10-7 Would Be Unacceptable

It’s almost prediction season at JoeBucsFan.com world headquarters. And today Joe is recalling Tampa Bay finishing 10-6 in 2010 with legendary quarterbacks and superior head coaches in their division.
Nowadays, Bucs division opponents have bottom rung coaches and quarterbacks, and the NFC overall is weaker than it was back then.
So Joe is flummoxed by how anyone could think the Bucs finishing 10-7 this season would be remotely acceptable. It would be a horror show.
Imagine Tom Brady at quarterback with elite receivers and a defense with Pro Bowl players at every level marching into the 2022 season finale against the bumbling Falcons with a 9-7 record. That immediately has Joe remembering Team Glazer firing Chucky after back-to-back 9-7 seasons with a roster half as good as the current one.
Head coach Todd Bowles simply can’t take a seasoned team on a 22-5 run with a roster loaded with legends and turn it into Josh Freeman’s 2020 Buccaneers, or Dirk Koetter’s merry brand of nine-win Bucs in 2016.
Sure, injuries could become great excuses, but they can’t be predicted. Besides, every team’s got them, including the Saints.
New Orleans played four left tackles this preseason, only to see their starter and two others lost to injuries while last year’s stud left tackle has a new team.
The Bucs hired Bowles because they believe he can maintain the status quo: win the division and be a top-3 playoff seed. The latter required 12 wins last season.
The Bucs should be able to hit that bar, considering the Rams, Packers and Cowboys — which all won 12 games or more last season — appear to have taken a significant step backwards.
Joe is not predicting in this space, only exploring the lines of acceptable versus unacceptable. And barring multiple major injuries to key players, anything less than 11 wins this season would be a hot mess.

10-7 would be a disappointment, but would end up acceptable if they landed in the Super Bowl again.
I’ve seen a lot of unacceptable football here over the years. 10-7 with a Superb Owl appearance would not fit that description.
The problem with all preseason predictions and declarations is the unpredictability of injuries. If we lost Brady, for example, 10-7 with Gabbert would be nothing to be ashamed of.
I just don’t really dig these lines in the sand between acceptable and unacceptable. Those judgments are best saved for after the season.

If expectations were high for black coaches, then they’d have an easy time getting hired. But that isn’t the case now, is it?
The season hasn’t even started and yet you’re already cooking up excuses because of Bowles’ skin color. That’s a loser mentality.

The glazers own Manchester united. No matter the results, the message is that you need to figure out a way to win it all. You have time, sort of, but you have to be showing you have what it takes.
A 10-7 can do it if you look set up to run the table. Otherwise, go job hunting.
BTW, chucky shoulda kept quiet. The glazers made him pay, I guarantee.

I don’t care if they’re 10-7 or 11-6, so long as they make the playoffs.
It’s not about your record, it’s about when you get hot, and when you’re healthy. You just need to be good enough to make the show, then, with the Bucs roster, they literally have as good of a chance as anyone to win it all.

I have rolled the dice to 12-5 more than any other thing this preseason.
We’ll own the Cowboys and the first Saints game.
Rogers has a hard time against the Bucs for some reason and the Rams don’t have any new blood.
49ers aren’t going anywhere because of the QB problem. Fans are going to clamor for whoever isn’t playing.
Mahomes has started really badly the last two years, so hard to pick.

Hugh Jackson(the mistake by the lake) compiled a 3-36-1 record as Head Coach of the Cleveland Browns, including a winless 2017 season. WOW! Talk about a Head Coach given every opportunity to succeed.

Bucs are 1-12 in Dallas all-time.
Also, I don’t know what the Bucs record is in SNF games, but I don’t think it’s all that good.
Personally I’m not worried about losing on the road, against an NFC team, to open the season. Last time the Bucs did that, they won the SB. Sure, I’d love the W, but I’m not going to panic if they don’t win that game.

The only thing these two teams have in common with the history you keep reposting is that they wear the same uniforms. History has no bearing on this match up, in other words. History is rewritten every day. Don’t understand why people choose to compare today to yesteryear when in this instance it has no bearing. No team had ever won a superbowl in its home stadium in the 100 year History of the NFL. Then all of a sudden two teams do it back to back. What were the chances of that? Roughly 1 in 10000. What does that mean? Nothing, just like your nonsensical post.

I am looking at 6-11 season. Licht has done nothing to sign the two experienced offensive line we need. Wirfs may not be cleared for Dallas. Defense will be on the field too long. Brady will be sacked relentlessly and ultimately injured.

We will have all are weapons besides Godwin I assume..
Online should have 3 starters n 2 Essential rookies yes..we will need to scheme for them to be bums but hopefully they’ll be ready

George, I was thinking something along the same lines of a 6-11 when the schedule first came out, and could still happen. My 8-9ish guess is my maximum optimistic.

when the schedule initially came out i had us at 11-6 and i thought that would be a successful year with the lineup we faced…
but i’d say 12-5 should be the number now…
10-7 would be a bit of a disappointment and 13-4 would be one hell of a year considering the schedule…
also gotta see how injuries play out, the goat vs. giselle beef, etc

Generally agree with Joe, but I think it is worth noting that the “unacceptable” is coming from the fan perspective. That being said, unless it is all “talk,” what then happens if the season goes 10-7 or worse? In a restaurant, “unacceptable” means you send your food back. In your retirement account, “unacceptable” means you sell out of a crummy fund. In finding a place to live, “unacceptable” means you move away from Philadelphia. So what does it really mean here? We stop being fans? I think not. But is Joe saying he’d demand house cleaning at the coaching position (after only 1 year)?

Joe I see NFC South division here being very tough this season. The Saints are going to be better than last season and many are sleeping on the Stinking Panthers. Baker is going to better than Sam Darnold was last season. Panthers defense is going to be good too. Let’s not going crowning ourselves Division Champs yet.
