Chris Godwin Injury Update
September 12th, 2022Joe thought nearly barfed when Chris Godwin was limping on the sidelines last night.
Joe feared Godwin had blown out his knee. Again. And that would have meant the end of Godwin’s season.
Alas, there was “good” news. Godwin’s injury is a hamstring and not his knee, and the hamstring is better than initially feared, Bucs coach Todd Bowles said today.
Now the bad news: Godwin will miss time. It’s unknown how much.
Still it could have been so much worse. (Whew.)

maybe a bit premature to put him out there but whats done is done.. on to NOLA
September 12th, 2022 at 3:36 pm
Bowles sooner than later sounds like what he has been saying about Jensen.
2 weeks or 15 weeks.
Hope it is 2.
September 12th, 2022 at 3:38 pm
Sit that mofo on the bench until he is fully healed up. We are going to need him for the playoffs.
September 12th, 2022 at 3:39 pm
Did Todd Bowles “feast” on a hamstring? Gross.
September 12th, 2022 at 3:39 pm
Let the guy heal up and keep rehabbing the knee… There’s a chance he’s overworked in the rehab and that led to the hammy injury.
September 12th, 2022 at 3:39 pm
Not taking anything away from Godwin, but JJ and Gage were solid yesterday. Bucs are fine at WR. D Smith needs to get healthy.
September 12th, 2022 at 3:40 pm
What Mike just said!
September 12th, 2022 at 3:42 pm
Godwin looked good
Unfortunately many times a player will have a hamstring after returning from ACL. I don’t know why that happens
Let’s hope Chris can make it back in a few weeks
September 12th, 2022 at 3:43 pm
Doesn’t need to face the Saints. You never know if they will be gunning for him again. I say see you in October, Chris. Rest and heal.
September 12th, 2022 at 3:43 pm
What I read is his knee is 100% sound and he had an overstretched hammy. It was an obvious injury the way his leg locked out when he bent over to make that catch. It’s a similar kind of hamstring pull to what Lenny had last year against the Saints.
Hopefully he’ll be back for the Chiefs game.
September 12th, 2022 at 3:45 pm
The whole injuries are part of the game excuse is not applicable here. There was no good reason to play Godwin. He should have been placed on IR, to help protect against this exact injury. The knee isn’t the issue, it’s the surrounding muscles and tendons. They invested a ton of money into the player. I’d hate to think it’s the reason he played. In fact, it’s the exact reason they should not have played him.
September 12th, 2022 at 3:47 pm
Glad to hear it was “only” a hammy. When it first happened, I was like, “O crap, not the ACL knee!” Rest up and get back when healthy, Sir Godwin.
I give CG mad props for even playing at all yesterday. Shows his mental fortitude, love for the game, and love for his team-mates. Nobody would have said a thing if he wasn’t able to go for a few more weeks.
Warrior!
September 12th, 2022 at 3:48 pm
glad to see him not on the saints field, they target specific players
September 12th, 2022 at 3:54 pm
From what I saw of Julio Jones & Russell Gage, we will be just fine at WR…
And, for some who wondered about Gage……two targets, two catches……I’m quite sure he’ll get more…..Scotty will probably be activated to replace Godwin.
September 12th, 2022 at 3:59 pm
I’m really glad all the experts on the blog know more than the professionals and Godwin himself. Too bad the Bucs don’t listen to most of you.
September 12th, 2022 at 4:05 pm
I’m glad he isn’t playing this week. And when he does come back his confidence will he high.
September 12th, 2022 at 4:07 pm
Anything pre-Thanksgiving is gravy.
mmmmm gravy.
Suh.
September 12th, 2022 at 4:14 pm
Yep…^this
September 12th, 2022 at 4:16 pm
Howard is glad CG14 isn’t playing the despicable saints.
Those bounty hunters would have no problem diving at his knees again
September 12th, 2022 at 4:25 pm
Hopefully as he heals it gives his knee time to get stronger and he is ready to go in the 2nd half of the season.
September 12th, 2022 at 4:33 pm
Silver lining here…won’t have to travel to the sewer known as The “Super” Dome…where the Taints wouldn’t be above targeted his knees yet again.
September 12th, 2022 at 4:48 pm
CG14 plays like he’s a TE and a WR. He always has, but unfortunately, he’s built like a gazelle. He raised you-know-what to play some snaps today. His BFF ME13 has the body of a TE but his hammy was a problem last year. Let CG14 rest and heal. Put Jones to work. Still can’t believe the Falcons let him go. BTW, watched the recording of the game, and the most hesitant player on the whole team was Methusaleh TB12. No surprise.
September 12th, 2022 at 4:54 pm
I think this was a tweak from contorting weird due to that bad pass. I not sure this had anything to do with Godwin not being ready to play yet.
September 12th, 2022 at 5:03 pm
Blessing in disguise. The Saints would be going after that knee all next week.
September 12th, 2022 at 5:08 pm
CG should take plenty of time to heal up the hamstring & continue knee rehab
Hamstring tendons connect to the MCL .. Also , we don’t know what other tendons were “harvested” by surgeons to sow back together his torn MCL and the torn ACL.
In my case they harvested the hamstring tendon to repair torn MCL from skiing accident. I’m not a MD … And we don’t know if there might have been “donor ” which is also used today .
It was Great to see him play–but might have been early
September 12th, 2022 at 5:19 pm
Yep, a blessing in disguise. I thought it was his knee again too and was PO’ed. Let him rest some more, 3 or 4 more games at least. That’ll be even better for the knee.
September 12th, 2022 at 5:22 pm
Where you at George (DOPE)
September 12th, 2022 at 5:33 pm
I am in agreement that CG should rest and heal up. We have Julio and Gage to help with the load. He is a game changer on the field, but better to have his services a bit later in the schedule. Was good to see him active and lively last night though. Ice up them hammies CG!
September 12th, 2022 at 5:54 pm
Don’t get the hammy injuries from all these young guys, They need to start taking Brady’s advice on the hydration and pliability .
September 12th, 2022 at 6:07 pm
Get well soon, Sir.
Cant wait to see you back on the field!
September 12th, 2022 at 7:00 pm
I didn’t think Periman looked good at all and yes thank God we have Evans and Julio, but where was our prized FA Gage last night ? IMO I would have kept Tyler over Breshad any day of the week
September 12th, 2022 at 7:02 pm
I wished we still had kept Tyler over Breshad and maybe now we can use Gage to play CGs position
September 12th, 2022 at 8:19 pm
As inspiring as an early recovery can be, they should have rested him longer in the first place.
What you don’t want is another Jerry Rice. Coming back from an injury, balling out, reinjuring even worse, and never being the same again.
Keep him away.
September 12th, 2022 at 9:48 pm
Gage had 2 targets and 2 catches on 26 snaps.
September 12th, 2022 at 9:49 pm
Speaking of the Slimy Saints, did any of y’all see that punk azz bitch Lattimore yesterday?
Couple of real dick moves.
He needs to have an accident this Sunday.
Go ahead ME13…you owe him.
September 12th, 2022 at 10:46 pm
We should have kept Tyler Johnson over Darden all day long. Darden had one good punt return last year. I think he got lucky. He looked just like the same pu$$y as last year. Tripping over nothing and going down from the slightest contact. He doesn’t look like he belongs on this Super Bowl roster.
September 13th, 2022 at 1:30 am
@buccos
Totally agree.
Tyler Johnson looked fit this summer. Johnson is a true backup for Godwin.
Darden was a wasted draft pick and he’s a waste of a roster spot.
He looks a little stronger this year. But he is not better than Mickens was or Johnson is.
September 13th, 2022 at 11:35 am
I don’t understand why people don’t think CG should have played. He rehabbed and healed. You can’t heal more than fully healed. The light doesnt get any greener at an intersection.
It’s an unfortunate injury to his hamstring. Yes. But you aren’t going to keep him the bench. He’s a warrior, not a garage queen you take out for an occasional showing. Yes he needed to be in there to help get back to form for the next 16 games he is payed to play and wants to play. This was a good decision with an unfortunate outcome that could have happened to any of them.
September 13th, 2022 at 12:51 pm
AbucAway, it’s pretty simple. The sooner a player returns from ACL MCL reconstruction, the greater the chance for a hamstring or quad injury. The later they return, that risk goes down. The literature is clear. In this case, the risk far outweighed the reward.
September 14th, 2022 at 6:00 am
We don’t need him until after the bye week. I would use him sparingly.
