Super Bowl Or Bust
September 4th, 2022Man, talk about the highest standards.
Over at SI.com, Gary Gramling seems to think if the Bucs with Tom Brady don’t make the Super Bowl, the season will be a waste.
Worst Case: Anything short of a Super Bowl victory is a disappointment for a Brady-led team, which is why a second straight divisional-round loss doesn’t go over well. Brady’s second free-agency tour (Miami? San Francisco?) unofficially starts in January.
This is why Joe is a little surprised the Bucs haven’t picked up a seasoned backup on the offensive line. Perhaps that’s coming in the next week?
Joe thinks a team all-in for this season wouldn’t rely on banged up Nick Leverett as the go-to guy if there is another injury. And it is hard to imagine the Bucs playing 17 games without an injury to an offensive lineman.
(FYI, Gramling expects the Bucs to win 13 games.)

Sounds like a good strategy. I trust Licht to keep on top of such things.
September 4th, 2022 at 11:08 am
You’d have to bring in somebody worth cutting another guy over.
September 4th, 2022 at 11:24 am
Licht is showing great patience……you would think there would be at least one G/C that was cut who is better than our backups…..
I think he is waiting for the right 1-year vet to shore up our oline….
As far as SB….isn’t that always the goal regardless of QB….& I don’t buy Brady going to another team next year….it’s Bucs or retirement for him.
I don’t think he wants to hop around the league on his way out.
September 4th, 2022 at 11:29 am
Let’s trade Tyler Johnson for an O-lineman. Oh wait….
September 4th, 2022 at 11:32 am
“As far as SB….isn’t that always the goal ”
agreed …so anything short of a Super Bowl victory should be a disappointment for all teams

Oh and with sadness,
Rest in peace, #94 Steve White

100% agree with TBBF. We can completely trust in Licht when it comes to the Oline. I also think Licht is playing a waiting game to get a reasonable deal on a quality G/C backup.
Areas where we can question Licht are choosing a QB high in last years draft when another top-notch CB might have gotten the Bucs thru their massive injury problems (in addition to the fact we can’t afford all the FA CB that will go on the market this spring). And please Mr. Licht, no drafting more friggin kickers.

Maybe our Super Bowl winning, 22-5 GM has a plan and knows what’sbest for the team. Ya think???
September 4th, 2022 at 12:00 pm
In addition to the mess at LG, let’s hope Wirfs’ oblique injury doesn’t become a habitual problem over the course of the season. Oblique strains can be slow to heal.
September 4th, 2022 at 12:14 pm
TBBF…I’m with you dude.
It’s Tampa Bay or retirement.
Go Bucs!!!
September 4th, 2022 at 12:40 pm
Maybe Jensen is coming back after the bye; cleary he’s not hurt as bad as Stinnie, whose injury and surgery they were open about, and is done.
September 4th, 2022 at 12:41 pm
Nobody gives up good linemen. We got what we got.
September 4th, 2022 at 12:54 pm
11 wins max if no one gets hurt. I am surprised Leverett is not on the taxi squad instead of being considered as a starter.
September 4th, 2022 at 1:17 pm
I heard joe Haeg was just picked up
September 4th, 2022 at 1:23 pm
Hope Bradys mind stays on the game if not its going to be a long season.
September 4th, 2022 at 1:25 pm
Bingo! Joe nails it again. If this is a SB or bust season, why are we depending on two interior linemen who have never taken a snap in the NFL. We have the GOAT as QB where we know one of his weakness is interior pressure, and we’re depending on two guys who are making a position change this year! It’s nuts! Why Is Bowles looking at the long term view of playing the young guys?
It’s totally illogical that we make an all in move like signing Julio Jones, but we don’t shore up the OL. We have all these shiny new skill players, but it won’t matter if Tommy boy is checking the ball down or throwing the ball away because the line can’t hold up. I also don’t buy the viewpoint of some Bucs fans who say we need to give it time. Have any of you took a look at our schedule? It’s brutal, beginning with the first four games. We don’t have time for growing pains.
Look, I’ve had a chance to attend some joint practices this season. Hainsey looked below average, but Goedke looked awful! He looked like a D2 OL. And the preseason game against the Colts? We all saw how he got manhandled.
We’ve already had two linemen get hurt by because their teammate got bulldozed and landed on their lower body. It happened with Stinnie and Jensen and most recently with Leverett and Hainsey. Bowles is failing his team, but not bringing in a veteran.
September 4th, 2022 at 1:30 pm
Bucs are wasting the opportunity with Brady this season to make it to the Super Bowl. They need to sign two experienced offensive lineman. Otherwise they are looking at 6-11 type season
September 4th, 2022 at 1:31 pm
And the strange thing is you don’t even hear the Bucs named as a team trying to make a move for an O—Lineman. So buzzard. I get it, they could be keeping it under wraps but it’s pretty obvious to any organization, and even your weekend warrior fan that they need help, and fast.
September 4th, 2022 at 1:50 pm
What you want to do is wait until the last minute to sign more depth at O-line. That way, they can’t learn the offense or gel with their line mates. It’s genius.
September 4th, 2022 at 1:52 pm
Patience is key here. If they sign a veteran AFTER Week 1, they don’t have to guarantee his contract for the year. If they sign a vested veteran now, they do.
September 4th, 2022 at 1:58 pm
For what I can tell they gmhave bunch of OT on the market..
The question is do we see any that can play gaurd.
September 4th, 2022 at 2:04 pm
A lot of if’s this season.
September 4th, 2022 at 2:20 pm
I’m not sure whether Licht is being patient ,, or stubborn
September 4th, 2022 at 2:23 pm
If Brady gets sacked 3 or 4 times against Dallas you will see a veteran in here fast.
September 4th, 2022 at 3:14 pm
In other news……maybe the Gators now have a QB in Anthony Richardson that will thrive in the NFL. Probably won’t be available when the Bucs draft, but for anyone all gooey about Trask, have a look at #15’s performance against Utah. It’s clear that dumbarse Dan Mullen didn’t do anything to help AR. I hope the young man can keep his head straight and do the work required to be great this season and great in the NFL.
September 4th, 2022 at 3:32 pm
Anthony Richardson looked good last night but he has a long way to go before he will be “pro ready.” People seem to get so enamored with these athletic specimens at the QB position and truthfully, they rarely pan out.
September 4th, 2022 at 5:50 pm
Joe, as many of us keep reminding, they show no signs of being truly all-in. Not SB or bust/final Brady all-in.
No seasoned backups on OL. No additional great edge pass rusher(s). No real replacement for Suh (Hicks is not a one-for-one). No creative replacement for Gronk.
They ARE relying on banged-up Leverett and not-ready/softish Hainsey. Emphatically.
They ARE relying on rookies to be instant impact, JTS to be Von Miller, and the same guys to be exponentially better than their disappointing form last season.
This is it. Hope that it’s even enough to get to .500.
September 4th, 2022 at 6:35 pm
@Steele. You’re not allowed to make reasonable statements. You must completely trust in Licht. You can’t question any of his moves, especially with the OL. It’s totally fine that we have two inexperienced OL with Brady in his last year, a supposed SB or bust season. Anyone that has followed his entire career knows that interior pressure bothers him. Interior pressure bothers every QB, but Tom loves sweet spots in the pocket to able to step up.
It wouldn’t be so bad to have an inexperienced C, but to have an unknown LG next to him is borderline negligent! Like I’ve said before, I attended this event they had for season ticket holders, and Tom was very clear that the LG position was a question mark. He damn sure wasn’t toeing the company line about trust with the current crop of LGs. Licht, Bowles, and Brian Glazer were sitting right next to him when he made that statement. He’s sending out warnings. The next warning will be having an absolute meltdown on the sidelines on national TV because the line is a sieve. He already was pissed at the one joint practice he had with the Dolphins. He went and complained to BA because the line didn’t hold up.
September 4th, 2022 at 7:35 pm
Teams don’t just release starting caliber o-linemen, and a trade requires a willing trade partner. Signing different linemen who are also inexperienced or marginal is just replacing the mediocre with the mediocre. Did it ever occur to you guys that maybe Hainsey Goedeke and Leverette are pretty much equivalent to what else is out there and truly available? Some of you name possible FA replacements, but if these guys are really good enough to beat out our guys why aren’t they on somebody’s roster already? I admit that what we have might not be good enough to reach our goals, but unfortunately it’s probably as good as we’re going to get..
September 4th, 2022 at 7:48 pm
As long as some of you are talking college football… The heck with Florida, did you look at the Bulldogs?
Their QB is turning into Mac Jones before our eyes and they got some all pro tight ends just waiting to be drafted.
As much as they lost in the NFL draft, the defense doesn’t look like it missed a beat. They have some serious DBs & LBs
September 4th, 2022 at 10:53 pm
@Swygert. Is that you, Jason Licht. A Licht burner perhaps
September 5th, 2022 at 7:50 am
George, you’re insane, 6-11. Brady could be playing in a wheel chair and not go 6-11. The reason Bucs lose to the Rams and Saints is because Bucs coaches don’t change anything. Where is the creativity they showed in the SB. My guess is they were using their creative juices to write better resumes.
