Tom Brady’s Street Cred Got Him A Mid-Training Camp Vacation
August 31st, 2022When you are Tom Brady, you have a different set of rules.
That’s basically what Bruce Arians told Jori Epstein of USA Today. Arians has been making the media rounds this week to help raise awareness for men to have health checkups. And in speaking with Epstein, Arians spelled out why Brady got to do the unthinkable with 99 percent of football coaches in America: The starting quarterback got an 11-day vacation in the middle of training camp.
Simply put, he’s Tom freaking Brady.
“You can ask the players in the huddle who get their butt chewed out by him,” Arians quipped. “They all know he’s laser-focused and ready to roll. So I would say to anyone: ‘Don’t worry about Tom Brady.’
“One thing about Tom Brady is you never have to worry about focus. He’s all in, or he wouldn’t be there.”
That’s the thing. If Brady was just some lazy arse, this would be different. Of course, lazy arses aren’t playing in the NFL at 45. Brady is driven like few are.
Workaholic ways combined with his jewelry box buy Brady massive amounts of street cred, as it should. For all that Brady has done for this franchise, he deserves a lot of rope.
Just like Joe has typed many times, Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht has earned tons of street cred, specifically when it deals with the offensive line.
If he and Bucs coaches think Robert Hainsey can handle center duties, that’s fine with Joe. The guy took the Bucs offensive line from total trash to the best in the NFL in 2020. That demonstrates the man knows what he is doing.
Players respect and look up to Brady. If Brady wants to take off in the middle of training camp, more power to him so long as he shows up on for Week 1.
(Of course, that doesn’t mean Joe can’t make fun of Brady for doing so. 🙂 )

Remember when Joe told us Brady wasn’t on vacation and alluded to him bailing on the team weeks before the season?
Now he pretends like none of that happened while talking up Brady’s street cred.
Haha!
[One of the more reputable reporters covering the NFL reported he was in the Bahamas. Claiming Joe is lying about something is a very good way to get run from this site. Tread carefully. Joe is in a good mood currently. — Joe]

Brady needs training camp like he needs another hole in his head. Not at all

The sad thing for the NFL is that the next set of diva QBs and WRs are going to be demanding time off in their contracts.
Pandora’s box is opened.
August 31st, 2022 at 12:02 pm
My speculation is that when Brady signed with Fox there’s a stipulation in his contract that he had to be apart of the masked singer since fox owns the rights to the show. Filming just happened to be right when they were filming for upcoming season and he could not get out of show.

How about an article about players who have been cut by other teams that the Bucs should pursue?

You must care “RPJ,” or whatever the fffff… You keep commenting, very angrily too, I must add.

Good point, geno.
However, I think Brady is an anomaly, and very, very few will ever receive his preferential treatment due to his status as living legend.
Very few, if any, coaches would ever allow it. Brady is an exception and everyone knows it, most importantly, on this team, which is an assumption but no player seems disgruntled in the least.

PS: Saw a segment on GMFB where they said they are gonna make a new segment entitled:
“Gotta lot of sh!t going on…”
It was hilarious.

Any Buc fan who complains about Brady isn’t a Buc fan, he is someone on this site complaining about everything

“Joe won’t censor you. You’ve just been deleted.”
In the words of every cop from South Park – “Nice”
Maybe this article will trigger and draw out a few more whose “deletion” we’d all appreciate…..

Brady has a certain cache amongst his teammates, and mad respect from his opponents. I dare say he’s the only player who could get away with it. They think of him almost like a deity. I’m reminded of Julio Jones comments during Superbowl 51. The Falcons had just gone up 28-3. The Atl. recievers we’re talking like the game was over. Jones spoke up. “But man, that’s Tom Brady over there” we all know how that one turned out. Add two more rings after that one, and it’s easy to see why he’s so respected by his peers.
August 31st, 2022 at 12:50 pm
If you have a problem with Brady, you’re an idiot, a mongoloid, a dullard, plus you’re stupid. I would say that’s just my opinion, but it’s not, it’s literally true.

People criticize the Falcons for putting the ball in the hands of Matt Ryan, but he was the NFL’s MVP. Who knew that he’d have a meltdown? He’s literally Matty Ice. He’s still doing commercials calling himself that. If you can’t put the ball into the hands of the league’s MVP, then what are you supposed to do?
Oh, wait, Matty Ice is yugely overrated, and choked away an easy SB win for an awful city. What an idiot. He should never live that down.

@D-Rok
Just so you understand, I am one of the people who have no problem with Brady stipulating that he have this time off if he was to come back.
August 31st, 2022 at 1:14 pm
geno,
Me neither. It was a condition of his employment. Nuff said, now let’s play some freakin’ ball!! Can’t wait for 9/11. (Never thought I’d say that…)
August 31st, 2022 at 1:27 pm
What a cancerous mentality to have by Bruce Arians. No player is bigger than the team. The Bucs have helped Brady more than Brady has helped the Bucs. After all, the defense carried the team to a Super Bowl.
Maybe the team should remember that Tom is all about Tom. There’s a reason he was tampering with Miami. Tampa Bay was the fallback option, not the first option.
August 31st, 2022 at 1:34 pm
Rod, holy smokes. Didn’t know your hatred for Matt Ryan ran that deep. Did he gag? Certainly. But, his stupid, arrogant coaching staff didn’t help. They never attempted to bleed the clock. When you’re up 25 points into the third quarter, it’s simple math. Even a bunch of three runs and punt, and the Patriots simply wouldn’t have had enough time. I’m no fan of Ryan either, but that loss is on KS, as much as Matt Ryan. The Patriots were also in superior shape. You could tell by the end, that the falcons were completely gassed.

Anybody who comes in and is primarily responsible for delivering a Super Bowl win can take a few days off in training camp and I won’t complain.

I find it laughable that some of you think starters & third string and superstars & back ups should all be treated the same. This isn’t high school football.
This is a business with grown men. If you’ve been to Almost 20% of every Super Bowl ever played, you deserve a little special treatment.
If your Mike Evans in preseason or a wide receiver name Sterns trying to make the team… You’re going to be treated a little different.
And you should.
GENO
I don’t think this sets a precedence for anything because no one is a peer of Tom Brady.
August 31st, 2022 at 3:12 pm
out of all the ridiculous things I’ve read on here this one has to top them all:
‘Brady needed the Bucs more than the Bucs needed Brady’
how many SBs did Brady come with compared to the franchise, the coaching staff, the other players?
How were tickets, jerseys, merchandise, etc selling before Brady?
How often was the team the centerpiece of national media attention?
How many impactful free agents would have signed in the absence of Brady being the QB?
give me a break

Ok, where I agree is that Brady has no peers.
But let me ask you. if DeSaun Watson can get a huge, guaranteed contract with all the mess against him — Is it so hard to believe that in the future a quarterback with the greater leverage than the team can’t put something in his contract allowing him time off in the middle of the summer?
August 31st, 2022 at 3:39 pm
geno, it’s a possibility. Said player would need to have the clout with his teammates, and coaches. Leverage is one thing, but losing the respect of your teammates is another. Look at all the fuss over Brady’s absence. A 7 time champ (5 SB MVPs too) I didn’t like the look of it, but I never questioned Brady’s ultimate commitment. He cares too much about his image, and legacy. Could another player get away with it? Sure probably. But, that player would need to have multiple rings.

In that photo Brady sure looks like he’s had face surgery.
August 31st, 2022 at 3:43 pm
Anonymous are you a Bucs fan or hater? Sounds like you hate Brady. If the defense won that Super Bowl then you weren’t watching. The defense took over in the fourth quarter after they were handed 31 three quarter points. Textbook winning. GOBUCS!

New rumor I heard. Gisele and Brady went for 11 days but I heard it was for adoption. This the sacrifice Brady has taken to play this year for Bucs
August 31st, 2022 at 4:46 pm
I’ve never heard of adoptions from the Bahamas; Esatern Europe, yes.

If he had face surgery there would be scars. Movie stars won’t show themselves for months after a face lift. The adoption thing actually sounds like something Gisele would want to do.
August 31st, 2022 at 6:13 pm
Even the great Peyton Manning didn’t have street cred with his favorite receiver Rodney Harrison, Brady anywhere he goes. We knew the mohrons who hate Brady up here and one has given all that his thoughts are worth, 2 cents, now we wait for the other one Hoeneill to give hers too. Brady has done more in his two years here than the last 5 coaches we’ve had. He deserves his special treatment and the only one.

No idea man…no idea. It’s NOT easy being a Bucs fan. Brady makes it easier for now.
I grew up on Cape Cod so I know your team’s history too.
Go Bucs!!!

If the GOAT wants time off, whether it’s vacationing with his lovely family in the Caribbean or strutting the runway in the Masked Singer, so be it. However, when Football season starts, he will be all in and at the age of 45 he is truly in a league of his own. Can’t wait to watch him take the Bucs to the next level, again. Go Bucs. Go Canes, the other Miami team.
