First Improvement Offseason For Cameron Brate In Ages
August 3rd, 2022Back in April, veteran Bucs tight end Cameron Brate made a heck of a statement about his health.
He claimed this year was the first time he’d been healthy in an offseason in “like six years.” Not surprising, 2017 was Brate’s last special season, when he finished with 48 catches for 591 yards and six touchdowns. Since, Brate hasn’t approached the 12.3 yards per catch of that season.
Joe asked Brate to expand on what good health means for him now.
He said it’s been a blessing and he picked up golf again after years of not being able to play, but then Brate dove into the football side.
“Yeah it’s frustrating. Every offseason you’re hurt, you can’t really focus on your training. It’s more about recovering than it is like actually improving as a player,” Brate said. “So to have the whole offseason this year to focus on my body, focus on my game. I think it’s made a huge difference for me. I still feel great.”
Brate looks a little bigger and stronger on the field than in past offseasons, and Joe’s will say it’s more that just appearance after talking to Brate 1-on-1.
As Brate said, the NFL season is a war of attrition. So while Brate won’t be a featured option, he certainly could become one in a hurry, especially if Kyle Rudolph proves to be washed out.
