Tyler Johnson Can See The Tom Brady Teaching In Kyle Trask
August 14th, 2022Tyler Johnson believes the Tom Brady influence was on display for Bucs reserve quarterback Kyle Trask last night.
In a 26-24 loss to the Dolphins, Trask did not get suffocated over and over by pressure situations. And Johnson believes Trask learned how to play under pressure from the master that is Brady.
“He’s learning, learning everything,” Johnson said of Trask. “I think with him, being able to be under [Tom] Brady” he’s learning bits and pieces.
One thing Johnson thinks Trask picked up from the master showed in the final drive, one that Trask engineered and should have been a game-winner but for a field goal attempt that hit the upright.
Under pressure situations, Brady never gets rattled. Ever. In the final drive, Johnson said he could tell Trask didn’t either.
“His poise, he was calm,” Johnson said of Trasks demeanor under pressure. “Everyone out there was calm. We go over those situations almost every day in practice and they were able to trust their training, trust their technique and just go out there and made plays.”
It’s great to learn the moment was not too big for Trask. If he can focus through the noise and pressure, the rest is simply execution.
A promising night from Trask.

Doubt there is a better QB coach than the GOAT.
August 14th, 2022 at 8:35 am
Great to hear, keep sponging in the knowledge from the master, and working hard to improve. This kid may have a shot and that’s great.
I went to the UF Homecoming game against Mizzou years ago, and Trask took over for Felipe Franks. I remember chiding my buddy (the gators fan), who is this “trash can” kid? But, to my surprise the kid stepped in and played solid thst game and down the stretch. Kyle Trask has been overlooked his entire careeer, but he still
Keeps working. I am excited for his prospects and think his patience/cool could be great for us.
Also happy to see TJ take over yesterday. He looked like a stud.

Trak did his job. Great final drive got 1st down on a 3rd & 6… Trask can play…

Brad Johnson 2.0…
Lets F’g Go Kyle!…

Kyle Trask = Will Grier

Too bad Aguayo II missed the kick.

Replace Joe on this site with Tyler Johnson. He seems a lot brighter, knowledgeable, and doesn’t hate.
August 14th, 2022 at 8:56 am
trask = aaron murray.. go dawgs!!

FUTURE JOE.COM COMMENTARY:
“The Bucs won Super Bowl LXIV last night with Kyle Trask completing 30 of 38 passes for 378 yards, 4 TDs and 1 INT, but with that bad week of training camp practice back in 2022, the jury is still out on Trask. Let’s see what he can do in this summer’s training camp.”
August 14th, 2022 at 8:58 am
He’s going to have to tune out all the haters too! Sadly, there seem to be more Seminoles fans than Bucs fans at this site.
August 14th, 2022 at 9:02 am
Finally we got to see Trask get significant playing time! And I really like what I saw. He played well enough to win the game. Dolphins got too many gift mistakes from no name Bucs players and Trask still gave the Bucs to win but the fg went bonk. Trask stands tall in the pocket and forget the claims he doesn’t have enough arm strength! He definitely surprised me. Perfect performance? No. But he definitely showed poise in the pocket and plenty of arm strength. He looked bigger than I expected and made some really nice throws. He could be number 2 qb this year.
August 14th, 2022 at 9:06 am
Encouraging last night
The more game reps the better
August 14th, 2022 at 9:10 am
A significant factor in Trask’s accuracy is his size. He is a true 6’5″, actually measuring 6’5″ + 1/8″ at his official NFL measurement (no “bumping up” his height from 6’4″). 6’5″ makes him as tall or taller than almost all NFL linemen. That gives him far better field vision than what the 6’1″ “athletic” quarterback has, you know, the type Trask haters like but who always suck.
August 14th, 2022 at 9:15 am
Is it too early to compare him to Peyton Manning ?
😎
August 14th, 2022 at 9:25 am
“SB~LV Says:
Is it too early to compare him to Peyton Manning ?”
Yes. Peyton Manning threw more INTs than TDs his first season. Trask hasn’t. 😎
August 14th, 2022 at 9:36 am
Payton Manning played against the first team, not future security guards, car salesmen and grocery baggers.
August 14th, 2022 at 9:38 am
Stop with the Peyton comparisons! Why do we have to go over the top and compare new players to the greats. Peyton is the greatest presnap QB in the game. Trask won’t reach that level of football IQ ever. Most QBs won’t. Just let Kyle be Kyle. He needs to beat out Gabbert for the backup this year. He just has to. Jordan Love sat his entire first year, and then became a backup the next year. Gabbert might start feeling the pressure. My guess is Blaine might ramp up his game. Once again, stop comparing unproven QBs to the greats. There will never be another Peyton Manning, just like there won’t be another Tom Brady.
The overtop praise of Trask by his fan boys is why Trask has some detractors. It hurts him that he went to FL because we have so many tribal FL college teams that can’t engage in any nuance discussions about Trask. I’m a lifelong Bucs fan and a Michigan alum, so I’m able to look at it from a more neutral point of view. I thought people overreacted to his bad practices, and people are now overreacting to this good preseason game. Let’s not crown him.
Last year Trask was bad in his first preseason game. This year we saw progress. That’s something good to see.
August 14th, 2022 at 9:51 am
Payton Manning also played WITH the first team. Don’t let that fact ever stop you from hatin’!
August 14th, 2022 at 10:05 am
Let Kyle cook.
August 14th, 2022 at 10:05 am
The only offensive starter who saw significant snaps (most of them did not see any) was the new center Hainsey. He played the entire first half I think. He clearly needs the reps so that was a good idea. I was impressed with how well the Bucs subs played for the most part. The Dolphins rested a lot of their starters and also looked like a real NFL team. What I mean is, I have watched dozens of preseason openers over the years and these games are usually filled with stupid penalties and sloppy play of all types. Sure both teams made occasional mistakes, but both teams looked like well-coached units that knew their business.
August 14th, 2022 at 10:14 am
Trask is the future. Glad to see him get some playing time. He’s only going to get better. GOBUCS!
August 14th, 2022 at 10:18 am
This was a practice game folks. Scrubs playing against scrubs to separate the men from the boys. Playing with and against “future dishwashers and and barmen” Trask, along with a number of other players showed that they belong in this league.
This is the main reason for preseason games. Not drinking the koolaid here but being objective, I see nothing that makes me think that Trask will not be a credible quarterback in this league.
I’m thrilled that he is being allowed to learn and acclimate to the NFL without being immediately thrown into the fire as I believe this practice has ruined many promising quarterbacks.
Seems to me that Some hall of fame quarterbacks struggled their first year after sitting behind the starter for a few years. Just saying it is too early to tell but I’m happy with what I’m seeing so far.
August 14th, 2022 at 10:34 am
Trask executed the offense, made good decisions, had good ball placement and had good accuracy on his downfield throws. Can’t ask for a much better game from him I would say. Way to go man!

Well, if we are being delusional:
What you forgot in this quote is that Trask had been sitting on the Bucs bench for 7 more years with only 92 regular season snaps. Trask only got into the game, after 3-time MVP Ryan Griffin was injured in the 2nd quarter. During that time, Griffin had completed 10 of 11 for 220 yds and 3 TDs. The 7 passing TDs in the Superbowl ranked 3rd to the Bucs Super Bowl victories the 2 years prior where they had 8 and 9 total passing TDs respectively. Head Coach Brian Leftwich is adding another chapter to his legacy as the greatest offensive mind that the NFL has ever seen.

gator fans are freaking drooling… i guess with trask, you have a reason for something to look forward to this fall… Go Dawgs!!!
The kid looked good!
August 14th, 2022 at 11:19 am
I am a ‘Cane and drooling over Trask
and you better be too
We need the next Buc QB and hopefully it is Trask
Of course there is NO hope in football
Luck yes !
August 14th, 2022 at 11:22 am
Thought Trask played ok outside of the bizarre couple minutes at the end of the first half. Let’s see how he does in the next game.
August 14th, 2022 at 12:23 pm
Not a Gator fan….not a Nole fan…..I’m a Buc fan and I root for all Bucs to succeed…….Trask may or may not be our future….but last night shows he has a futiure.
August 14th, 2022 at 1:02 pm
I really wonder how most of you would assess Kyle Trask if he graduated from somewhere far from the state of Florida.
August 14th, 2022 at 1:14 pm
You guys are really giving Joe the business today. A few even disrespectful. There’s no need for it.
I’m encouraged by Trask’s game last night. Kudos to the O-line for protecting him because when he stands in the pocket, he really stands. Flat footed. No need for happy feet, but geez Louise.
August 14th, 2022 at 1:26 pm
Any gator fan has seen those traits in Trask for years. It is top story si they just repeat it with a different voice.
Here’s the problem imo, and I love Trask.
Kyle runs his offense. It’s his and only his. Not the coaches. Not selfish but it just isn’t a running backs offense. He will try to run the coach’s offense and either messes up due to being annoyed or otherwise isn’t built that way.
So Trask has to be tge best or its the bench ir worse
Its a real gator thing, sorry, just had to say it!
August 14th, 2022 at 2:09 pm
Nope fan here rooting for Kyle…
August 14th, 2022 at 3:31 pm
Gotta laugh at all the haters. They’re pissed off that Trask performed well, netting a 95.3 passer rating. So, they keep bringing up that neither team played their starters.
But that works both ways. That means Trask did not have the supporting cast that Brady gets. That means he succeeded with less. Sounds like a winner to me.
And, of course, it Trask had played poorly, the haters would never say it was because his supporting cast was truck drivers and hamburger flippers. Nooo. It would be Trask played poorly because he sucks.
Haters are really stupid, aren’t they?
August 14th, 2022 at 4:37 pm
Trask is the man! Go Gators! Trask haters suck it!!
August 14th, 2022 at 4:53 pm
I’m not even convinced that Tom Brady could pick Trask out of a lineup. I doubt Tom has spent more than 2 minutes talking to him his entire time in Tampa. Why would the GOAT be spending a bunch of time with a 4th string QB? We already know he didn’t like having Jimmy G around, so why would Brady suddenly start training his replacement here? He’s got better things to be doing.
August 14th, 2022 at 4:59 pm
His challenge is his confidence
in himself. He is losing that dear in the headlights look. Last night he settled in and played well. He has good teachers, not critics, teachers. Another year behind Brady, Byron and Blaine and he will excel.
August 14th, 2022 at 5:18 pm
“Rod Munch Says: I’m not even convinced that Tom Brady could pick Trask out of a lineup.”
You keep repeating the same old tired cliches. First, nobody gives a crap what you are or are not convinced of. Second, nobody has ever tried to convince you of that. Third, no Bucs fan who is NOT blinded by hate believes Brady cannot pick out Trask from a lineup.
Grow up.

I’ve been researching Kyle this week because of all the attention he gets on this site. A long story short, the young man has been an underdog since high school. He has always fought to get on the field. There has always been one or two players that have been touted as better prospects, smarter, more gifted physically. When someone is doubted over and over their whole career you get the reaction he had last week. Sometimes the frustration is too hard to keep in so you see the head go down and the other negative stuff Joes were reporting from practices. We’ll I’m not a UF fan. I kinda hate the school for reasons not connected to sports. The way Kyle made it here. The adversity he’s faced to succeed every step of his career makes me think he’ll succeed for the Bucs. Perhaps providing that long term solution to our QB question mark
August 14th, 2022 at 6:05 pm
I’m sure it’s been said before, but in one of the next two preseason games, I’d like to see Trask run with the 1’s for at least a few possessions.
August 14th, 2022 at 9:27 pm
Trask would have been the first QB taken this year. So glad he gets to sit, watch and learn from the GOAT. Kyle will win a Super Bowl. Mark my words
August 15th, 2022 at 7:50 am
“Buccos Says: Kyle will win a Super Bowl. Mark my words.”
If Trask does, rest assured Joe will start his commentary with Trask’s bad week of practice in 2022 and how the jury is still out on Trask. 😝
August 15th, 2022 at 8:08 am
Never watch college football anymore. My Alma mater is Wisconsin. As a kid I hawked newspapers with the games lineups and then snuck in to sit on a grassy slope near the endzone and watch the games. Years later as a full time student I went to every home game. Knew most of the players because my future brother in law was a starter. Most of the team were Phi Delts, the wildest frat house there. Their parties were legendery! What I like about Trask is his size and cool demeanor. He stood tall in the pocket, showed zero fear, took some hits and kept on trucking. Read so many times where the Joe’s said he had a weak arm. Haha, that bs was obviously false by the throws in made early on. So he isn’t a gifted runner. Neither is Brady. He looked fearless, stood tall in the pocket and did not get rattled. Made some beautiful long throws. I got so used to the Joe’s rag on the kid my expectations were very low. What a pleasant surprise. Many a young qb has been destroyed by being thrown into the fire way too soon. Got to give the bucs credit for bringing him along slowly. He looked surprisingly well poised to me!
August 15th, 2022 at 4:38 pm
I hear ya wild bill joe sux on a lot of his views he’s just a gatorhater it seems
A) Joe doesn’t hate the Gators.
B) Joe simply shares what Trask is doing at practice and games and puts it into perspective. And Joe was glad the Bucs drafted Trask.
C) Joe can’t write worried about who gets offended. The site would be bad if that were the case.–Joe
August 15th, 2022 at 5:16 pm
This is Trask’s year! Quote me on it! Actually don’t quote me on it as I’m only joking lol.. the kid’s improving though it appears.
August 15th, 2022 at 6:10 pm
Bbro. Ira Kaufman is a Trask hater and he’s proven that Saturdays night after the game . That’s why Ira Kaufman podcast never brought up how good Trask done in college. This the second game in row Trask played well because of his last preseason game against the Texans last year and this one this year. But to call him Mike Glennon and disrespectful to Trask. I don’t believe nothing Ira Kaufman podcast say about Trask because they’re setting a narrative against Trask so I don’t believe none of there evaluation on Trask and hope the rest of the fan base would just look at the narratives against Trask and don’t take what they say with a grain salt !!
August 15th, 2022 at 8:28 pm
So much for Trask’s weak arm on the last drive of the game. I am all convinced as how it was missed by the some of so called NFL’s draft experts and media hype. Tylor Johnson is right on. The one might think TB was at the helm on the last drive of the game. I thought the game was over after the last holding call with a few seconds left in the game. I am not sure how Trask will play in the next two pre-season games but he gave all Bucs fans positive hope that we might actually have a qb to crown after TB. Sad thing is that he probably will not see a real game snap this season either due to TB on this roster. For that reason, coaches need to give him a few drives with the starters for in the next game before Brady comes back. Please keep Gabbert on the bench. No benefit in playing him. Trask needs to be qb2 no matter what happens in the next two games to have a slim chance to play in areal game before 2023 season.

Compare Trask with Mac Jones for similar strengths and weaknesses and “pocket quarterback”
perspective.
A Mac Jones’ “slam” was: shakey on the “Deep ball”-plays capability, but he greatly improved upon this aspect with game-experience; accuracy; arm strength; etc.
Yes, maybe a too small of a “sample size” right now with regard to Trask’s game-conditions-experience, but it seems to be a good baseline (Mac Jones) for comparing/predicting success as a future, starting-quarterback.
In other words, if Trask were to become the Buccaneers’ starter after The GOAT, it seems there’ll be a very similar look to the the offense situation as the Patriots are now working-with; but the Buccaneers won’t have to go on a major shopping spree like Belichick had to do, because there already exists a very strong core, receiver lineup, etc., for the Buccaneers.
