Mike Evans Did Not Practice, Bucs Update Injuries
September 15th, 2022The second official Buccaneers injury report of the week was released late this afternoon.
“Lombardi Lenny” Fournette again was limited in practice with a hamstring issue. Receivers Russell Gage was upgraded to limited with his bad hammy and Chris Godwin (hamstring) missed practice entirely again.
Mike Evans is nursing a calf issue and was limited yesterday but sat out today. That doesn’t mean Evans got worse, but it’s certainly not a great sign.
Julio Jones missed his second consecutive practice with his new knee injury and Breshad Perriman (knee) was limited.
Donovan Smith, as expected, was out with his bad elbow.
Tom Brady was back full strength at practice today after his old-man-day off on Wednesday.
The slimy Saints, Sunday’s opponent, have a bunch of guys banged up, too. Alvin Kamara missed practice today with bad ribs and QB Jameis Winston was limited for the second consecutive practice with a bad back.

Julio banged his knee on the turf while catching that bomb from Brady. No actual joint injury there although I’m sure it’s bruised and painful.
September 15th, 2022 at 4:59 pm
Damn another embarrassment coming Sunday @ 1
September 15th, 2022 at 5:00 pm
What was it that JJ said that he loved so much about the Bucs coaching staff?
Was it, “I really appreciate and like the way they handle veteran players”.
Who was it that said, “Practice, we talking about Practice, not the game, not the game but practice”.
Yeah, only injury report I care about this season is the one on GAME DAY!!!
September 15th, 2022 at 5:03 pm
@Kentucky Buc
Yeah and he finished the game.
BUT, for the record, the one that hurt him was on the SECOND bomb that #88 splashed the crybaby on, which allowed Brady to roll right and bomb it to JJ to the left at the goal line.
JJ got his hands on it but the DB got his hands on JJ just enough to not allow him to get under it. That play was gonna be so amazing too!!!
September 15th, 2022 at 5:14 pm
Defense needs to step up. Bet everyone but Godwin plays.
September 15th, 2022 at 5:14 pm
They all play except Godwin (maybe) . Donnie probably plays too. He doesn’t miss games very often injured or not.
September 15th, 2022 at 5:15 pm
Seeings how today is the start of week two.
My bold prediction this week is that Jaylon Darden will be a difference maker in the return game.
I am putting the Saints punt total at more than 5. JD will have at least one return of 30 yards or more. IF FOR NOTHING ELSE, to shut up the crybabies in our fan base.
We don’t need any of you Cowgirls riding with us this year
September 15th, 2022 at 5:17 pm
I don’t think Godwin or Fournette will play.
Unsure about Donovan.
Everyone else will.
September 15th, 2022 at 5:18 pm
we’re getting back @NOLA this Sunday fellas. That’s just the way it is
September 15th, 2022 at 5:24 pm
@Buc4evr
100% agree. CG only plays if his Hammy issue during the game was really a rope a dope move.
When you look at the catch he made. Chances are it would have been a no catch if it got reviewed. However, Dallas saw him limping off and the Bucs ran a quick play. At that point the game was OVER.
So IF Chris was just limping off as a means to distract from the fact the ball hit the ground. Why not play it off until game time?
That is the only scenario in which I see CG playing this week.
That said, I am SUPER OK with Lenny and CG sitting out this game. Even if they could go 100%
September 15th, 2022 at 5:27 pm
I think everyone plays except Godwin.
For those of you panicking… Have you never seen injury reports during the week in the NFL before?
September 15th, 2022 at 5:32 pm
Jesus Patrick. A little faith, bro.
September 15th, 2022 at 5:41 pm
Entire defense seems healthy….
Sometimes I wonder if guys just don’t want to practice….especially if they don’t think they need it…..(just wondering)
September 15th, 2022 at 5:47 pm
^^ Tbbf,,
I really don’t think it’s that. I just think we are looking out for our guys.
I ALSO believe this. Todd Bowles would love nothing more than for our hated rival Saints to think we are coming in there just beaten to hell.
September 15th, 2022 at 6:07 pm
10% CONCERNED
Mike, Julio, and 4Net are vets. Getting these guys to Sunday healthy and rested is more important than practice. I might advocate for doing walkthroughs, light practice, and resting them all week.
September 15th, 2022 at 6:27 pm
From what I see, Saints are pretty beat up as well! Should be an interesting game!! LFG!!
September 15th, 2022 at 6:31 pm
I guess the silver lining here would be our ‘deep’ WR group getting valuable reps early in the season with Brady rather than during playoff time.
Thinking R. White’s got a good opportunity as well.
September 15th, 2022 at 6:49 pm
I still think it is bizarre that we have multiple hamstring issues with WRs & very few with DBs (Zion)
September 15th, 2022 at 6:55 pm
@Caleb lee
Good to see you here brother. Not sure I have ever seen you here before! How’s the babies and permaculture? Just spit balling. -Joe B.
You nailed the bottom line here.
Anything you say I will most likely agree with regardless of what I think. LOL
September 15th, 2022 at 6:58 pm
Its time to bring some wideouts from the practice squad.
September 15th, 2022 at 7:03 pm
Regardless of who cannot go on Sunday, I have faith in our coaches and our depth players to step up and be competitive. Whether we win or lose, if we are competitive, that’s all I can ask as a fan.
I really don’t think it’ll be the Bucs getting destroyed by the Saints, this game. We might lose, but now with Bowles, our team has a much more physical demeanor.
I like our chances. GO BUCS!!!
September 15th, 2022 at 7:10 pm
The Bucs should probably look into another strength coach. How is it that the majority of these players have hammy issues, every year! Do any other teams go through this?
September 15th, 2022 at 7:13 pm
Did Godwin suffer a knee injury or a hamstring injury?
September 15th, 2022 at 8:39 pm
Outside of the elbow, I question the practice ritual. Something is up with all the hamstring issues Bucs historically have.
September 15th, 2022 at 8:42 pm
So, our receivers are Darden and Miller. That is scary.
Not even a spare one for the slot.
September 15th, 2022 at 8:51 pm
Jesus, what the hell with all the injuries!!! This is one of the younger rosters in the league. Bee makes a good point. I would hate to think this is because of Alex Guerrero and his pliability crap. Belichick banned him from the facility because he was telling guys they didn’t need tried and true strength and conditioning regimen. I’m not sure how involved he is with the bucs.
September 15th, 2022 at 8:51 pm
Everyone (mostly) was surprised that our O-Line played as well as it did against the Cowboys. The success of our run game wasn’t predicted by many, if any. The reason for this is because something nobody really grasps or talks about: Sure, we have 3 new starting linemen, and we were all freaking out about how green and unproven they were (except Mason). These new guys are playing their absolute best, maybe inspired ball. They had something to prove, and they proved their worth in the first game.
Don’t underestimate the hunger of a young, new player. I’d wager this hunger will carry over to the Saints game. They have The Fire.
This is why I believe this game will be competitive, and probably close.
September 15th, 2022 at 8:52 pm
They need every one of these guys functional if they want to beat the Saints.
September 15th, 2022 at 9:01 pm
LOL, Mahhomeboy doing UNSUSTAIBABLE things again. WOW, that was brilliant.
Can’t wait to play the Chiefs again. TODD will OWN Mahomie again!!!
September 15th, 2022 at 9:02 pm
@D-Rok
I predicted that our Run Game would dominate, but what do I know? Im just CrackWise!!!
September 15th, 2022 at 9:04 pm
@D-Rok
Don’t project your panic on others. AND DONT TRY TO STEAL MY THUNDER!!!
Check Your Sheet Bro!!!
September 15th, 2022 at 9:06 pm
Granted, I might have been the only one saying we would dominate in the run game.
A lot of the had to do with Luke and KO being BEAST!!!
Again, CHECK YOUR SHEET
September 15th, 2022 at 9:09 pm
@Crack,
Good job on projecting our run game success. And, I’m clueless as to how I stole your thunder in any way – I’m just being a fan supporting my team and giving insight as I see it. I have no panic at all, and I’m sorry if my posts projected any panic. If anything, I’m more optimistic than some fans about this game on Sunday. I think we have a 50/50 chance to win, with the obvious turnovers being the ultimate deciding factor.
My gut feeling? The Bucs win this game, and I really don’t care about stats or score. Gimme a W, baby.
September 15th, 2022 at 9:11 pm
The Bucs are due, and I think they’ll likely split with the Saints this year – so the question is do the Bucs win this or the home game? Even Dirk would generally split with the Saints, so no reason this needs to keep going on and on.
September 15th, 2022 at 9:18 pm
Rod,
Right? The Bucs gotta be up for a win about now. I also agree with a split this year. My gut feeling? Bucs make a statement and beat the Aints in their own hood. The odds say a win is just as likely as a loss at this point, statistically of course, with the (again) obvious caveat of turnovers. We will likely win this game if we have less TO’s.
September 15th, 2022 at 9:20 pm
@D-Rok
Ok fair enough, you’re not trying to steal my thunder.
Let me say it again as a reminder. The OL will be fine. These guys are run blocking Bad Arses.
The first 4 games will be to establish them as a Smash Mouth unit.
In addition, just watch #41 and #88. They are SUPER SPECIAL.
ME will still get his. I am thinking 400-500 yards and 4-5 TDs in the first 4 games.
September 15th, 2022 at 9:23 pm
THE T.O.P. will once again be KEY. Gotta keep that D fresh!!!
Something JW could never do or win at.
September 15th, 2022 at 9:24 pm
D-Rok, no better way to break in a new offensive line than to play to strength. Mason and Goedeke are both better run vs. pass blockers. I was extremely encouraged and even saw some pulling by the guards!! A huge problem last year was the unimaginative and predictable run game. In my opinion the cowboys gameplan had Todd Bowles written all over it. I really hope they run the Saints ragged, and for that matter the entire NFC.
September 15th, 2022 at 9:30 pm
Crack,
Thanks for the kind words, buddy. I really can’t argue anything you predicted. All are certainly possible and realistic. As for the O-Line, you are certainly possibly correct, especially the first 4-6 games. Yo, I was watching Kief and Otton. They did a splendid job blocking. With time, Otton will get more passing targets. Kief might get a few, but doubtful.
ME’s production in first 4 games? Hmmm, tough one, because I think you assume similar team performance this year vs. year’s past. Game I: power run game, a few good passes, and ME was the #1….but it’s not like the Bucs featured him against the Boys. My point is ME’s targets and production will vary in these early games while the Bucs figure out their team identity. ME will get his 1K yards this year, though…and I’m confident in THAT projection.
Good, salient thoughts bro.
September 15th, 2022 at 9:36 pm
Redeemer,
It was like a perfect storm. There was SO much negativity going into this game about the O-Line – SO MANY posters here were screaming to sign someone. And the coaches said, “Naw homey – we got this.” And they knew what they were talking about, and the line was pretty awesome, if I do declare. I’ve rewatched the game like 3 times, and except for the Lenny chip-block on Parsnons, I was glued to the pullers, and dang, if they didn’t dominate.
September 15th, 2022 at 9:39 pm
@D-Rok
Reason I say ME will get his early this year is simple.
1. Run sets up the Pass and Brady will look to ME in Man to Man
2. ME has be starting the last couple years slow with TB
3. ME and TB have been together for 3 years now. TB said it takes that long to really get on the same page with a WR.
SO, my reasoning for ME going off is 100% predicated on the RUN GAME going off.
After week 4. Katty bar the door. If we are 4-0…. We might not lose a game. <– This is also something I predicted PRIOR to Toms vacation.
Either way, good convo. I appreciate your takes as always!!!
September 15th, 2022 at 9:51 pm
Julio Jones getting injured shouldn’t be a surprise; the surprise is that he looked good before the injury. On older players you roll the dice. Sometimes the player was simply unlucky and had a few injuries. In Julio’s case, he’s on the wrong side of 30 and I don’t see those injuries as resulting from a series of unfortunate events. His body is breaking down, the only questions are whether he’ll make it to the playoffs, and at that point, will his body allow him to be effective.
Gage on the other hand is very disappointing and surprising. He was young, relatively expensive, and was supposed to be our band-aid until Godwin’s return. It seems like Gage barely practiced before be pulled up lame. I know it’s early in the season, but I’m getting the vibe this is something that will compromise him all season long.
September 15th, 2022 at 9:52 pm
Crack,
Good stuff, man, well-thought and reasoned. You are like DR without excessive stats, LOL.
I’m convinced ME will be the leading receiver for the Bucs this year, barring injury of course. Julio might surprise some, and watch out for the sleeping dawg in Gage – he’s good.
I’m supremely optimistic about the Bucs this year. We’ll have our ups-n-downs to be sure, but it’s a great time to root for this team. Prolly get to the Superbowl, methinks.
September 15th, 2022 at 9:55 pm
Man, Passing, I say don’t give up on Gage this year. I admit I expected more production and splash from him, but it hasn’t happened yet. I suspect a nagging injury right now…and if/when he recovers, he’ll take off. At least I hope.
September 15th, 2022 at 10:02 pm
Some of you on here show why the Buccaneers rank in the bottom five when it comes to fans.
It’s been ONE week! They have some new players & some young players.
THEY ARE 1-0
Yet some of you are acting like they suck and some guys are busts?? WTF.
During the Super Bowl run, they were 7–5. Leonard Fernette hardly did anything up to that point. The defense was very inconsistent.
The point is, relax. It is a long season
September 15th, 2022 at 10:07 pm
Welp, off topic, but previous Buc Justin Watson got a great TD just now for KC. That Mahomes is a beast.
September 15th, 2022 at 10:07 pm
Relax David and talk football, not fans.
September 15th, 2022 at 10:07 pm
Justin Watson….nice TD catch for Chiefs tonight……
September 15th, 2022 at 10:08 pm
That worthless turd J Watson actually catches a pass for once?
Good for him, I hope it makes the Chiefs think he’s a good player, then Mahomes can throw like 10 INTs try to get the ball to him and he can drop another 10 TDs before they realize he’s a garbage player.
September 15th, 2022 at 10:15 pm
Dudes, you wanna talk about ME’s value to this team? The only TD scored in that whole game was to ME. It was a perfect throw, and a perfect catch. Not even Deion Sanders could have defended that fade. That catch totally iced the game. The point is? Brady and ME have a special connection, and when the game is on the line, look to Evans. He’s not Gronk but Brady loves him.
September 15th, 2022 at 10:16 pm
D-Rok, I sure hope I’m wrong. I know he was a tad pricey, but the Bucs needed a slot and he seemed to be the best option left on the free agent market. It seemed like the moment he donned a Buc’s jersey, he got injured. Hammys take time to heal, and judging by his limitations during the preseason, it seemingly never healed. That’s why my expectations have been lowered, playing won’t give him a chance to fully heal.
September 15th, 2022 at 10:17 pm
Darden as a difference maker in the return game? If he fair catches them and then actually catches them it saves the team 30 hidden yards at least.
Now he could fumble and enable a Saints TD or two. That’s certainly game changing.
September 15th, 2022 at 10:17 pm
Love Evans, he’s the one remaining elite TD threat on the team. He gets injured every season, but he plays through it just about every time.
September 15th, 2022 at 10:28 pm
KC should have gone for it.
September 15th, 2022 at 10:53 pm
For all the hype surrounding Gage, he was largely invisible. Not so sure he isn’t in the Brady doghouse for some reason. Maybe it had something to do with the stupid decision to play Godwin. Anyway, he wasn’t part of the gameplan. If they don’t get him going, expect a heavy running attack for the foreseeable. Maybe like seemingly everyone, his hamstring hurts.
September 15th, 2022 at 11:06 pm
Passingthru
That’s exactly what I was telling people, relax, it’s a long season. I try to come on the site and talk football but it gets rather annoying because these are some of the most negative pessimistic fans I’ve ever seen.
We are literally in the midst of the greatest 3-4 year run in Buc history. The greatest offense they’ve ever had.
And people act like Todd Bowles, BA, & BL are trash. Sometimes it’s amusing sometimes it’s just really super annoying to listen to such ignorance
September 15th, 2022 at 11:08 pm
Redeemer – maybe you didn’t see much from Gage because he’s injured and it’s game 1 in a new offense for him.
Wow, talk about your overreacting drama queens.
September 15th, 2022 at 11:34 pm
Rod, not overreacting but the fluff on this site was talking about Gage like the second coming of Julian Edelman. Does your hamstring hurt too rod?
September 15th, 2022 at 11:39 pm
Redeemer – Again, I’ll point to you the fact it’s week 1. Any hot takes after week is, is just drama queen talk. It would be like saying Devin White is going to have the best season ever for a LB in the history of the NFL and is on pace for 34 sacks. It’s week 1.
September 15th, 2022 at 11:58 pm
I never liked that we let go of Justin Watson. If that guy helps the Chiefs when it matters I’ll be sick.
September 16th, 2022 at 1:20 am
Bee Says:
“The Bucs should probably look into another strength coach. How is it that the majority of these players have hammy issues, every year! Do any other teams go through this?”
Yes.
Also, hammies are the usual culprit that teams use to rest they players as well. Instead of just saying it’s a day off, they say hammy. That way the players still attend meetings.
September 16th, 2022 at 7:50 am
The Saints live on trick plays
I hope we can blow 1 or 2 of them up
It would be epic to blow them out after they try that high school BS and lose.
If we sack JW 2 -3 times he will quit.
I expect to see Hill all over the field.
September 16th, 2022 at 10:18 am
Who is going to catch the football at this point?
