Roster Changes Come Swiftly
August 30th, 2022History says the official 2022 Buccaneers 53-man roster likely will be different in a matter of hours, and especially in days.
Joe wrote about this phenomenon earlier today, but it’s worth repeating so nobody runs out and buys, say, a Ko Kieft or a Brandon Walton jersey. No Ke’Shawn Vaughn tattoos until Halloween, please.
Joe has no doubt the Bucs will be seeking special teams help and a quality body on the offensive line. Will they find one?
August 30th, 2022 at 7:30 pm
Alex Leatherwood… He was cut by the Raiders. If he clears waivers he will be a free agent. Anyone who claims him off waivers will have to pay him @ $8M.
The entire league is thin at offensive line…
August 30th, 2022 at 7:34 pm
Marine, I agree but Raiders will be paying 58% of his salary.
August 30th, 2022 at 7:37 pm
Need to sign Erik Flowers
August 30th, 2022 at 7:40 pm
Leatherwood is atrocious. He had 14 penalties and 8 sacks allowed.
August 30th, 2022 at 7:42 pm
After the roster move with Jensen/Ryan, I believe we will make only one or two other changes……
August 30th, 2022 at 7:43 pm
Yah. I didnt think cuts would provide some decent left guard that would slip thru the cracks.
Sorry but oline interior is going to be a fingers crossed move by the bucs this season.
Hope we can get thompkins too practice squad
August 30th, 2022 at 7:46 pm
@ Listn
Well if that’s the case maybe we take the chance for $3.5M. I bet he is way better than Goedeke at this juncture.
Plus Hainsey and Leavertt are both fighting injuries and we have not played a single game yet… We still have @ $9M under the cap.
August 30th, 2022 at 7:48 pm
@ Gobucsfan
Was that last year or entire career?
I know he struggled at OT but it seemed like he was improved as an OG.
August 30th, 2022 at 7:50 pm
Rookie guard Justin Shaffer of Falcons is a road grader who lost out to a loaded position situation in Atl. I wanted us to draft him. Check out his footage at UGA.
August 30th, 2022 at 7:51 pm
I think we fine on oline yall trippin
August 30th, 2022 at 7:53 pm
He did struggle as a OT much better guard and he didn’t like it. How many penalties has Jensen had? Probably equals the 14.
August 30th, 2022 at 7:53 pm
Marine Buc… Alex Leatherwood was cut because he was an absolute bust. His penalties and sacks allowed were atrocious.
August 30th, 2022 at 7:55 pm
Just because someone is a name doesn’t mean anything, Alex Leatherwood was The absolute worst tackle in the NFL last year. He’s not worth a back up spot
August 30th, 2022 at 7:55 pm
Leatherwood is versatile. He is just as awful as an OT as he is as an OG.
August 30th, 2022 at 7:55 pm
Not high on the raider let’s see how things shake out with cuts first.
Trades come next…
I would encourage the bucs to go all in..
They should mortgage the future to win now.
1st pick 2nd pick wte they need to use to solidify lg and still think they can use another outside lb that bring heat.
Te with hands n speed..but I take a begged gronk to come back n play as well..
Another beast Db to push the room.
Depth can be much stronger is what I’m looking at most.
This team was injury prone last year.
Can we keep players hydrated n stretched out b4 practices n games
August 30th, 2022 at 8:01 pm
He was cut Marine Buc and you know he’s better. Than Goedeke how? Have you seen Leatherwood play
August 30th, 2022 at 8:03 pm
Marine, not sure the breakdown at T vs G but those stats were for last year. Last year was his rookie year. It’s possible the Raiders are giving up too soon.
For comparison, Jensen had 5 penalties and 2 sacks on 50 more snaps last year. Not sure about passing plays comparison but I know we threw the ball a ton last year.
August 30th, 2022 at 8:09 pm
First off, Leatherwood will pass through waivers. No GM wants that contract. Someone will claim him due to his draft pedigree, and status as an Outland Trophy winner.
But he’s awful.
August 30th, 2022 at 8:15 pm
@Listn Jensen has had 8 accepted penalties since 2020. 4 in 2020 and 6 total (two offset) in 2021 (including playoffs) and each penalty was a different kind of infraction and he had no repeats.
On the other hand Alex had 13 penalties (16 total 2 declined, 1 offset) with 7 false starts, and 4 holding penalties alone last year. Doesn’t seem like a great fit.
August 30th, 2022 at 8:18 pm
I really don’t understand why Licht has never just traded for an established returner that has a proven record. Why spend a 4th on a guy who wasn’t a college returner, to be your returner, when likely you could get a known quantity for a 4th. Licht has never seemingly put any value on returners, yet will draft kickers and punters, when you can find them all day long on the FA market. It’s not really a criticism of Licht, just that I’d value a good returner as the Bucs have only really ever had one above average returner ever, and that was Karl Williams.
August 30th, 2022 at 8:28 pm
Watching Colts replay now.
Goedke looks like child among men. Pushed all over.
August 30th, 2022 at 8:34 pm
Licht usually finds the player(s) needed this time of year … He’s still on the clock ….
August 30th, 2022 at 8:36 pm
Jmarkbuc
Hainsey and leverett did not have good games either. Hainesy better then leverett
August 30th, 2022 at 8:46 pm
Kieft isn’t going anywhere. They have plans for him. He’s a Buccaneer man.
August 30th, 2022 at 8:53 pm
Joe – told ya so.
August 30th, 2022 at 8:53 pm
What David said. Leatherwood was atrociously overdrafted by one of Joe’s favorites, Mike mayock. Decent draft evaluator. Absolutely atrocious GM. Leatherwood is a name. Many other options I would choose over him from the scrap heap.
August 30th, 2022 at 8:59 pm
Too late. I already bought all of the Ko Kieft Jerseys. GET OUT OF HIS WAY!
August 30th, 2022 at 8:59 pm
Alec Lindstrom, C, could be a practice squad signee.
August 30th, 2022 at 9:08 pm
Likely center move is Molchon back to the practice squad. If they can do better I’m sure they’ll try, but Molchon knows the system and has been with the team for a few years now. He may never be anything more than a PS guy or desperation backup. Would love to see some other moves for the O-line as guys become available. Don’t really understand keeping Fred Johnson.
August 30th, 2022 at 9:10 pm
Joe is there room for Suh? Asking for a friend.
August 30th, 2022 at 9:23 pm
saw Kieft’s picture and my heart stopped, DON’T DO THAT JOE!
August 30th, 2022 at 9:27 pm
Nassib n Rudolph but look.slower then any ol Joe of the street
August 30th, 2022 at 9:31 pm
I guess I can buy a Darden jersey now since he will never be cut. Keeping Darden means another season of lousy punt and kick returns.
August 30th, 2022 at 9:33 pm
Howard is impressed with Logan Ryans selflessness.
Ryan, like Howard, is a team 1st high character team member.
August 30th, 2022 at 9:38 pm
Time for TB12 to do some Oline help tampering lol
August 30th, 2022 at 9:43 pm
Howard believes that Jensen the Anunnaki will be back sooner than expected. No worries.
August 30th, 2022 at 9:49 pm
Everyone relax…chill….take a deep breath….Xanax………several scotches…..some counselling…..JASON HAS GOT THIS!!!
August 30th, 2022 at 9:52 pm
The fact we cut Molchon makes feel they are confident in the health of Hainsey and Leverette.
August 30th, 2022 at 9:52 pm
Leatherwood was a result of the Mike Mayock experiment–man was awful at the GM position!
August 30th, 2022 at 10:00 pm
I suggest Cody Whitehair to Tampa Bay. Whitehair has experience at guard and center.
The former Kansas State Wildcat has a tremendous ability of staying healthy, logging 6,224 snaps in his career and missing only two games in six seasons.
I think he would jump at a chance to play for Brady and a contender!
Not a great year last year with 5 penalties and 4 sacks but that was in 1121 snaps and I got to think that Justin Fields was holding on to the ball too long.
The year before that in Chicago, he had no penalties and 3 sacks in 893 snaps.
August 30th, 2022 at 10:05 pm
Bird
Yikes.
August 30th, 2022 at 10:10 pm
Suh comin.
August 30th, 2022 at 10:12 pm
I don’t have any confidence that Hainesy will last more than a few games. He seems injury prone. Need another versatile olineman that can play center or guard. Darden is a waste of a roster spot. ko keift is a keeper. He’s old school. Hopefully Logan Ryan comes back tomorrow. Let’s hope Brady will have decent pass protection.
August 30th, 2022 at 10:30 pm
The bucs O line is essentially set, barring a trade. They aren’t getting a starting quality lineman out of some teams sloppy secs. Leatherwood will clear waivers simply because of the salary. He’s also been horrible in camp. So much so, that he made the Patriots defense look functional in joints all by himself. BUST. They have two weeks to finagle something. If I were Licht, call old friend BB, and swing a deal for Winn. They may need to pay more in salary, but he’s better than most of what they have left.
August 30th, 2022 at 10:50 pm
I agree with someone up above… Everyone relax. They will be picking up another lineman, if nothing else they need it for depth.
As for Hansey at Center, he is going to be good. Godecke guard… We shall see.
For everyone complaining about Darden, I trust the coaches. The guy was electric and had good hands, they’re going to give him another chance. Thompkins, meanwhile should be on the practice squad ready to pounce if Darden doesn’t prove some worth.
Personally I’m more worried about Miller, he did not look good this preseason and I still have yet to see him do anything besides ago route.
JOHNSON Still has me shocked.
August 30th, 2022 at 11:23 pm
It’s always amusing to watch fan freakout over roster decisions as if any of you know better than the front office and coaching staff.
August 30th, 2022 at 11:27 pm
I just don’t see any reason to be blithely confident with so many unproven rookie and second-year players who will either be starting or having a key role in the rotation. I wasn’t impressed with Goedeke, and Hainsy is raw and possibly brittle. There’s a vet at TE, but he’s either washed or pretty close to it, and he’s backed up by rookies.
I’m hoping for some trades. The answers aren’t going to arrive via the waiver wire.
August 30th, 2022 at 11:53 pm
Passing, you know this roster pretty well I presume. Same as me and a lot of others who post here. But if you closely scrutinized the rosters of the other 31 teams, it’s safe to say you would have as many questions if not more. The way I see it, the suits and the coaches know more than I do. If they make a decision I don’t like I have to assume they have a good reason for it. We all have our favorite players and our concerns. Certainly I do. But I find it unnecessarily stressful to worry about roster decisions made by professionals on my football team. You have a right to vent like all of us, but I’m not sure what the value is in stressing out about it.
August 31st, 2022 at 12:14 am
Steven007, I view this roster from the perspective of a one-season, “win now” time horizon. Every roster in the league has rookie and second year players in key roles or as starters. The difference is that all of those teams (even Green Bay) have longer windows and thus can take their time testing and developing players. It is imperative to deploy quality vets before that window slams shut. That’s the lens I use for evaluating the depth chart of this team, and until Licht can patch a few holes and buttress some weaknesses, those concerns are valid.
It’s great to have confidence in Licht, but I don’t confuse the presence of Licht as being an answer to the problems on this roster.

According to a report from NFL Media, the Vikings are trading Jesse Davis to the Steelers.
Minnesota will receive a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2025 draft in exchange for Davis.
Davis signed with the Vikings in March after spending his first five seasons with the Dolphins. Last year, he appeared in all 17 games with 16 starts for Miami, playing 92 percent of the team’s offensive snaps. He played nearly every offensive snaps for the Dolphins since 2018.
The Steelers had reportedly cut offensive linemen Joe Haeg and John Leglue, so acquiring Davis gives the team some different depth.
August 31st, 2022 at 1:39 am
They gave them a pick in yr 2025 lol..we can do better and should be to fix these holes….
The oline dies matter…it’s a qb who throws from the pocket he need 3 to 4 seconds at best..2.5 on average..
Don’t be pig headed get him a lg to protect him.
No need to put 2 guys on the oline with no exp.
Anyone here wanna watch brady get smeared n fustrated.
Anyone ready for a Gabbie lead offense.
Anyone wanna find out if Trask has it yet?
Then package the fn picks n get us a beast lg someone who considered a steal…
I’ll take smith, beast trade, hainsey till Jensen back, mason; wirf.wire..
And rest the clowns as back ups learning the job in practice.
I was ok with stennie but he’s done n looked bad when playing.
Godeke is not ready..arrogance will be the only reason he’s out there..
You can’t tell me a 1st rd pick that will be pretty much the worth of 2nd round pick is not worth a beast lg..do it..get it done..stop playing with me.
August 31st, 2022 at 1:40 am
I’m afraid I agree with GOB. OL is what it is going to be, dinged up as it is. No amount of underperformance dissuades JAG/in-house from starting jobs. Barring miracles—Ereck Flowers, Tretter, trade etc. They might reluctantly dredge up another “guy we know well” like Donell Stanley, and still push Hainsey/Leverett out there. If I’m Brady, I am sweating heavily and getting the medical staff ready for trouble.
I concur with PassingThru. If this is “win now”, lower your expectations.
The Logan Ryan move will remain a thorn until it is over, and even so, it’s bad. No reason the brains of the defense had to be the cut, instead of numerous inferior names on the roster. There is plenty of room for this move to backfire.
August 31st, 2022 at 1:51 am
@MarineBuc
As to your Leatherwood question about if all of his penalties and sacks given up was one year or career stats?
The answer is yes to both. Solve that riddle.
He’s one of the bigger busts in NFL history. How many 1st round picks get released after one season due to poor performance? Not many if any ever in recent times.
August 31st, 2022 at 1:53 am
can we just bring back jeff faine already…
he’s ready
🙂
August 31st, 2022 at 1:55 am
@Steele
The Logan Ryan release details were all layed out the moment the front office and he agreed to it. It’s just another clever way to circumvent the NFL rules.
Nothing is going to backfire.
August 31st, 2022 at 1:56 am
Everyone’s assuming that the Logan Ryan cut was for Jensen.
But if “nobody can diagnose Jensen because one month later, he’s still so swollen that we don’t know anything”, then upon what are they basing their decision?
August 31st, 2022 at 1:56 am
@Adam
Now there was a waste of free agency money.
August 31st, 2022 at 2:27 am
The Bucs were purposely dragging their feet on Jensen diagnosis. If Jensen is put on IR prior to today, he’s lost for the season. If they put him on IR later today or after, he can play again later this year.
August 31st, 2022 at 7:00 am
analytics could have predicted the Bucs OL line injuries. We were so safe for so long, with almost NO injuries for what two years? more? eventually your going to have a regression to the mean average.
People don’t understand analytics. If you toss a coin 1000 times, you will get about 500 heads and 500 tails, more or less.
But if you toss a coin 10 times, there is a greater chance of variance. you could have 9 heads and 1 tails.
you can best bet over the next 20 flips you will have more tails than heads. But id doesnt guarantee that flip #11 won’t be heads! This is how you make money in Daily fantasy! but Bucswise, this bad luck was overdue. hope its over.

^^^^^^
Jensen had 4 penalties for 45 yards in 2021. So, no.
August 31st, 2022 at 10:42 am
Only hole on this team, is a Veteran Guard to challenge Goedeke
August 31st, 2022 at 10:45 am
Julio would look better in #15, #18, or #19. Eager to see if he switches from #85
August 31st, 2022 at 11:22 am
@nick houllis
Each coin flip is an independent event, with a 50% chance of either heads or tails outcome. Where your argument makes sense (unfortunately) springs back to draft night two years ago: Both Buc OTs were studies in good health, but that doesn’t mean you skimp on the backups as all independent outcomes drift towards the mean. Joe Haeg left, and though he isn’t a world-class backup, there was a hole in the roster. I advocated two actions for the second round: draft a CB (position with the greatest deficit of talent and depth), or a swing OT (fills the vacancy, plus the OT talent on the board was unusually deep in the late second round). Either could have helped the Bucs last season. Unfortunately, neither position was addressed.
