Todd Bowles: Starters Will Play Against Colts On Aug. 27

August 14th, 2022

Mike Evans chatting on the sidelines last night with Tom Brady training guru Alex Guerrero.

Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles was peppered with questions by local media today and one had to do with the next steps in the final two preseason games.

Tampa Bay rested 29 players last night against Miami last night but the number will be less in Tennessee or Saturday night.

The Bucs travel to Nashville on Tuesday for morning practices on Wednesday and Thursday with the Titans. Then they have Friday off before a preseason game on Saturday night.

Still, it won’t be until the following Saturday in Indianapolis that the starters will come out in force on the field. Bowles said the first team definitely will get work against the Colts.

Joe gets it, but it almost feels a little odd to bring on the A-team in a dome on turf, which often is a less friendly surface when it comes to injuries.

Regardless, the bubble wrap must come off at some point, though the Rams never play starters in preseason. And the Indianapolis game should be the preseason debut of vacationing Tom Brady.

Joe wants the first team playing ASAP to make sure Trask doesn’t have another great game.

    NOOOO!!!!!

  3. Bucs Win Says:

Great game??? Lol you have ver low standards dude.

  4. Wild Bill Says:

Haha Fishman. Trask showed way more than expected! Griffen is gone for sure.

  5. tampafishman Says:

Actually, Joe and the Haters should WANT Trask to play and succeed this preseason. That would increase his trade value, which is what Joe and the Haters would like to see – Trask traded. No need to make up things regarding Joe. THank you. –Joe
Perhaps to Chicago for Justin Fields, who totally sucked last season, but who is “athletic” like JameiFSU was.🤣

  6. Bucsfan13 Says:

It was good to see Guerrero on the sidelines. I’m sure he’ll give Tom the lowdown. Maybe he should join the training staff because these hamstring issues that seem to plague this team is ridiculous

  7. Mark A Swygert Says:

Trask showed enough that you can be damn sure that if we expose him to waivers at any point there are teams that would scoop him up in a heartbeat. Maybe he will never be a top flight NFL starter, but if you don’t think he showed some potential last night then your standards are too frickin’ high. Most of his worst critics need to just admit it. They hate him because he’s a Gator.

  8. Beeej Says:

We didn’t get to the SB last year because many of our backups didn’t belong on the field. Looks like they’re trying to rectify that this year

  9. tampafishman Says:

    @Mark A Swygert

Bingo. Trask’s haters sucked up to JameiFSU for his 5 seasons with the Bucs. He came from the right school and had the right look.

Also, great point about other teams snapping up Trask. Actually, Joe and the Haters should WANT Trask to play and WANT him to play well, as it would increase his trade value, which is what the Haters want, Trask to be traded. They would love a trade to Chicago for Justin Fields, who in 12 games last season threw 7 TDs to 10 INTs, and got sacked 36 times despite being “athletic”, but has the look the Haters want in Tampa.

  10. Hodad Says:

We’ll see the starters, but I doubt for long. Think Trask should play the whole game next week, and they better get Geodeke ready for the opener. Leverett sucked out there.

NFLPA consistently ranks Lucas Stadiums FieldTurf the best out of any of the stadiums playing with an artificial surface. FieldTurf is softer and less injury prone than other artificial surfaces.

  13. AbucAway Says:

Hey Joe, will you be on the road this week to give practice notes and pre season coverage from Tennessee?
Joe suspects that a member of JoeBucsFan world headquarters will be patrolling the sidelines. –Joe

  14. John Sinclear Says:

    Simply put:

    Kyle Trask
    Is up to the task.

  15. BucsfanFred Says:

Joebucsfan world headquarters is the back seat of ira’s red Ford Escort. Lol

  16. Anonymous Says:

    Tampa fisherman you smart

  17. BuccoBradyfan Says:

I said a lot of Brady influence in Kyle Trask Given an under another year under his belt and he may be ready to take over the team. I think it’s up to Trask keep working and he can make it happen. I lived in New England and watch Brady’s progression and I believe most of the game for quarterback is above the shoulder. I like trash can as a pic and still like him today.

  18. Bojim Says:

Decent outing for Trask. I hope to see even more next week

  19. JDStill Says:

I thought Trask did very well considering this was his first opportunity to play an extended amount of game time since he has been with the Bucs ,258 yards in three quarters is nothing to sneeze at and more playing time will do nothing but help , as to the kicking , if you have two excellent kickers and both are solid at less than 45 yards but over that one is good out to sixty and one cannot reach that distance and if in sixteen games you get two chances from that distance and your sixty yard kicker can hit just one out of three at that distance thats ten plus extra field goals a season , that’s at least 30 extra points per year and puts that much more pressure on opposing defenses and helps the offense that much more, just saying, and lastly my only real concern was the defensive backs , multiple times the Miami QB threw soft , rainbow passes , that were caught by Miami receivers without a single Buc defender even in the frame , that has got to improve.

  20. Oneilbuc Says:

I will like to see him with the starters because I’m tired of hearing about him playing with the scout team and how what he did last night don’t mean nothing because he wasn’t playing against the dolphins staring defense. It’s like if he plays well it doesn’t mean nothing because of the team he’s playing. But if he played bad it’s because he’s not a good quarterback . That’s thinking of a bad fan base and franchise.

  21. tampafishman Says:

    Oneilbuc,

The haters operate from delusion, not facts. Remember, without any facts to go on, they hated on Trask the second he was drated. Now, despite the factually solid performnace he put on last night – a 95.3 Passer Rating – they still hate him.

Facts simply don’t matter to the delusional. In fact, if Trask leads the Bucs to a Super Bowl win in 3 years, expect Joe’s first post to start with “Well, he had that bad practice week three years ago. We need to see how he does this summer in training camp!”

  22. Oneilbuc Says:

Tampafish. You ain’t lieing bro I just want us to have our first franchise quarterback . I’m tired of drafting quarterbacks and not developing them and then they keep blaming the quarterbacks. I’ve said it before Trask was the number one ranked quarterback in college in 2020 in every stat. That’s why I have confidence in Trask being a good quarterback. He also was the only quarterback that put up over 40 points against ALABAMA in 2020.I just wish Joe and the rest of the fan base get behind him and root for Trask to susessed so we can have our own quarterback that the bucs develop.

  23. Rod Munch Says:

Just go to 2 preseason games already, then 18 regular season games with 2 byes, giving us a 20-week season, and start the year the last weekend of August. With NFL Red Zone, having 2 byes isn’t nearly as bad as it was last time they did it in 1993 (I believe).

  24. Steven L. Benner Says:

Trask played great last night! Gabbert couldn’t seem to move the ball…he threw that one Touchdown but Trask definitely outplayed Gabbert. I think we should still give our Rookie kicker another chance- the dude kicked a 55 yard field goal!!! He missed that last Field Goal but the ball did hit the upright. Miami was desperate for a Win they took to extreme measures and their Coach iced our Kicker! That’s plays you do during a Season game not Preseason. Never liked that call it’s like a cheap shot for a Win. Worst of all our Head Coach Todd Bowles was smiling ear tp ear when the game was over!!! Hello Bro, we LOST!!! NOT enough pressure on the opposing Quarterback that’s our problem they get to ours and we let them run and throw everywhere! Defense needs to apply better pressure on the opposing Quarterback.

  25. HC Grover Says:

    Good clobber them.

  26. Allbuccedup Says:

Tom Brady will be a spectator against the Colts.

  27. DBS Says:

You dropped 1 preseason game and added a regular season game. Massive injuries. Now you want 18 games. How many players and rule changes to make up for that wave of injuries would you like?

  28. Goatfarmer Says:

Bubble wrap. Play the same roster as against Miami. There will be a QB nominated for MVP and a WR nominated for OPOTY. It will be fun but at least we won’t see any more needless injuries.
