DeSean Jackson: Mike Evans Is Second Best NFL Receiver
July 4th, 2022It’s the season of NFL lists, so why not one from former Bucs receiver and when-I-feel-like-it return man DeSean Jackson?
It’s certainly more interesting than the takes of boring-ass writers at major networks.
Jackson joined the I Am Athlete podcast recently and was pressed to name the five best NFL receivers. Shockingly, he didn’t include himself.
Here’s Jackson’s order:
- Davante Adams
- Mike Evans
- Stefon Diggs
- Tyreek Hill
- (tie) Justin Jefferson/Ja’Marr Chase/Cooper Kupp
Joe thinks it’s very special that Evans made Jackson’s list. He is so deserving. And for those who think Jackson is dissing Kupp because he’s bitter after playing with him last season in Los Angeles, the opposite is true. Jackson spoke at length about how Kupp is fantastic and is an underrated deep threat.
Joe likes the Bucs’ odds of having one receiver consistently thriving alongside Evans this season. That should be enough to take the offense a very long way, assuming Leonard Fournette has a strong all-around season.

Probably a fair assessment from DJ……Mike should be top 5 on everybody’s list.

LOL…we will see how special Davante Adams is WITHOUT Karen Rogers.

A more mature DJax was kind of captivating to listen to in this interview, I share his disdain of Donovan McNabb and like hearing him speak off the cuff about current WRs. Agree Mike belongs in the Top 5 and I personally think comparing him to younger, en vogue WRs is a disservice to Evans and unfair to those guys because none of them have the resume Mike has. There was drama between the original guys at I AM ATHLETE, but it spawned a rival pod with Crowder & Taylor creating THE PIVOT, which is equally dope in terms of getting former pro athletes speaking honestly

Did he put himself first? Hahaha

The best 3 receivers in NFL last year were Deebo Samuel, Cooper Kupp and Ja’Marr Chase if you go by stats and affect on team success.

LOL, what about Cooper Cupp ?
He not only caught game winning passes to get the Rams into the Playoffs, he caught the game winning pass against us, in the Super Bowl.

I’ve always had a problem in force ranking athletes, as in “who is the best.”
So much depends on the team around him, coaching, and the generation played.
It makes more sense to rank as “most elite” without picking one over another.
I’d rather hear “My Top 5/10” instead of ranked.

Truth, Cobraboy.

So at least Dooshawn doesn’t have envy bitterness against former WR teammates. He’s still a buttclown.

I really don’t like lists either, it’s all opinion. Some people get upset when their guys not there. Others get upset because it doesn’t go strictly by the statistics and so on.
The reality is Evans is one of the top receivers in the NFL. He’s extremely difficult to guard because of his size, he can go deep and he scores a ton of touchdowns. Many don’t view him like that because they look at some of these younger guys and Hill and just think speed speed speed. Evans has always been deceptively fast.

why so much djax on joe all of a sudden?

If we are talking the last five years, then it’s Mike in a landslide. Kupp was the second best “player” in the league last year, just behind Brady. Davante has only had two very good years and is easily one of the most over-hyped players in the game today.
1. Kupp (Hands down the best last year, Jackson is a moron and maybe worse…)
2. Chase (dude might be the best in 2022 and he is amazing)
3. Jefferson (Could have been even better with a better qb)
4. Mike (Resume speaks for itself)
5. Godwin (On fire before injury and I’m a homer, so sue me)

If both can stay healthy Evans and Brady will have a historic year!

I feel like any Buc fan who thinks Mike is a top 5 receiver only watches Bucs games.
We aren’t use to success as Buc fans so when we have a good player our fanbase tends to over value them and give them too much hype and it makes our fans seem like they have tunnel vision and don’t pay attention to the other great players in this league.

@Buczilla,
If you are talking about the last 5 years then Adams, Hill, Diggs, Kelce, Allen, Thomas and Hopkins were all more productive in terms of yards than Mike.
Over the last 5 years Evans has had only one great year. Last two years he’s been mostly a red zone threat.

Name me a team that would not take Mike as a starting WR?
July 5th, 2022 at 10:37 pm
It’s his top five, not what he believes you want to hear. The man is entitled to an opinion. And best doesn’t have to mean best stats it could be pure and simple ability. Put the best stats on another team with different QB and see if they still preform at the same level. Let’s see what tyreek hill numbers look like with Tua.
