Excellent Example Of No-Risk-It-No-Biscuit Offense
August 31st, 2022Last year when the Bucs failed on first down passes, they were coming after your arse on second down. Believe it!
So the following will either get folks fired up and yelling “Awesome!” or fans will throw their remotes up against the wall and yell “Predictable!”
Noted handicapper and stat head Warren Sharp ran the numbers and no NFL team ran the ball fewer times on second down after an incompletion or a sack than the Bucs. Some 81 percent of the time offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich had Tom Brady back in the pocket to try again after a pass play failed on first down through the first three quarters of games.
Joe loves this aggression. But Joe can also understand why Leftwich has the label of being a predictable play-caller.
2nd down run rate after a sack/incompletion
1. NYG – 65%
2. TEN – 64%
3. WAS – 60%
4. HOU – 57%
5. DET/MIN – 56%
7. CHI – 55%
8. DEN – 54%
9. PIT – 51%
10. SF – 45%
–
25. GB – 30%
26. LA/SEA – 29%
28. KC – 28%
29. LV – 26%
30. ARI – 35%
31. CIN – 24%
32. TB – 19%2021 qtrs 1-3

Interesting, most teams at the bottom of this list are playoffs teams
August 31st, 2022 at 12:12 am
Nit-picking an offense that rolled. When Brady is QB, throwing is the way to first downs.
August 31st, 2022 at 12:20 am
2 playoff teams in the top 10 and every team in the bottom 8 were playoff teams minus Seattle. Throw the damn ball!
August 31st, 2022 at 12:22 am
When your best players are your QB and receivers, throw the damm ball.
August 31st, 2022 at 12:47 am
Love it. If you’re 2nd and 10 or worse and you have the greatest quarterback in the history of the NFL, still playing like the greatest quarterback in the history of the NFL, and elite weapons all around him… Throw the biscuit!

Execution trumps predictability.
August 31st, 2022 at 1:07 am
I would like a heavy run offense the first 3 games. Get the oline rolling
August 31st, 2022 at 1:41 am
“Predictable!”
August 31st, 2022 at 1:49 am
I’m pointing to vanilla run plays..not enough trickery ..mostly dive up the middle with no push from the oline.
This oline is a benefactor of brady quick release and pass protection time.
Smith is overrated average hands horrible foot work..lg last year marpet was prob playing scared since he was planning to retired..Jensen is a dog but tends to be over aggressive at times..cappa sucked prove me different..he owes brady money..wire is a monster but still room to get better with run protection.
This year we only got worse n losing gronk will hurt the protection schemes.
This is why we should he pushing to get s1 number 1 guy at lg..some team will deal fir the right package ..
Also need to talk gronk back n dump Rudolph.
Dump dee Delaney
Dump nassib
Dump Darden
We need another edge rusher for when Tryon gets banged up.
Someone who will being the speed but can drop in coverage.

Excuse the typos gentlemen…
New phone is coming tomorrow these cracks make it hell
August 31st, 2022 at 2:01 am
Well, when you have Brady and the glut of recieving weapons that we had/have you just go ahead and send it for the first 3/4 of the game and then worry about winning in the 4th quarter.
Thr NFL has essentially turned into the NBA I guess.

@ Buc king
You’re living in a dream world.
You must play in a 8-team fantasy football league if you think you can replace half the team in the drop of a hat.
Just enjoy the ride while we still have the goat.

Leftwich will be exposed at his next gig…..Brady makes everyone look better because he’s seen everything a defense can throw at him. Give Leftwich a QB that’s not elite and the offense will struggle. IMO….Good coaching is where Payton had Winston looking like a capable game manager vs a turnover machine. Leftwich doesn’t adapt to a player’s strength and weaknesses, he’s not likely to have an elite qb at his next stop that could practically call his own game. Then we’ll see his ability to coach and game plan.

Am I the only one that wants Vaughn at number two.
August 31st, 2022 at 3:14 am
Here a few guards that just came avaliable:
Wyatt Davis, Jordan Mills, Blaise Andries
All three are interesting options out there. Under the radar.

Given the quality of teams with the lower run rate I’m going to agree with most here. These teams are passing on 2nd down because they can. They have good qbs and receivers and are using them. The high run rate teams are doing that to minimize mistakes.
August 31st, 2022 at 5:42 am
I don’t agree that throwing after an incompletion is related to no risk it no biscuit, which should be indicated by ratio of targeted throwing distance to the down distance.
August 31st, 2022 at 6:50 am
Combine this with the vanilla dives up the middle on first down, as buc king says, and predicability is a problem.
August 31st, 2022 at 7:09 am
It’s even more if you add in failure on a run on first down…….I would like to know our 1st down running average……anybody know?
August 31st, 2022 at 8:22 am
@Tampabaybucfan
we averaged 4.6 yards per carry on 244 attempted 1st down runs for a grand total of 1,113 yards gained on first down runs. As a team, we rushed for a total of 1,672 yards. So, all the people I see here complaining about seeing a vanilla offense in the preseason clearly don’t know how preseasons work. Joke is also on anybody that thinks we don’t have success running the ball on 1st down, when its clearly the down our run game has been the most effective. It’s hilarious stuff to read, almost South Parkish.

We have been a successful offense. Not sure that anyone can name a more successful offense over the last two years.
Give Brady and the players credit but not sure how anyone can hate on the coaching staff given the last two years of success. They have gotten it done too.
August 31st, 2022 at 9:03 am
Astonishingly, during Brady years the Bucs are #! in passing % on first down.
Watching, I never would have believed it.
Maybe related to being #30 in success running the ball on first down before the changes that were made during the bye week in 2020.

I don’t think I’m being unreasonable to say the bucs should hunt the waiver wire fir a better cb or dB the dee Delaney..
I don’t think nassib or Rudolph look fit for the game they look slow asf and lethargic.
We have enough te to drop Rudy as they call him and I think we push gronk into coming home.
I think Julian Edelman just announced he wants to play football again and brady wants him so..bye darden..there’s 3 fixes..
Use are 1st or 2nd round pick to trade for a great to good lg on par with Shaq Mason level if we must because protecting the qb is ideal…
Finally kick the tires on any good dline man out there idc who..ideally suh..gmc..we need another vet dline guy who can play glue for us and depth.
I’m nit playing madden or spoiled I call 99% of the bucs moves.
I said brady I said ab I said Mike evans I said godwin I said suh I said fournette I said jpp i didn’t see gronk happening or Shaq Barrett but I will say they we’re pleasant n we’ll endorsed pick up.
Yes my 25 years of playing madden franchise mode has made me a arm chair gm..but i will say Jason n I think a lot a like.
He is typically seeing it how I do so I respect him.
I will say he reaches on punters n kickers.
I did endorse Kyle Trask pick tho maybe a round higher then I would of selected him but still a good development player.
I see holes in the team and few injuries will be back in the same boat as last year.
I know you will say how do we get the money?
We have 9 mil…
We can restructure like 2 or 3 players if that’s a true issue…but if I trade for a player at lg I would get a guy with 1yr left on his contract n have his current team eat the cap to sign him..we just pony up a better pick…
Last year was bringer all back n run it back ..injuries hit n we sputtered out..honestly it was the right move for us.
Just didn’t work out.
This year we are retooling and should be all in on making brady feel safe and have the time he needs.
He won’t play another yr if he’s getting hit everytime he goes to throw it.
We have essentially 2 rookies guarding his weakest spot.
We have 4 beast wr…we gotta keep him clean..I’m willing to see if hainsey got it till Jensen is back but we don’t need to experiment at lg on a all in season.
It’s time to be greedy and calculated.
F the draft next year..
Use your picks n get buccaneer type men now.
I just gave up the blue print to give us the best chance of playing when it counts.
August 31st, 2022 at 11:33 am
Licht is not trading the first round. They used a second on Trask when we were going for two. F the future is not Licht’s job and he’s pretty good at his job
August 31st, 2022 at 1:50 pm
I always say the Bucs offensive system doesn’t make life easier on the quarterback or the receivers. It’s dependent on the offensive players winning out on talent. Shanahan system for example makes things easier for limited QBs like Jimmy G. That’s great coaching. I bet you Kyle Trask would look a whole lot better with shanahan drawing up plays for him and expertly working around his weaknesses. Brady’s job would be a whole lot easier too if you give him these same caliber of weapons as the Bucs but have shanahan be the offensive coordinator.

Besides Tennessee none of the teams in the top 10 on this list were any good last season, but every team in the bottom 7, except the Raiders, were top tier teams.
Strong evidence that being aggressive is a hallmark of the best teams.
