anemic offense that paved the way for the Packers.
Far from an easy win. The Bucs also have a compromised passing attack due to injury and lack of quality red zone targets beyond Evans.
September 21st, 2022 at 10:38 am
The D needs to bring it! Get to him early and often and they will get the turnovers. They need to because Packers pass defense has been stellar and the Bucs don’t have healthy lineman or receivers so…
I expect a lot of Lenny and Richard White. I think they will be able to run against Green Bay rather well. Did you see the holes that Defense was providing the last two weeks against their opponents?

Wondering how Beasley is looking on grass.
Like someone said, he was unemployed for a reason.
September 21st, 2022 at 11:53 am
And it started at only 2.5 spread. I guess Vegas didn’t get the memo
September 21st, 2022 at 12:32 pm
Glad I don’t gamble. I don’t know about this one. Rodgers has something to prove, and his offense is a lot healthier than ours. Plus, no telling how distracted Brady is by whatever is going down at home.
September 21st, 2022 at 1:45 pm
This will be a serious test for our run defense and screen game.
Packs also have a good defense, which will be a hard test for our depleted offense.
Could easily see this game going either way, especially since we’re missing our top 3 wide receivers and have 4 new-to-this-season starters on the offensive line.
If we win, it will be our defense again. LFG!

Rodgers, in 4 games in Tampa, here’s his passing line…
9/28/08 – 52% comp, 165 yards, 2 TDs, 3 INTs, 55.9 rat – LOSS
11/08/09 – 48% comp, 266 yards, 2 TDs, 3 INTs 57.6 rat – LOSS
12/21/14 – 78% comp, 318 yards, 1 TD, 0 INTs 108.1 rat – WIN
10/18/20 – 46% comp, 160 yards, 0 TDs, 2 INTs 35.4 rat – LOSS
If you look at Rodgers career overall, that run of games is incredibly bad.
Tampa is the only team where Rodgers has more INTs than he has TDs, and his rating of 74.4 vs the Bucs is easily the lowest of any team he has gone against.
