Leonard Fournette Respects Rachaad White Trying To Steal His Job
June 7th, 2022It’s been a month since Bucs rookie running back Rachaad White said publicly what most third-round picks keep to themselves when they arrive to a championship team.
White hopped on the The Jim Rome Show and told the world he’s planning to be the Buccaneers’ starting running back this season.
Leonard “Playoff Lenny” Fournette got word of that chatter and told local media today that he loves it. Playoff Lenny even had a big grin talking about how much he likes White and how he respects the approach completely.
“I seen people making a big deal he said he’s coming to start; that has to be your mindset,” Fournette said. “That was my mindset when I first came in. I respect it.”
Fournette said he met the rookie a couple of weeks ago and White was all over him for tips and insight on being great. “I’m working with him,” Fournette said.
This is exactly how it should be on a team with a healthy mentality.

In today’s NFL, you’re a happy back if you have a tag team partner to roll with. Less wear and tear on your body.

If he stays healthy, Lenny is hard to take off the field, especially for a rookie. I would love to see more two back sets, especially in the shotgun. Nobody uses a full back anymore, so I think that’s the only way White gets significant time.

I love Lenny’s reaction to it! He should be coming in with that mindset.

Good tude, Lenny…….when you got the guaranteed bucks…you can play comfortably with a rookie coming after your job.

White may be exactly what the doctor ordered for our Team, and back who can not only catch, but can also hurt you badly with his speed.
I love his confidence in himself

I’m looking for big things out of White. He and Lenny together will be a powerful combo, along with Sneak is a heck of a committee. However with the emergence of White as a pass catcher I doubt Gio makes the final cut.

Wow – Great attitude by Playoff Lenny. Grown up a ton. Love to see it

Poorly worded headline. White is not trying to steal anything. He’s trying to ‘earn’ the starting job. Shouldn’t be the goal of any player coming to a new team?

I highly doubt Rachaad White takes Lenny’s job but could beat out Ke’Shawn Vaughn as the second RB.

I love Lenny, heard the whole thing. I love his closeness with Brady. Lenny might have 1000 yards receiving, if Gronk doesn’t play and Chris takes longer than hoped to return.

This guy is a beast

GF, Lenny went from balls bouncing off his helmet, to the most targeted back in football. He put in the work with the goat. You’re correct, they have a closeness about them that is special

Lenny’s attitude almost brought me to tears. I hope RW does well. He’s my favorite draft pick.

Lenny dealt with it a LOT better than Baker Mayfield

Lenny is a great back, last year, he was inspiring in the Rams playoff game and the Colts game–really awesome. I think there is more than enough room for Rachaad White to have a great rookie year also but trust has to be earned first and that takes time. Lenny is a team first player and has shown he can put this team on his back and make it happen.

All I care about is winning !! If the rookie is good enough to split time with Lenny then so be it as long as it works out for the team.. Go Bucs

Brady often says that football is a simple game, but difficult to execute (something like that).
You could say the same about a mentally-healthy locker room. The themes are simple – selflessness, hard work, trust, respect… but boy oh boy is it rare that the vast majority of players on a team follow execute these to the fullest. Survival instincts get in the way, as is human nature.
Sometimes I think that even so-so coordinators would succeed if the players all chose to buy in.
Think about Schiano… we’ll never really know how good his defensive schemes were because he was unable to get the players to buy in. For all we know, his X’s and O’s could have been amazing but it didn’t matter since he couldn’t get the players to listen.

If a player is showing up and their only goal is to make the team and be third string… They’re not going to last.
Every single person in any sport should have the mentality of starting and being great. Hell, that should be everyone’s mentality for whatever they do in life

I love this camaraderie shown publicly with Lenny and White. They will push each other to be the best each can be. This can ONLY be good for the Bucs.
LF: “You want my job? Bring it, rook.” If White beats out Lenny, it means more wins for our team, cuz we know what Lenny brings. Healthy (emphasis on healthy) competition will make each player better. Love this attitude so far.
