Checking In On Former Bucs
September 15th, 2022Joe’s always interested in what’s going on with former Buccaneers.
Super Bowl running back Ronald Jones was inactive for the Chiefs on Sunday. Jones was beaten out by rookie sensation Isiah Pacheco, the Kansas City’s rookie seventh-round pick. Pacheco was their leading rusher Sunday with 12 carries for 62 yards.
Sunday also featured the return of Justin Evans, the Bucs’ 2017 second-round pick. His long road back from an Achilles injury has ended with the starting nickel cornerback position for the Slimy Saints. Evans last played in 2018. Hell of a story.
Tight end O.J. Howard caught two touchdown passes for the Texans on opening day, while Texans receiver Tyler Johnson was inactive.
Bengals guard Alex Cappa, a Bucs third-round pick in 2018, allowed three QB pressures with his new team, per the PFF Tribe. Bengals QB Joe Burrow was sacked seven times.
Safety Jordan Whitehead suffered what appears to be a significant ankle injury in the Jets’ blowout loss to the Ravens.

Wow! Did not know that about Evans. Good for him, albeit it is with the slimy saints. Wish that guy well.
September 15th, 2022 at 1:24 pm
Great news on Evans. He was a very good player when he was well.
September 15th, 2022 at 1:42 pm
Rojo is an enigma man. So much talent, but something is just missing with this dude. I’m happy for Evans, but I hope he sucks on Sunday.

awesome news on deshawn jackson

Nice to see OJ catch as many touchdowns in his first game with the Texans then he did his whole time with the Bucs.
And good comeback story for Justin Evans. I wish him well but hope he has a bad game against us this Sunday.
September 15th, 2022 at 1:58 pm
ok
September 15th, 2022 at 2:02 pm
I will root for any ex Buc that went to any team except the Stupid Slimy Saints! I will obviously not wish any injury on any one, but I hope Americas QB and Evans stink it up Sunday!!
September 15th, 2022 at 2:09 pm
Evans 1st pick came against tb12
September 15th, 2022 at 2:11 pm
I’ll always root for our draft picks to do well…..except against us….
September 15th, 2022 at 2:16 pm
Cappa allowed 3 QB pressures?
The Bengles pass blocking was tragically horrendous in 2022. 2023 is off to a worse start. We know Cappa is solid. Their problem is coaching.
September 15th, 2022 at 2:19 pm
You missed Justin Watson. I don’t know if he played, but he had 0 stats in week 1.
September 15th, 2022 at 2:20 pm
I usually don’t care about players after they are no longer with the team but seeing Justin Evans still playing is pretty cool because it seemed like he was on his way to becoming a star. His injury was unfortunate but nothing he could control. OJ Howard might be in the same boat but Lovie will make sure he doesn’t score anymore, at least before halftime.
September 15th, 2022 at 2:22 pm
I saw Cappa give up a quick sack in tha game?
September 15th, 2022 at 2:42 pm
@Bucszilla – 100% on both points
September 15th, 2022 at 2:53 pm
Thanks for the update, Joe!
September 15th, 2022 at 3:10 pm
Joe in offseason when there is nothing to write about how about some info. On old or retired players to fill the gap. WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
September 15th, 2022 at 3:29 pm
Whitehead=injury prone, too bad because I love his attitude & style of play. Smart pass from Licht.
September 15th, 2022 at 4:00 pm
No Bengals problem is Joe holds the ball too long.
September 15th, 2022 at 4:03 pm
It is always interesting to see former Bucs. It lets us see if the team did the right thing by letting the player leave. Nice write up!
September 15th, 2022 at 4:09 pm
Why wouldn’t the Bucs be first in line to bring back Justin Evans if he was healthy? I never understand why teams will let good players walk just because they were hurt and out for a while.
September 15th, 2022 at 4:22 pm
Rojo s problems are mental and you can’t fix St___d.
September 15th, 2022 at 5:00 pm
Rod Munch. It could be Bowles didnt really want Evans. He defientally a specific skillset hes looking for and wants versitile players, its why I think we let Whiteheaf walk. Not sure that Evans fits what Todd the Godd wants.
Cant argue with the results. Honey Hair guy in AZ, Jamal Adams in NYJ now Winfield here in Tampa Bay.
September 15th, 2022 at 5:27 pm
Joe – this post is VERY interesting. May I suggest that this be a regular midweek post. Really cool stuff !!
September 15th, 2022 at 5:35 pm
Well… Cappa was the weakest link on our O line, but most of it falls on the Cincy line and coaching.
Good for Evans.
Horrible news for Whitehead although it’s not entirely surprising. The way he throws his body around he just seemed like he’s going to be injured a lot.
Suprising from OJ
Not surprising about RoJo. He can run but he can’t block, catch, or run a route
September 15th, 2022 at 7:28 pm
Tyler Johnson is a beast; how can he not make the opening day roster for TWO Teams in one season?
September 15th, 2022 at 8:19 pm
I remember Justin Evans as having good ball skills and good speed but
he sometimes took bad angles and his tackling was always a little suspect. We should test him out by running a lot his way, with maybe a screen throwing in now and then as well.
September 15th, 2022 at 9:21 pm
Rojo just never gets that real chance!! Such a pure runner to never get the ball!!
September 15th, 2022 at 11:25 pm
Justin Watson is playing hero ball in kansas City–he scored a tuddy
September 16th, 2022 at 12:39 am
Sorry Jack, he’s had EVERY possible opportunity… He’s ALREADY, in the “dog house.” He was totally “unavailable” last Sunday… “Coaches Decision” -per Draft Kings.
September 16th, 2022 at 6:25 am
Great news on Evans. Admire that guy’s determination to come back.
September 16th, 2022 at 10:22 am
@FrontFour,
The determination is that money!!! Let’s not sugar coat it.
