Get Your Money On Mike Evans — Fast!
July 6th, 2022As the Great GOB, the late great Chris Thomas, would say, you might want to call your short-term investment broker.
Of if you live in an enlightened state, just pull out your phone.
Per Matt Severance of Sportsline.com, no receiver at Ceasars sportsbook is taking more action than Mike Evans for the bet on who will lead the NFL in receiving yards this season.
With Tom Brady out of retirement but foot-rubbing Rob Gronkowski back into retirement… maybe … gamblers believe Evans is about to have the best stats in the league.
It’s possible Evans faces more double-teams early this season with Gronkowski gone and Chris Godwin perhaps landing on the physically unable to perform list while he rehabs from his torn ACL. That would sideline him the first six weeks of the season and leave newcomer Russell Gage as the No. 2 wideout.
Of course, Russell Gage is also a question mark. He suffered a mysterious injury during the spring and was unavailable to work with the team in minicamp. Even Tom Brady told Joe that that Gage has a lot of work to do to get on the same page as the greatest quarterback to step on the field.
Currently, per Severance, Evans is +2,000 to lead the NFL in receiving yards.
For gambling newbies, this means if you dropped $10 to bet on Evans to lead the NFL in receiving this season you would pocket $200 if Evans ends up on top; or a $100 bet would win $2,000.

Any chances for an extension for Mike coming soon? With the expected cap increases would adding 3 years 80 million be fair?

20 TD’s is a distinct possibility for Mike this year.
GO BUCS!!!!

Somebody in Vegas has been smoking the funny stuff again. Mike Evans was #23 among WRs in 2021 with 1,035 receiving yards (74 catches in 114 targets … 64.9%).
Cooper Kupp was #1 in 2021 with 1,947 receiving yards (145 catches in 192 targets … 75.5%). Kupp almost DOUBLED ME13’s number of catches on the season, partly because he had more targets, and partly because he had a much higher catch percentage. Even if Mike got substantially more targets in 2022, he’d still have to improve his catch percentage dramatically (over 10%) to be on a par with Kupp.
Even IF Kupp regresses (ya right), Mike would STILL need to move whoop the 21 other WRs who had more receiving yards than him in 2021. Fool’s bet.

Assuming Gronk and Godwin will indeed be out, teams are going to take away Evans. This isn’t a bet I’d take, even for only $10. However, with coverages rolled Evans’ way, what OTHER receiver will be left in single coverage? One of our receivers (had better) surprise us this year.
Would I wager Evans will get another 1K yards this year? Yep. I just highly doubt he will lead the NFL, and if he does, I’d be happy about it and happy to be wrong about it. 😉

What are the odds on Gronk unretiring?

Predicting the best season performers is always a crap shoot. ME13 has always faced double teams and rolling coverages, yet still produces. He is the premiere receiver on his team and currently does not have to compete with AB, Gronk, or CG for touches. Of course he is likely to have better production. The real question this season will be if Brady has the confidence in him to throw more of the 50/50 balls? I feel that is an underutilized aspect of his game in this offense’s iteration. Just as good as any other wager.

I would not take that bet. Never….ever has Tom Brady had a receiver lead the NFL in receiving yards. Not even Randy Moss in his monster 2007 year, he came up a few yards short of the top. Welker was top 5 a couple of times. Most of the time no one was even in the top 10. He distributes the ball around to too many guys. I don’t think that matters this year even if Godwin is out for awhile and Gage is a newbie. The other guys (other than the Rookies) have shown me enough that they can function and do what they need to do in the offense. No reason to panic and throw the ball to Mike Evans constantly.

No chance a Tom Brady receiver leads the league. He always finds the open receiver and often that’s the 2nd or 3rd option. It’s a sucker bet.

I’d take the bet, but with the extra attention, it’s doubtful Evans will lead the league. It’ll be Cupp, or Adams.

I agree with this one. I think Brady and Evans developed chemistry with everyone down towards the end of the season last year. I say watch out. I can see Iron Mike leading the League in yards and receptions this year.

Good call Joe! Live in CO and just laid $10 on M1k3 to lead the league! Currently +2500 on DraftKings so pays $250!! LFG!!

No way. He’ll be doubled early until Gage and Godwin can take the pressure off. Plus, I firmly believe Bowles is going to run a little more, not a lot, maybe 3-5 times more game to help the defense.
NoW I would take the bet on him leading in TDs and going over 1000 yards again… The latter should be easy

ME was the 4th option for a while…GRONK, AB, GODWIN then ME
Why do you think they were having to feed him in the last games of the year.
Some of you are seeing something else.
