“It Kind Of Slows Down Their Pass Rush”
September 15th, 2022Here comes the New Orleans pass rush led by Tristan Wirfs’ kryptonite, Pro Bowl edge rusher Cameron Jordan.
Wirfs has said many times that Jordan gets at times because Jordan is that very rare rusher that has it all, and that includes playing explosively at 290 pounds.
A key to stopping Jordan? Wirfs hinted at it in the locker room yesterday: run the ball.
“Lenny [Fournette] carries the rock like a frick’n, like a horse. So, you know, that’s what we want to do,” Wirfs said. “All it does is help us. It kind of slows down their pass rush, and that’s what [the Saints] are good at. The more we can hit the ground running, it’ll be better for everybody.”
Joe’s all for anything that wins, and considering the Saints allowed more than 200 yards rushing to the Falcons on Sunday, it’s obvious the Bucs are going to test that run game in hurry after the bruising debut of the new-look offensive line.
Wirfs added that the Cowboys kind of quit on tackling Fournette late in Sunday’ night’s game. He said he heard a good one-liner about the Dallas run defense. “”They were acting like they were on fire; they were stop, droppin’ and rollin’ in front of [Fournette].”

Nothing at all wrong with running…..if it works…….I prefer short passes to TEs & backs…….teams do that to us all the time…..
Looks like we’ll activate Vaughn….& probably Miller……sit Godwin & perhaps Perriman.
Gio got no action vs the Cowboys…..expecting some from him this week.

With all this said above and with the success running last week, run some play-action and a couple screen plays in the flat. That’ll slow down the pass rush too.

You know what else will slow it down? The tape of Pancake Lenny turning Micah Pussons into a squealing little girl.

Patients fellow die hards. We will have 3 more games of this style of play. We are establishing a team identity as a Smash Mouth team.
But don’t fret you fantasy players. We will still take our shots. Like I have said and Chris Collinsworth reiterated during the game. In my best Curmit the frog/Collinsworth voice from Sunday night. “They are running to set up the pass, as soon as Brady see’s one on one with Mike Evens. He (Brady) is literally licking his chops”.
Moral of the story. #41 and #88 will take care of breakfast Sunday. And everyone else will feast!!!
Anyone know what’s for breakfast?

JaMiss sausage?

I really think the punter and keif can make a huge positive difference for this team and how it can choose to play and even rotate players .

Cajun crab legs!

Hopefully Lenny gets that ham hock healed up.
September 15th, 2022 at 4:57 pm
Sounds like a plan
Except Lenny probably wont get a lot of action and our running game will probably be Vaughn and Rookie Rashaad.
Maybe some Ko Keif as a blocking FB
IF Winston is not playing well – we could see at least 3-4 runs/trick plays out of Hill
Bucs need to Buckle up for this one

My dreamworld fantasy is for this team to punch the Saints square in the mouth…and wake up to find the dream was true.

@Goatfarmer
BARF… LMAO
@Bucthis
Sounds good actually, just not for breakfast.
I was thinking PANCAKES.

The hero of this game may very well be Ko Kieft. Just saying.

Lenny is going to play in New Orleans. They dont have to commit to full smash mouth football. They just need less finesse. They were much more balanced during that playoff run (where Lenny went beast mode), and had to be such a high scoring finesse team to account for the poor defensive play, that they fell in love with it and forgot how to establish the run. You gotta make it an ugly game for the Saints. Give them the chance to choke it out like they do in the playoffs. I dont think they are as special in the secondary this season, and in particular, I dont think Honeybadger supports against the run too well. Run it down their throats until they stack the box. Let their QB make the mistakes and capitalize on it.

Agreed. Ko will be chipping on Jordan. Vaughn needs to be activated as a pure RB to help pound the rock with Lenny. Defense needs to take Jameis out of his rhythm and put a spy on Hill. I expect a lot of trick plays by the Saints. Need to contain Hill – no open field runs.

I would love to see them come out and just pound that defensive line into submission and use play action with it.
In the past they’ve tried a lot of quick passes but that does not work with the Saints because they play tight press coverage. The medium pass game works better

The one thing that a running game does that a passing game doesn’t necessarily do is to demoralize a defense. Throw a 60 yard TD, the defense can do an awful lot of rationalizing. Pound the ball down their throat and the look in the defense eyes is unmistakable.

I hope LF can go!! If not, the Bucs will need production from the other RBs!!

Nowhere else to say it so I will see it here, I’m watching the Thursday night game on Amazon and… Streaming football sucks. I absolutely despise it. You can’t flip to another channel very easily during a commercial and 3 times already it went to a black screen to re-buffer or some BS like that.
The games should be on cable/networks and a streaming option should be in addition
September 15th, 2022 at 11:15 pm
It is not optimal, that’s for sure.
September 16th, 2022 at 12:21 am
Streaming is all some of us have…for every gsme.

Impressed with the Tampa Bay D. Remember last year we got so banged up in the beginning of the season especially with D backs.
We can win the low scoring games until TB12 and all the offensive weapons kick in. It’s a marathon not a sprint. Compared to the issues I saw in week one with Rams and Green Bay, Bucs are good.

Saints 31 – Bucs 17
