Luke Goedeke Needs To “Calm Down”
August 12th, 2022Rookie Bucs left guard hopeful Luke Goedeke is battling for a starting gig protecting Tom Brady following The Goat’s current vacation.
One important guy at One Buc Palace knows what Goedeke needs to do.
That’s head coach Todd Bowles, who told SiriusXM NFL Radio yesterday that Goedeke needs to chill.
“He needs a lot of work,” Bowles said of Goedeke. “It’s good for him to get the work and pick up different stunts in the passing game. We know he can do the running game. It’s just the over-aggressiveness in the passing game that a rookie naturally has that has to calm down in the field of play once you start playing.”
If you dial in on Goedeke at practice, it’s obvious that he’s one of the most aggressive players on the team. If there’s the early stages of a fight brewing, there’s a good chance it’s Goedeke. And that didn’t change against the Dolphins in joint practices.
The second-round pick is as advertised when it comes to his mentality and fire.
But as Bowles said, pass blocking requires a more balanced approach. Can Goedeke prove he has it in the next few weeks?

Let Jensen give him some hints on how to show that fire and commitment and stand up for your team without taking too many d@#n penalties!

Is it easier to calm down a fiesty player or ask a calm player to be fiesty?
Hopefully some time and reps will help our young stud guard.
I prefer fiesty, but smart. ๐
GO BUCS!!!

I love this report. Losing Jensen created a huge void, sounds like Goedeke could be the one to bring the energy. He still needs to beat out Stinnie.

Are they training him for center too?..

Arians has said something similar. Something like he would rather say “Whoa” than “Sic ’em.”

You can’t even play a little in this league if you can’t be a hugely consistent pass blocker. You just can’t let through clean shots at all!
I think right now, he looks like the least ready of any of this year’s draft class.

LOL, i love this….beast is a beast, dont contain him!

Put the young man into short-yardage situations and sick him on a few DT’s and after pancakes those guys, he can head up field and make bacon out of a few more LB’s.
Until he’s better at pass-pro, use him!!

I’m still uneasy about the LG position. The word on Goedeke was that he was better at run blocking rather than pass protection. I believe Stinnie and Leverett are ahead of him, taking more snaps with the first unit.

Too bad Jensen is not around to mentor him

Iโm gonna say NO.
Would love it if he did, but the communication part doesnโt happen except through experience.
I actually like the idea of Leverett winning the LG position so he is game ready as Hainseys backup too.
Plus they are close and both know the playbook.
BA said it best that MOST of the time you draft an O Lineman for the next coach.
If you really think about that, itโs about 3 years.

Music to my ears! I want guys on this team that we need to pull back, Not pushโฆ

Iโm sure he will get a ton of looks in tomorrows game

Remember the old days when a guy drafted in round 2 had to be ready to start in year 1 for us…. It’s pretty amazing that now we’ve developed talent that allows a guy like Goedeke to take a year to get his game down.

Will love it when Jensen & Goedeke can play together…..

He can be mean all he wants, but being mean does not always mean he is a bad azz.
Jensen is both Mean, and a Bad Azz.
Jensen is an accomplished Martial Artist, and a fight with him may mean a trip to a Hospital.
Jensen’s entire family are a family of Martial Artists, who compete in Martial Art Tournaments.
Not saying that Goedeke is a punk, or anything like that, but Ryan Jensen is at a whole other level, as far as fighting goes.
Tristan Wirfs is another true bad azz, who has a wrestling background.
I think Goedeke does too, and if so, that is a good thing.

I like Lichts track record when it comes to O linemen. If he doesn’t start right away it just shows we’re deep at the position. That’s a good thing. I’m glad he’s not being rushed, or has the pressure on him to start day one. Curious Joe, how has Hutchenson been looking?

It is good that Goedeke has a chip. Every Buc should have a big one. Be a nasty physical team instead of a finesse one.
It is not good that Goedeke “needs a lot of work”.
“Works in progress” should not be starting. Not if a soon-retiring Tom Brady is your QB.

Depth signings coming.
