Julio Jones And His Chances Of Playing Against The Packers

September 20th, 2022

Status for Packers game.

It took a whole game for injury-prone Julio Jones to get injured. He dinged up a knee in the season-opener at Dallas.

Of course, he tried to make a go of it Sunday at New Orleans but it wasn’t meant to be.

So what about Sunday when the Bucs face the Packers at The Licht House?

Well, the good news is, Bucs coach Todd Bowles didn’t rule him out. Yet.

“We’ll see how he recovers,” Bowles said. “Again, we’ve got a long week ahead of us and I can’t make that decision without seeing him.”

Now would be the time for Julio to return. With Mike Evans suspended yesterday by Packers right guard Jon Runyan, Jr.’s dad, Jon Runyan, Sr., Julio is more than needed.

Without Evans and potentially without Julio, Breshad Perriman might have to step up as he often does when his number is called as a Buccaneer.

And it would be nice on Sunday if Russell Gage makes an appearance.

  1. BucU Says:

I know it’s early but Gage has got to get more involved. Early report card on Gage: D-.

  2. Alvafan Says:

That last sentence is the understatement of the year.

  3. lambeau Says:

Good point, Joe–even if subconcious, Runyon has a conflict of interest and should not be adjudicating Mike’s suspension. Basic fairness.

  4. BUCkleup Says:

Gage was open a lot Sunday. Brady getting comfortable with where he is on field. Look at the Perriman TD, no one within 10 yards of Gage. It will come together as long as we can put people out there.

  5. richbucsfan Says:

The NFL looks corrupt with this obvious conflict of interest.

  6. stpetebucfan Says:

I find it ironic that we are praying two ex Falcons will step up to save our bacon.

Can somebody give me a scouting report on the GB secondary? We may loathe the Saints and Lattimore but they have a GREAT back 7..fortunately so do the Bucs. Lattimore “rules” where the zebras let him clutch and grab FAR beyond the five yard rule takes smurf receivers like Scottie out of the game.

Scottie had his greatest play ever against the Pack he may get the ball deep again Sunday.

Whatever it’s not the OL that we should be worried about. SOMEBODY on this team needs to get at least a smidge of separation! Brady may be the GOAT but even the greatest need a LITTLE window to fit the ball. Our targets need and play creator/callers need to step up.

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    We need Julio……no news on Godwin…..perhaps he’ll be ready…..

  8. BigPoppaBuc Says:

Honestly I’d sit Julio if he’s not 100 percent. I see another week of ground and pound offense and tough defense. We can beat the Packers with the current formula. It’s the chiefs matchup where we’ll need all hands (WRs) on deck.

  9. alton green Says:

want to know who has an axe to grind and against who? Roger Go To Hell against Tom Brady. But come on Mike. That could cost us a game. Get your s&%$ together and stop acting like Philly fan

  10. SufferingSince76 Says:

    Richbucsfan, the NFL IS corrupt.

  11. Hodad Says:

Yes practice makes a difference. With Brady’s training camp vacation, and Gage missing camp with a hammy, the two are not on the same page. Watched the Bills, and Philly last night their offenses look so much more creative then ours. Lefty needs to inject some new school into our old school offense. Both teams mentioned did not just run up the gut on first down. Lefty needs to get more creative. Maybe he should put in some wildcat stuff for Blaine Gabbert to run. It couldn’t hurt on some of our 3rd, and 4th and ones. Besides, if he’s the future next year, let’s get him some snaps.

  12. CristalBall Says:

All of the above question marks and the position that Mike Evans has put the Bucs in is why they have signed Cole Beasley.

  13. CristalBall Says:

All the injuries plus Mike Evans acting stupidly (again) is precisely why they have signed Cole Beasley.

  14. CristalBall Says:

All of the above injuries plus Mike Evans getting himself suspended is precisely why the Bucs have signed Cole Beasley.

  15. Jerry Says:

    Bucs signed Cole Beasley

  16. Mr. Editor Says:

The decision to deepen the pool of wide receivers was prescient. We’ll need to see Russell Gage step up, but wasn’t he brought in to be more of a slot receiver? Based on what I see so far, I really hope that he is not Bert Emanuel 2.0.

With Jones possibly out, will the Bucs call up Devin Thompkins or Kaylon Geiger? Or, will the Bucs reach out to Cyril Grayson or Jerreth Sterns from the “unofficial” practice squad?

  17. Mr. Editor Says:

Bucs just signed Cole Beasley. I guess that answers my questions!

  18. Jerseybuc Says:

Julio better get his ass out there Sunday he’s def needed in this game. Gage n him , Lenny we should be good. Packers O scares no one with lizard Cobb

  19. AMI_Chris Says:

Brady’s description of football as a “demolition derby” is spot on. There is no other sport where it’s common that multiple season-ending injuries occur in a game. Players rarely get put in ambulances in the middle of games in basketball, baseball, hockey and soccer. It’s a tough game.

  20. Oddball Says:

    Beasley? Seriously.

  21. Biff Barker Says:

Gage appears to be a waste of time and money. Fragile like a bird. Not all Brady’s fault. Gage missed most of pre season too.

” secret weapon?” Well we are waiting!

  22. Buc4evr Says:

Agreed, conflict of interest and it needs to be made public. The optics are bad. Hope the Bucs management has the cojones to make a big deal of it in the media. I would expect ME to also argue it and put a response in writing for the media, just like the letter the NFL sent to the media about ME’s suspension.

  23. Buc50 Says:

Hard to like the signing of Beasley.

  24. Gofortheface30 Says:

Uh yaaa oddballlll Cole Beasley is an excellent wide receiver and is an elite route runner, great at getting separation. The Scotty millers of the world, the Tyler Johnson’s of the world are INCAPABLE of 80 catch seasons. Beasley can do that in his sleep. Additionally, can the Bucs have Gage run something other than a 5yard out. That would be grrrreat. All of our guys out and all, can they can get a better return on a 32 million dollar investment than 28 yards on 5 catches…

  25. Rob3810 Says:

Derrick Brooks is one of two former players on the appeal committee. Makes sense for Brooks to pull a Runyan and reverse the 1 game suspension to time served. Two wrongs do indeed make a right in this case!

  26. BucsNoles Says:

33 yr old, 5’8″ Cole Beasley???
    WTF

  27. A Bucs Fan Says:

None of the top five recievers have been healthy. Gage is still recovering from his hamstring pull which is why he has looked less dynamic.

The bucs offense is hurting. Hopefully as the season goes on they will heal up well and be able to play to their potential.

Defense is going to win the bucs game the first half of this season.

Unfortunately, this is nothing new outta the NFL. Bucs need to beat GB. Best way to get even. Now, who is Beasley?

  29. Leopold Stotch Says:

It’s absurd that Mike gets a suspension, cuz it was during a game, but Aaron Donald goes Scott free because, it was practice.

  30. Josh Says:

Look at Bradys best WRs over the years before you doubt Beasley. Edelman and amendola were both short slot receivers and Brady would hit them 15 times a game. Good move imo.

  31. kyle Says:

bucsnoles… its not like cooper cupp is on the free agent market. Doubt beasley will do anything, just a dpeth signing while we wait the injuries out.

  32. ItzOK Says:

I hate players that are always hurt. Julio seems like a pipe dream. He has been hurt for the last 4 years and never plays and when he has has been really ineffective. Why are we pinning hopes on him ever playing. Sit him so he can make two catches in the playoffs.

  33. Listnfrmafar Says:

Great move signing Beasely, won’t be available for Germany, he is a NO vax guy. This is exactly what Brady needs he is Welker/Edleman like, I just hope he is as durable. Might of liked Amandola instead.

  34. A Says:

If you are too hurt to play – why do we take them on road games? Get off your feet and recover. I’m not sure how flying helps an injury…

I like the signing…get a slot receiver that wins early in the route…nice security blanket and chain mover…

    Go Bucs!

  35. GABucsBall Says:

So far Gage is a waste of cap space, very disappointing, hoping it’s just the lack of camp and preseason reps, but he needs to show up this week.

Can somebody give me a scouting report on the GB secondary?

    Not much.
Jaire Alexander their best DB and had the two interceptions against Brady in the NFC championship game. He was injured almost all of last year and so who knows how that is translating to how he is this year, but PFF has him above Lattimore in their projection this year.
Eric Stokes is their other starting corner and a #1 pick last year. Too early to have a strong opinion on him. PFF has him 29th. (In Comparison, they had CD at 13, and Dean at 14).
Their number 3 corner is Rasgul Douglas. He never had a good year until last year. That was after he was signed off the Arizona practice squad. Can he keep it up. Who knows.

    Safeties are:
Darnell Savage and Adrian Amos. They were both starters and played 100% of the snaps in the NFC Championship game we won. Certainly, they have not been elite against the Bucs recently.

  37. Bilobi Says:

Maybe it’s time for the elder great players to get those as seen on tv knee sleeves that make you feel 20 years younger that way we can make to the super bowl this year and win it all lol

  38. captivajim Says:

TB should be looking up OBJ’s phone #

  39. sasquatch Says:

It appears that Gage’s injury absence in camp has hindered his development in this offense. It’s a little harsh to judge him because of the injury. It’s disappointing, and hopefully he and Brady can begin developing a rhythm over the next few weeks. It would also help if we could get our other receivers healthy.

  40. T REX Says:

Jones, Hicks, Gage, Rudolph are all busts so far on Licht.

    The best ability is availability.

    THANK GOD FOR TOM BRADY

  41. The Daily Coroner Says:

Yep. Julio lasted one game before resuming his old veteran pattern of injuries.

  42. Captain Dan Lawrence Says:

The NFL does a terrible job with Conflict of Interest situations! May I say “corrupt”?

  43. T REX Says:

Evans came off the sideline and pushed a guy to the ground…easy suspension.

    No conflict. None.

  44. Zach Says:

Aaron Donald still hasn’t been suspended for throwing a helmet at a player at bengals practice lol

  45. Crickett Baker Says:

I don’t get it. Maybe someone can explain it to me. Let me say that I rarely watch hockey. It is boring to me. What I have seen though defies my own knowledge. Their “turf” is ice-cold and hard like cement. Their shoes are equipped with blades. There are no soft humans on the sidelines to break their falls, just impenetrable hard plastic into which they are constantly thrown. Yet they usually jump back up and keep playing. They don’t even point to their blood. What is up with that?

  46. Rashad Marshall Says:

Love My Boys The Amazing Buccs

  47. BucU Says:

This year is an exact rerun of last year’s cluster injuries to position groups. The brittle Buccaneers are back folks!

  48. Suggiefresh Says:

Hodad, you posted “Watched the Bills, and Philly last night their offenses look so much more creative then ours. Lefty needs to inject some new school into our old school offense”
Those two teams have a very mobile quarterback they utilize in the option game, we don’t. Apples and Oranges.

    Good point Zach.

I agree with Joe…Russell Gage needs to become a big part of the Bucs offense.

  50. TB fan Says:

I knew Julio would get hurt he always does. He can never make it through a full season.
