Feeling For Chris Godwin
June 30th, 2022One of the greatest quarterback competitors in NFL history (not player, “competitor”), also a former Tom Brady teammate, served up a different and compelling take on the quitting of Antonio Brown last season.
It’s an angle Joe hadn’t considered. And it’s no surprise that it came from Doug Flutie, who was a 43-year-old backup quarterback to Brady during the 2005 season.
If you don’t know Flutie’s background, Joe will spare you the history lesson, but he was an 11th-round pick of the Bears in 1986. At 5-9 and 1/4-inch, he was deemed too short to play QB. He lasted 20 years in professional football.
Flutie’s reaction to Brown quitting against the Jets and doing jumping jacks to exit MetLife stadium was all about Chris Godwin. Yes, Chris Godwin.
Flutie, via the Flutie Flakescast on SiriusXM, was envisioning and projecting Godwin’s reaction and pain to Brown’s nonsense. In Flutie’s mind, it was absolutely killing Godwin to be the kind of competitor who would do anything to play through his injury — yet his teammate and fellow receiver quit at the most critical point in the season.
Joe thinks that’s a great take. Godwin may have been more frustrated by Brown — and angered — than anyone on the Bucs’ roster. Godwin blew his knee out in December and hasn’t been available to the media since.
Joe looks forward to hearing Godwin’s reaction/reflection to the Brown mess, which Joe believes was the critical blow to Tampa Bay’s Super Bowl dreams last season.

Pretty sure everyone was angry. AB is bipolar or whatever the hell people want to call it. Godwin has been a professional since day one. Not much to talk about.

I was all for the signing of AB – and that was by bad. He is a temperamental baby (*emphasis on mental) and only thinks of himself. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
As for Godwin, he is part of a bright future here in Tampa. AB is just an old and embarrassing headline of things gone sideways.

20 nillion dollar mistake.

AB was about a gifted a WR as I’ve ever watched. But a true, and very sad, head case. Hope he gets the proper psychiatric help he badly needs.
June 30th, 2022 at 2:46 pm
Flutie was more like 5-7. Casual Observer, is correct. AB and Randy Moss were the most gifted recievers I ever watched. Kinda funny how they were both head cases. The sideline blowup was probably a microcosm of events we haven’t even heard about. They kissed his butt all season, and he repaid his coaches and teammates by quitting. It’s actually a miracle it lasted as long as it did. We only got one game in NE, for 14 million.

Godwin is Pisces.
We are the sign of unconditional love and sacrifice.
Christ was a Pisces. Hence, the symbol of the fish for the first Arab and Middle Eastern Christians. (Jesus was an Arab too)
We are in the age of Pisces now. It started in 6 AD and will run until 2150.
Chris Godwin and Jesus Christ.
Pisces Kings of Love and Service!

AB is definitely Bipolar – I lived with one for over 40 years – just google Bipolar and you’ll know AB is Bipolar – his behavior exhibits classic bipolar behavior.
June 30th, 2022 at 2:56 pm
The critical blow to their SB chances was the rams game plan. That’s all. Brady has never needed a certain receiver to win it all and never will. Won’t win many playoff games giving up 30+ points

MAGA……we made Antonio great again…..and then he wasn’t.
June 30th, 2022 at 3:05 pm
Joe, I’ll never forget Flutie drop kicking an extra point for Bellicheat.

AB had me in awe last season prior to his breakdown. Truly. I came to understand why TB wanted him so badly. I don’t recall the opponent but I know that AB was triple… Not double, but triple covered and he caught the pass from TB. His spatial reasoning skills are hard to match. To make that catch he absolutely had to be in the right place at the right time. Tom saw where in time/space that was and threw the ball perfectly to AB whom not only saw but worked his way to that one spot … I’m still amazes AB. I hate he quit on is but I absolutely admire his spatial reasoning. Perfrction

Allen Lofton…My brother was bipolar and never took his pills. Went off tearing sh!t up in a very spritely manner all the time.
June 30th, 2022 at 3:28 pm
Antonio Brown is Simon Phoenix in real life lol
June 30th, 2022 at 3:37 pm
allen, I disagree. AB is just a bad seed. Blaming his behavior on mental illness is a cop out. Plenty of people live with bipolar disease, and don’t destroy everything they touch.
June 30th, 2022 at 4:02 pm
AB may be a bad seed, but that seed grew a Lombardi.
Unfortunately, that seed poisoned and killed a possible second Lombardi.
June 30th, 2022 at 4:19 pm
Here is the simple reason that AB did “jumping jacks” ….MONY, INCENTIVE MONEY ….he wasn’t being targeted so he got upset and Coach wanted him in the game which caused Coach to want to show he was in charge which turned out to be the wrong approach at that time!

I have enjoyed watching AB snatch defeat from victory throughout his career, sucks that we got a front row seat to his antics. We didnt need him to win the SB, and we surely did not need his baggage. He was the preferred receiver for Brady, and he turned his redemption story into reality drama. His folly only ages better with time. Will look forward to his continued antics. That money doesnt last forever, and even if he continues to stiff people on his bills, he eventually will run out of the ability to create it and keep all his enablers around.
CG isnt sweating his antics. Im sure he got to know that jackass long enough to not be surprised by his childish meltdowns.

Brady looks like the biggest fool in all of this. He invited AB into his home, and actually believed that his Tony Robbins/Alex Guerrero brain washing would work. It was for completely selfish reasons, not some altruistic endeavor on Brady’s part. Even AB realized that fact. Brady should’ve learned his lesson in NE. The Patriots had no choice but to cut AB, after the allegations. Bill Belichick would sign Charles Manson if he thought it meant wins. The fact that Brady allowed AB around his family a scary insight into his thought process. You can’t fix crazy.

Mental Illness is an Illness, that often makes the Mentally Ill person deny the fact they are mentally ill.
Sometimes, the mentally ill person must hit a bottom in their illness, before they seek help.
Ab has not hit his bottom yet, because if he had, he would have sought help for his illness.
I bet if he sought help, and apologized to the team, we might welcome him back!
IMHO, AB is the Randy Moss of 2022, by far the most physically gifted receiver in the NFL.
June 30th, 2022 at 7:06 pm
I still don’t buy the mental illness excuse. But, it is quite plausible that the repeated head trauma has made things worse for AB. He had it rough as a kid. You always carry that with you. Whatever the case, bottom for people with that kind of coin, doesn’t exists. See Layne Staley

AB mo bettah than Fonda and Friends.

Love Godwin. A great talent and teammate and a brother on and off the field. AB has talent but his personal problems, whatever they may be , ultimately destroy ALL his relationships. Tragic.

All the takes on AB are mostly coming from football fans like me. My daughter is in the mental health field and told me AB shows definite signs of bi-polar tendencies with acute schizophrenia. I showed her clips of interviews he had done over the years and anecdotal behaviors that lead to self destruction of his career. I also gave her the criminal stuff which has been escalating recently like his perverse behaviors to women and the increasing violence towards people. She said the severity of his disease would normally be treated with strong mood altering drugs. He couldn’t play football while taking this therapy. The fact that he has gotten away with this behavior goes to the leniency that top athletes and stars of music and screen are afforded. When he joined the Bucs mid year in 2020, he was praising the lord and Tom Brady then in 2021 when he became the last player brought back and with a meager “ prove it “ contract his ego and bi-polar personality took over. By the Jets game he had got into a fight over money with his caterer which led to the suspension for faking Covid vaccinations. It led to BA having to eat his words about zero tolerance for any AB mess ups. The Coach and player dynamic was beyond repair and the halftime blowup in New York was a precursor to AB screwing his teammates and himself of a deep playoff run. Could it have been different? Only the people pushing his buttons could have made a difference. AB was mentally damaged only a prudent action by coaches or management would have made a difference. For those who follow the team we had a front row seat to the drama but could only watch in distain as AB embarrassed us to the world.

One has nothing to do with the other. I’m sure Godwin was already frustrated knowing he couldn’t help the team. Brown thought he had leverage, but he didn’t. Good for Ariens, I’d rather lose a game than lose my teams respect. GOBUCS!

I just finished watching all the career Brady to Gronk touchdowns. Brady can win the Super Bowl without Gronk (amen from Atlanta Falcons?), but damn. Evans and Godwin are enough, with Lenny stepping up like LeGarrette Blount. This will be it for TB12. He won’t leave anything on the field this year.
July 2nd, 2022 at 10:08 pm
I agree that we didn’t need AB to win the Super Bowl. Tom Brady is crazy to allow that man to live in his home with his wife and children. Look at what AB was doing on the night before the Super Bowl. Sneaking a prostitute with Covid into his hotel room against all Covid protocol. Talk about a liability. I wouldn’t trust him to walk my dog much less live with me. We were lucky we got one Lombardi with that d-bag. There was no way we were getting two
