Todd Bowles Addresses Leadership Without Tom Brady
August 14th, 2022Without legendary Tom Brady in the house last night, the guy who raises every teammate’s game, how did the Bucs fare when it comes to leadership?
Joe asked head coach Todd Bowles today.
Was there a leadership void, Coach? And if so, who stepped up to fill it?
“No. I thought the guys did a great job,” Bowles said. “With the vets not playing on the sideline, there was a lot of coaching going on. Blaine’s a leader; [Gabbert] led the offense very well. Gio [Bernard] is a leader. He did a good job. And [Robert] Hainsey is stepping up being a leader being on the offensive side of the ball.
“I thought [edge rusher Anthony] Nelson and [linebacker] K.J. [Britt] did a very good job defensively. But there was a lot of coaching on the sidelines from the guys that didn’t play, so I didn’t feel that void.”
Joe is glad Bowles named names, and the names are interesting choices.
Hopefully, the Bucs won’t have to get used to gamedays without The Goat.

Thought Russell, and the kid from Rutgers played well at LB. Stuart didn’t look good at all, and now pulling a hammy might not make the team. The other two if they can contribute on STs might be keepers. There’s so many other vet leaders on this team brady’s absence is being way over blown. Whether offense, or defense vets on the sidelines were doing an excellent job coaching up the youngsters.

I saw Julio coaching up Scotty Miller, Johnson and Darden. and I saw Mike Evans coaching up someone but I couldn’t see who it was.

If vacation Brady was really a leader then why didn’t he hire the other starters as extras in his movie? From now on it’s aloof and selfish Brady/sarc

Britt did look good. Yah nelson is a big dude. Had a good game for sure
That matt araiza Bills punted 82 yards in first preseason game. Our guy kicks it out of bounds on kick off. Not sure that draft move will play off for us.

Tom has been on a 10 Ayahuasca retreat

hodad, stuart is a special teams warrior. im pretty sure he does make the team?
I forgot what team you coach for?

I’m surprised they remembered how to put on their uniforms and cut their food without Tom Brady.
Get a grip.

Mod@ 5-12 without him. Someone has to lead the band.

Kyle, not if he can’t run. He has to be out there.

If Brady hadn’t looked absolutely miserable at camp, the absence would be less problematic. He’s acting like he’s an indentured servant or something. Most vets absolutely despise training camp, not Brady. It’s fair to question where his head is at. Now that we know it isn’t a family health issue, it looks even worse. Apparently he made a commitment during his fake retirement, that he either couldn’t, or didn’t want to get out of. Yes, GOB is openly questioning his focus and commitment.

We passed on the Punt God.
Araiza is already one of the greatest punters of all time.
Hes a freak.
And a lefty!!

Really loved the way our offense moved the ball. There is a lot of confidence on that side of the ball. It says a lot when even your 2nd-3rd string guys bring an air of confidence.
Reminds me in a way of those great Tampa 2 Defenses where even the backups in a preseason would dominate.

Seems like this was a test to see how things would work without Brady. Hate to say it but this was a smart thing to do, a dry run for what to expect next year!
August 14th, 2022 at 3:39 pm
His heart is not in it
He is just seeing if the Bucs are good enough to fly own their own
Gisele hates Tampa

If this team crumbles and has no leadership because Brady is gone for 10-days, then you need to fire the coaches and cut everyone, because that’s a gutless team. Also what kind of limp wristed cup cake needs leadership from another man anyways? Your ‘leadership’ is your paycheck, that says everything you need to know about why you had better show up and do the best job possible, because Burger King doesn’t pay 6, 7 or 8-figures.

RodMunch is right. TB12 isn’t the HC. He shouldn’t need to “set the tone”. Frankly, it should be the other way around. Team should be completely secure and a machine that a soon-retired old man should easily manage without anxiety and heroics.

SB~LV, I concur. He’s behaving like he did his last year in NE, but worse. Super G absolutely hated living in Brookline. She probably hates Tampa a little less, but wants to be in Miami with the beautiful people.

Rod, before Brady arrived, this franchise was as rudderless as a schooner in drake’s passage. Unless of course you consider 7-9 stability. Teams need leadership, and yes grown ass men are included. They have captains for a reason. Not everyone can lead, no matter how much they make. Plenty of guys are happy to simply cash checks, and could care less about winning.

This is some good discussion, lads. Refreshing.

Read a few reports (hope they are wrong) that this time away for Brady is marital issues. One report is Giselle wants him retired. This could be really bad. I hope those reports are wrong.

NFL players get paid the big money not to compete but to win.
August 14th, 2022 at 6:46 pm
Compared to when brady first got here the part thats off is not wanting to be here and put in the extra reps with new guys like rudolph , jones, gage, rookie tight ends, etc. definitely concerning

Delilah had Samson’s hair cut and he lost his invinciblility.

Arn, who the hell knows. I’m frustrated with the lack of info. They are both global superstars. You’d think someone could cough up some Intel. Like SB~LV said, she hates Tampa, almost as much as she hated Brookline. People that famous, almost never stay together until the end. At this point, nothing would surprise GOB. If he did pick football over his marriage, it’s kind of sad.
August 14th, 2022 at 8:53 pm
If this wasn;t settled between the two of them and it really is a mandate from Geezella, that is an enormous screw job to the Bucs, who could have gotten another top flight QB instead of the dregs of the earth we have, Especially after recruiting Jensen, Shaq Mason, Gage, Julio, getting Lenny back, Logan Ryan, Keanu Neil, Carlton Davis…….
Whelp, we’ll see. Meanwhile, Mike Glennon is unsigned. (s a r c a s m)

Upon further review — I trust Tom will be back. The same media flamehards that cause all kinds of other trouble are all over this one as “their divorce is final” — which means that it isn’t at all.
Relax, lads and lassies.

GF, maybe you’re right. I don’t grocery shop, I leave that to Mrs. GOB. has anyone seen the inquirer? They’re always all over this stuff. You can’t tell me some tabloid rag hasn’t picked this up yet. What’s the other one, the Sun? Time for Joe to dig out the big guns and get to the bottom. If you need to call in a favor, now would be the time.
August 14th, 2022 at 11:21 pm
GOB — the ‘bloids have it all, joe copied one into a Cup of Joe morning post a day or two ago. If she leaves Tom I’d say he’s better off, and I’m sure some snowflake will take offense for me calling out the $600 milion woman who can’t get any help for their family and must have Tom as a house husband.
I mean, thank god Can Newton is still on the street. (s a r c a s m)

Either Brady takes the time off or he doesn’t play this year. It’s a good compromise. So stop worrying about Brady. He’ll be more than ready when the season starts. GOBUCS!
August 15th, 2022 at 7:34 am
I see a lot of posters are getting on. Giselle, did it ever occur to any of you that she’s rode this roller coaster for the last 5-7 years? He’s accomplished everything, his kids are still young and she’s like WTF Tommy, AGAIN? On the other hand, don’t you think she was in the conversation before he came out of his retirement. My guess is he wanted to play his final season in Miami with Payton as the coach, shove it up Belichick’s arse twice and make Shaun McDermott and Josh Allen shat themselves. Now reality set in, Jenson gone and he is forced to be a Buc, NOT where he wanted to sing his swan song. GOB, indentured servant?? Do you teach middle school history?
August 15th, 2022 at 7:55 am
Brady will probably sign a 2 to 3 year deal with Miami and partial ownership.
August 15th, 2022 at 10:10 am
Brady missing so much of the preseason has no logic to it except for some very serious personal stuff. Totally unlike Tom’s history. Got to be very serious. No joy in Bradyworld?
