Poor Quarterback Play Cost Cade Otton

It seems the Bucs took advantage of rotten college quarterbacks.
That’s the word from long-time NFL Films analyst Greg Cosell. In discussing the Bucs’ draft on the “Ross Tucker Football Podcast,” Cosell raved about defensive lineman Logan Hall, of course. But Cosell is high on two other Bucs draft picks. One is running back Rachaad White and the other is tight end Cade Otton.
Cosell believes Otton is a much better tight end than where he was drafted, which was the top of the fourth round. Cosell thinks — to the Bucs’ benefit and to Otton’s detriment — Otton’s numbers were way down because Washington’s quarterbacks were so awful.
“Cade Otton was a tight end who did not have big numbers,” Cosell said. “Their quarterback situation was not great this year. But I really like Cade Otton. I think there is so much there to unleash and unlock with that kid.
“But I think Cade Otton was a really good pick and a player that could really develop once he gets more reps in the NFL.”
Former Bucs defensive backs coach Jimmy Lake coached Washington the past few years but the program took a nosedive and Lake was fired not because he couldn’t develop good defenses — just look at all the drafted NFL players from Washington, including two Bucs first round picks, Vita Vea and Joe Tryon-Shoyinka. Lake was canned because his offenses were terrible of late.
So Cosell’s theory is interesting, and it’s very similar to what former Bucs tight end Anthony Becht shared: if Otton had any decent quarterback throwing him the ball, his numbers would have been better and as a result he would have been drafted sooner.
Joe sure hopes that is the case. For example: Quick! Name the quarterbacks throwing the ball to Bucs foot-rubbing tight end Rob Gronkowski at Arizona. Gronk was a second-round pick of the Belicheats. You see Joe’s point?

Otton reminds me of another Cameron Brate, but slightly more polished as a run blocker. Otton also has a bigger frame to put on some muscle weight. I highly doubt he will become another Gronk but could be better than Brate.

Ko kieft isn’t the answer , nor is he trying to be . He understands his role & what he was brought in for . Cade will be fine in training camp no need to rush the ankle

I’m not sure Kieft is going to be a TE as Gronk, Brate, & Otten are.
I suspect he will be more of a Patrick Hape-type, who spends a lot of time as H-Back or quasi-FB, or on a 8-man OL front.

Ko may have a Luke Stocker type role? His pass catching skills will soon be tested. He’s got the right attitude for whatever the Bucs ask of him.

This is the part of the off season where every player from top to bottom sounds good on paper.
Ppl yesterday were even discussing how Jalen Darden (a guy who can’t run 4 yards without tripping over himself) could potentially become the next Julian Edleman.
Once the pads come on and September rolls around many of these guys who were hyped up in the off-season will quickly fall behind and be forgotten about.

The knock-on Cade is he’s soft. He’s afraid to get hit.
He’ll find out what the N.F.L. stands for if that’s the case.

If he develops into a real consistent pass catching tight end that would be fantastic because this draft was not real big on tight ends but it’s become such an important part in the offenses.
On another note, I fully expect Gronkowski to sign
