Big Name Tom Brady Doubter Emerges
May 27th, 2022Despite the only sign of Tom Brady’s football demise being his birth certificate, a giant of NFL media cannot seem to accept Brady staying atop his elite game this season.
Joe’s referring to chief NBC insider Peter King. But the irony for Joe here comes because King did not put this in writing when he evaluated and ranked the Bucs in his weekly Monday column this week.
No, King let the truth come out on The Rich Eisen Show after the column published.
King said it’s fine for everyone to enjoy Brady and assume he’ll keep playing at a high level, but King thinks the man undefeated against Father Team is ripe for a few losses.
“I just, at some point, you can’t continue to be transcendent,” King said of Brady while talking about why he’s skeptical of the Bucs. “And I don’t know when that is, and I’m not saying he’s going to take a huge step down.”
It’s fair to wonder if this is the year Brady starts to play a little closer to his age. But that exercise is highly problematic because there is zero evidence to point to that Brady is slipping.
It’s sort of like when former Bucs head coach Greg Schiano was confident Da’Quan Bowers would be a 10-sack guy in 2013. There was no evidence to back the theory.
May 27th, 2022 at 8:48 am
Brady really could probably play well until 50 as he already stated.
May 27th, 2022 at 8:54 am
If it were anyone else, I’d totally agree about the decline with age. And of course it’ll happen with Tom too. But for Tom, if he regresses this year, I don’t think it’ll be regressing in his ability to read coverages. I think if he does (at all) it’ll be physically. This is where the “if it were anyone else” comes in.
I don’t believe it’ll happen with Brady because of his TB12 system. Not only does it keep him fit and energetic (with the diet too), maybe more importantly it keeps him loose, which really helps prevent injuries to tendons and ligaments. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if in the coming years you hear of more and more athletes (not just NFL) following his system to prolong their careers.

Joe … ‘It’s sort of like when former Bucs head coach Greg Schiano was confident Da’Quan Bowers would be a 10-sack guy in 2013. There was no evidence to back the theory.’
Seems like any number of folks have said the same exact thing about several guys on our DLine like JTS, Nelson & Hall for this year. Nice ‘theory’ though. Re-sign Suh.

At this stage of his career, Tom Brady needs a great offensive line and to be surrounded with weapons. Hopefully the line holds up and stays healthy. If they do, Brady will be just fine.
May 27th, 2022 at 9:06 am
Has this mook ever been right about anything?
Peter King is the poster boy for sports bloviators.
May 27th, 2022 at 9:16 am
For Brady….it’s Grandfather Time…….Father Time for the rest of us….
I have 100% confidence that Brady will perform exceptionally well.
May 27th, 2022 at 9:20 am
Talking heads blather on. Being correct is not required, generating ratings is.
May 27th, 2022 at 9:23 am
They have literally been saying this for the last 5 years
I will bet on brady
The dude is mental. He cannot sleep when he looses a regular season game
He cares about his brand/ his legacy.
He would not play if it was like drew brees or peyton manning in their final days
And i know manning went out on top …but do you remember that season. His play was super ehh.
May 27th, 2022 at 9:24 am
Furthermore, underestimating Brady is stupid. He feeds on trash talkers and doubters alike.
May 27th, 2022 at 9:29 am
All the talking heads need something to talk about, and Brady is a great subject. There have been sports pundits every year that predict TB’s demise, and this year is no different. You’ve also got talking heads who predict he’ll have a great year. “Damn you Brady!” Let the man play and let’s see who’s right. I’m betting on Brady.
May 27th, 2022 at 9:33 am
Lazy. That’s such an easy thing to say. How many years has everyone been saying that since he hit 40? Course one year eventually it will stick.
May 27th, 2022 at 9:36 am
Let’s go Bucs!
The stars have aligned.
Bruce retired, Todd Bowles takes over, Brady’s health is there, along with the desire to play and more importantly the unwavering support of his family. I believe this is a year for the ages. Go Bucs, Bolts, Rays!
May 27th, 2022 at 10:16 am
@Bojim…You nailed it. Then King could gloat about guessing the downfall of the GOAT. If he is wrong then no harm since everyone else has been wrong also.
May 27th, 2022 at 10:18 am
I always remind fans, sometimes you can go to the bank to often for withdrawals. And then one day your account says, Overdrawn. People are like that too. They have given you their all and think they will never run out. Sometimes for sports players, it happens in one season. There is a devastating injury, or the skills lose a step or two. God help this team if Brady goes down. I can see Gabbert now with the cape on the 15th floor, Jumping..but he forgot his parachute. Just sayin….
May 27th, 2022 at 10:35 am
Someone relay this message to Brady. We need “Psycho Tom” this year. He’s already made note of McVay’s comment about him retiring. If Tom is still able to make certain throws, he’ll be fine. I want to see how he looks when he throws those deep out routes. If he’s late on those throws, it could be mean trouble. That’s a good indication on if he still has his football.
I must admit I’m a little worried, and that’s why we shouldn’t have him throw it 40x a game. I also think he should sit out the entire preseason. Rodgers and Stafford sat out the preseason and it worked for them. King could probably kiss his access to Brady this training camp.
May 27th, 2022 at 10:39 am
@Bird. You bring up an excellent point about Brees and Manning. Manning was Brady’s his longtime rival. No way he wants to go out looking as washed as Manning did his final season. I don’t think I could stand if Brady went out like my beloved Dan Marino.
May 27th, 2022 at 11:01 am
Brady is way too socially focused on Instagram and Twitter and making himself Jesus Christ. His work out routine in the offseason is non stop but not so much this year seems with FOX deal (opposite of family time retirement) and TB12, Subway commercials, golf tournaments, and softball with Gronkowski, who has yet to be signed.
“Golf requires goofy pants and a fat ass. You should talk to my accountant, huge ass.” Lol.
I don’t like the fact Brady didn’t at least attend a couple days of the voluntary workout. All the giants of NFL media easily had KC winning super bowl LV so we shall see.
May 27th, 2022 at 11:56 am
What could possibly go wrong with the USF Bulls Football Team with Da’Quan Bowers as your DL Coach?….lol! You can’t make this stuff up!
May 27th, 2022 at 12:10 pm
@Soebuc You’re really questioning Tom Brady’s work ethic? The most maniacal detail oriented player in the league. His creepy trainer basically lives with the guy. You do realize the man is allowed to have an off-season. The man is almost a damn billionaire. You really think he’s at home editing those videos on IG? He has a team working on all that stuff. Would you like for him to post videos of him throwing a football or watching game film? Would that make you feel better?
You do realize that he and Gronk were probably working out together considering Brady had his play wristband on. I say if Brady shows up fat and out of shape we run with Gabbert and Trask because they showed up for OTAs. Aaron Rodgers who’s traveling the world and playing golf should definitely lose his job to Jordan Love who’s working hard at OTAs.

This Peter King manufactures his thoughts as always reality – the bucs need to put a fist to his mouth
May 27th, 2022 at 12:35 pm
This crap started when Brady was in his mid thirties. His passer rating had declined steadily for three years in a row. He hadn’t won a Superbowl for ten years. Brady rededicate himself to the craft. The Patriots drafted Jimmy G. And belichick talked openly about his age and contract situation. Astoundingly, Brady became a better QB after his age 37 season. Anyone with working eyeballs, stoped the Brady in decline talk. Peter King likes to hear himself talk. He’s a self important blowhard, know-it-all
May 27th, 2022 at 12:45 pm
King is doing Brady a favor.
May 27th, 2022 at 12:47 pm
Next, King should chime that Brady, since coming back from retirement, has lost his competitive fire.
May 27th, 2022 at 1:45 pm
In the financial world. You do a math calculation called a DeMarker index. I bet the rays use it in baseball. The key sentence is that
A trend is your friend until it ends.
The DeMarker looks for volatility after the rate of improvement has burned down. So in English, it’s when a player past peak starts to get shaky more and more often. This trend is everywhere in nature. Such as composers. Authors, researchers., everywhere. Even joe one day many years from now.
No one, not even Peter King is saying anything. Except making sure the fire is lit. My guess is Brady has seen some volatility in himself hence the serious retirement preparation.
Licht is playing it perfect. Brady is motivated and will squeeze out what juice he can find.
May 27th, 2022 at 1:59 pm
I’m not worried Brady… I’m more worried about the defense! He will easily throw for over 40 touchdowns if stays healthy.
May 27th, 2022 at 2:23 pm
As a licensed GOAT watcher, I am a bit nervous. He is embracing celebrity as much as football these days. Tom vs Time? Man in the Arena? Not even retired and he’s celebrating his career. A new movie coming out. I can tell you this wouldn’t fly in New England. I’m not seeing “laser focus” these days. Maybe when the season starts, he flips the switch. But this is a Brady with some mixed priorities.
May 27th, 2022 at 3:54 pm
Goat watcher
Yeah, maybe.. but he’s earned it. 75% Brady is better than most in the league. Certainly better than anything we’ve ever had.
May 27th, 2022 at 4:25 pm
One of the reasons Brady can still play is because he can’t run. Always was a pocket QB and still is. He’s never had to transition his game. He just keeps getting better at being a pocket passer. GOBUCS!
May 27th, 2022 at 4:54 pm
Why are people still listening to Peter King? He is right about as often as a broken clock.
May 27th, 2022 at 9:25 pm
With their receivers, and Gronkowski coming back ( which he will ), and the pass protection of this O line, I do not see him dropping off. I can see him having 4600-5000 yards and 40+ touchdowns. The only reason the passing yards may be down a little is because Bowles might want Lenny & the rookie to run a little more. Little more time of possession should help the defense. Of course, Brady dumps it to the running backs or has wide receiver screens as part of the running game as well.
Regardless, like Joe said, there is nothing in his intellect or pocket movement or arm strength to show he’s going to have a drop off.
May 28th, 2022 at 2:02 am
Im more concerned about the saints then Bradys age. They are going to be a problem
May 28th, 2022 at 8:45 am
We are discussing, Brady, right ? Not a concern.
May 28th, 2022 at 9:36 am
Max Kellerman predicted Brady’s demise in 2016, he just passed the dunce hat to Peter King.
May 28th, 2022 at 11:32 am
Someday there will be a decline. And all of these tv personalities that started these predictions at age 30 will say “see, I told you”. However, that day is still far into the future.
May 28th, 2022 at 2:34 pm
@Bucsfan13- I was at that game. That Jags team was just too good. I hated to see Marino go out like that, but Jags are my #2 team so I loved the outcome.. Weren’t expecting them to put up 60 though.. Lol
May 28th, 2022 at 4:16 pm
It was so sad that rainy night at KC. Was it a MNF game? Brady played bad, really bad. Belichick benched him for Garappolo in the 2nd half. I thought way back then that Father Time had caught up with the GOAT. Wrong! He went on to win the SB that year. Every year since then I thought for sure time would finally catch Brady. Wrong again! But, it’s got to happen sometime. Time catches up to everyone. Hopefully not this year.
May 28th, 2022 at 5:08 pm
Pete King is just raising controversy like 1,000,000 other hack writers in this blogger world. He is trying to stay relevant. On the other hand Brady will pass for 5,150 yards, 46 TDS 14 Ints and get screwed for the second straight year and lose the MVP to Herbert or Burrow
May 28th, 2022 at 5:13 pm
The more I think about it, without tough schedule. We will be involved in a ton of close games or behind where he NEEDS to pass. So yeah 5,000 yards and 50 TDs is very realistic. No just an random prediction.
