Todd Bowles Will Make Jameis Winston Buckle
September 16th, 2022So Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com gives a weekly take on how various NFL games will shake down. Week 2 is no different.
While the slimy Saints have owned the Bucs in the regular season, Rosenthal has a hunch this dominance is about to end.
How might that happen Sunday, Rosenthal has a hunch. Todd Bowles will bring wild blitzes that will rattle America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.
Recent history between these teams should make the Saints the favorite. But I can’t shake the feeling this is not the same Saints defense, at least not yet. Dennis Allen’s unit was pushed around up front by the Falcons, and the Bucs have just the scheme to bait Jameis Winston into mistakes. Then again, it’s not the same Saints offense. Jarvis Landry and Michael Thomas proved they are back in Week 1 and will be a problem for Todd Bowles’ crew. It’s a toss-up. I’ve changed my mind all week and will probably change it again after this publishes, so try to stay safe out there.
Joe doesn’t have a great feel for how this game will play out. New Orleans has a better offense than Dallas and based on last week, the Cowboys have a better defense than the slimy Saints.
This game could come down to how many of the hurt Bucs receivers can make it on the field.
Yeah, it seems that close.

This game makes me nervous…
No one plays us as hard as the Saints. It’s crazy that we’re nicked up this early. Hopefully we’re able to suit enough of these guys up on Sunday; especially Leonard Fournette. We’re gonna need or running game for this one.
September 16th, 2022 at 6:49 am
Biggest worry for this game is all the CHEAP SHOTS the aints take on Bucs!
Williams took out Godwin last game, Bucs players need to ball out but protect from the cheap shots!
would love for Bucs to destroy the aints this time!
September 16th, 2022 at 7:29 am
Run it down their throat early and often!!
September 16th, 2022 at 7:32 am
Alleged Sexual assaulting, Uber driver molesting, NFL investigatiing, crab leg stealing, f.. her in her p… yelling, first pass pick six throwing, wearing out the defence, fan base dividing, 4 head coach losing, 91 interceptions throwing(current), w eating, slimy Saint. That was a long 5 years,.Thanks Joe. I’m sure I’m missing some things. Go Bucs!
September 16th, 2022 at 7:32 am
I want to see Kieft blow up some dudes! Chip Cams bi$$h a$$
September 16th, 2022 at 7:44 am
Jameis has never been in a position where he had to win the game before, he can’t be a game manager forever
September 16th, 2022 at 7:55 am
The difference maker will be the coaching. Who gets the teams best prepared? I’m putting my money on the Bucs.
September 16th, 2022 at 8:21 am
Our Defense is totally healthy…….it needs to dominate Sunday……
Our Offense is good enough……..Bucs win 23-17
September 16th, 2022 at 8:40 am
Jamel Dean should be following Michael Thomas all over the field on Sunday, go be his shadow for 60 minutes. I don’t expect us to stick to the Cover 3 variations we used against Dallas with NO having a much better variety of talent at WR than the Cowgurls. We’ll probably need to keep both safeties back to contain Olave & Landry from beating us deep because we know Winston has the arm to push the ball downfield. Should be exciting to see what our defensive staff does pre-snap to confuse Winston and I imagine a lot of it may involve White & David showing one thing and doing another, whether they’re being sent or showing it before dropping back into their zone assignments.
September 16th, 2022 at 8:43 am
Bucs 31-10. This game scares me, but I firmly believe TB12 has had enough losing to the saints.
September 16th, 2022 at 8:52 am
Here’s how it plays out Joe….
Bucs 28 Saints 9
September 16th, 2022 at 8:55 am
As said earlier, we have people hurt on offense, but D is 100%. (Hopefully Donnie is good to go
September 16th, 2022 at 9:10 am
Defense will have to lead the way until the offense gets fully healthy and on the same page.
September 16th, 2022 at 9:14 am
Limit the trick plays, contain the run as well as Tyson Hill and the Bucs can win.
I don’t think the Saints can handle our run game this year. Biggest worry is the WR’s being able to get separation in time for Brady to throw. Need a faster shorter passing game. I expect our defense to get to Winston early.
September 16th, 2022 at 9:15 am
I want some payback for Godwin
September 16th, 2022 at 9:16 am
I think that “Interception Machine” Jameis Winston sounds better and is more appropriate than “Bro Bowler”. Tom Brady chose not to play that year so Jameis was an alternate, and considering that Jameis has throw an interception to almost every defensive back in the league, my moniker seems more appropriate.
September 16th, 2022 at 9:18 am
Will Winston even finish this game? He’s already dinged up. We’re going to hit him, we’re going to pressure him. And Bowles already knows how to confuse him. I’m not a JW hater. I supported every year he was here. But I think he’s in for a rough one. I just hope the defense is also preparing for the backup. That’s the REAL worry.
September 16th, 2022 at 9:29 am
Jaymiss can get hot.
But he does run hot and cold as well all know
September 16th, 2022 at 9:34 am
Alvin Kamara is not practicing because he is injured (ribs). That means that the Bucs should expect a heavy dose of the running back. He’ll make a “miraculous” recovery. It’s a fact of life: the Aints always play games with the injury report.
September 16th, 2022 at 9:35 am
I’m with Fansince76 on this one. Win. Lose. If we survive the game without any NOLA defenders diving at knees, ankles, and feet again to injure players and we make it out without any major injuries I’ll call that a win.
Beating NOLA once or twice this season isn’t going to be the difference between making it to the Superbowl or not. Losing another key player for the season because the Saints push the boundaries on dirty football will.
September 16th, 2022 at 9:44 am
Great points about Nola dirty football. Von Miller has loads of cash and I wouldn’t be surprised if he offered Cam J a bounty on Lenny. I don’t trust any of them.
September 16th, 2022 at 9:49 am
Bring on The Gulf War
September 16th, 2022 at 9:50 am
I’m not nervous at all. I think we whoop that trick Sunday.Bucs are sick of losing to these slime balls and it shows up in this game.
September 16th, 2022 at 9:54 am
Ok please with all this nonsense about the Aints receiving corps. I heard someone say it rivals the Bucs. Let’s look at the stats: Landry-last year 570 yds, 57% catch percentage, Thomas has been injured since 2020 so don’t even know what he has. Olave’s a rookie so honestly an unknown commodity don’t care what he did in college. Right now Evans is better than Thomas, Gage is better than Landry. Last year Gage had 770 yds receiving and a 70% catch rate. Now if you add Jones into the mix you’re telling me you would take an unproven rookie over Julio. I foresee the Bucs D getting pressure up the middle against the Aints interior which is pretty weak. That’ll probably force Jamies to play off script which may become problematic. Also could see White with. a couple of sacks up the middle as well.
September 16th, 2022 at 9:59 am
Jameis looks ridiculous in that picture.
Again, choosing to replay one of his most embarrassing moments as a BUC. The moment he completely lost his teammates.
September 16th, 2022 at 10:04 am
Not liking the beat up offense, I think Bucs are going to need points. If Kamara is out that evens the playing field. Bucs hamstring injuries don’t go away in a week. I predict a low score and I hate to say it Hill comes up big. This has nothing to do with QB to QB, it’s ALL about the injuries Saints 17 Bucs 10.
September 16th, 2022 at 10:19 am
I like the bucs chances just as long our defense doesnt go into that 11 empty lawn chair set, like they did against the saints last year; and fold up like a cheap tent. You see that lawn chair D doesn’t tackle well, and certainly doesn’t cover well.
If bucs defense shows up and plays hard this one should be the donny brook off bourbon street.
September 16th, 2022 at 10:23 am
Joe sure doesn’t seem to have much faith in the Bucs. First Dallas and now New Orleans. I remember him playing the same tune last year…
September 16th, 2022 at 10:24 am
Evans, Gage and Jones are much better than journeyman Landry who had like a 59% catch rate last year, an unproven rookie and old man Thomas who hasn’t played since 2019. The Bucs interior pads rush will have a field against the two Saints’ guards and I wouldn’t be surprised if Ehite had another couple of sacks.
September 16th, 2022 at 10:25 am
^^ White had another couple of sacks
September 16th, 2022 at 10:26 am
BUCS 31
Saints 9
Score sound familiar?
September 16th, 2022 at 10:35 am
If what we saw Sunday night was real, and not just the Cowboys being so bad, and they reproduce it against the Aints, the Bucs will win.
Once again, it’s all about the defense.
Defense wins championships.
September 16th, 2022 at 11:10 am
42 – 9 Bucs I honestly don’t think they will score.
September 16th, 2022 at 11:17 am
The Falcons aren’t half the talent the Bucs are and they held the Saints to 10 points for 3 quarters… If the coaching was better and mistakes not made, Saints never would have come back to win…
The only thing of concern for me is if Winston’s back keeps him out of the game..
Dalton is more accurate, goes through his reads and can read defenses…
September 16th, 2022 at 12:04 pm
Tysom Hill scares me, JW not as much
September 16th, 2022 at 12:18 pm
Turnovers. This game will be about turnovers. Whoever turns the ball over more loses the game. My two cents.
September 16th, 2022 at 12:19 pm
lotsa pressure on jameis without giving up the farm, so much that he gets desperate to make a play and squirts the ball out in a fumble, slam him on his back thereby rattling his cage, play dirty if we are losing, play like their defensive backs play. if we cannot win we need to fck em up going forward
September 16th, 2022 at 12:39 pm
Is Trequan Smith playing? Dude always seems to score against us
September 16th, 2022 at 12:54 pm
Eating dubs and dix…my man Winny. Likes to dance in the locker room after a Win-ny too. I hope 45 throws him around like a bale of hay ( minus a knee injury…I don’t go that far ). 58 is free to strip sack him also. Fan boys of Winny can’t be true Buc fanatics as far as I’m concerned…seeing the stain he put on the skivvies of the Buc franchise during ( and after ) his reign of terror from 2015-2019.
September 16th, 2022 at 1:31 pm
Brady is in for lots of pressure. If Saints play like last week, Bucs will win. That is an unlikely scenario.
September 16th, 2022 at 1:55 pm
My Momma say’s: “One only has to look at Winston’s improved mechanics and the last two drives against Atlanta to see (he can see now after his eye surgery) that he was making some phenomenal throws that he didn’t make while being a Tampa Bay Buccaneer. If we don’t get enough pressure on him, watch out. And I’ve never been a Winston’s fan.”
September 16th, 2022 at 2:25 pm
Winston is a mixed bag on blitzing.
There were like 2 years in Tampa where he was literally the best ranked QB vs the blitz according to QBR, then at least one other year, I think under Arians in 2019, when he was like 20th. That could be scheme more than the player.
One thing about Winston, as we know, he’s very hard to bring down and has a good feel for when pressure is coming in the pocket. That combo is why he’d get in trouble with strip sacks, because he’d keep plays alive where other QBs would just have been sacked.
As for the Bucs, I think I’d just play the game close to the vest. Winston has had the message drilled into him that he can NEVER turn the ball over in NO. We saw that in the Falcons game, for the first three quarters, he was aiming the ball instead of throwing it, it wasn’t being aggressive at all, he was only making throws when guys were clearly open (for the most part). But, once they were down big, he went full Tampa mode and just became his natural gunslinging self since, if they didn’t score, the game was over regardless of if he turned it over or not. If the game is close, he’s going to be doing a Mike Glennon/Derek Carr impression and just trying not to lose the game – and that’s how you’ll beat them if the Bucs are to do so.
September 16th, 2022 at 8:26 pm
When JW was here in Tampa he had an issue with stepping up in the pocket. He would perceive pressure up the middle backpedal and throw off the heel of his back foot. Causing him to float a pass that was ripe for interception. There were also occasions where JW would back pedal so far out behind the pocket the left tackle would actually end up pushing the edge rusher into JW. Then JW would scramble instead of just stepping forward. But honestly I haven’t seen him do any of that with the Saints.
September 17th, 2022 at 9:17 am
Winston will throw 3 picks, one that will go for a pick 6 … 24-10 bucs … You can come back and congratulate me on the EXACT score later!! Lol
