CBS Prediction: Rob Gronkowski Will Make A Decision This Summer

So the closest thing the Bucs have to major drama is the decision of its future Hall of Fame tight end. Will he return to the team or give up football for good and run back to the squared circle of the WWE?
Foot-rubbing tight end Rob Gronkowski is constantly asked if he’s returning to Tampa Bay. And Gronk will continue to be asked this until he makes a decision.
Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports believes Gronk’s decision won’t be made before mandatory minicamp, which begins June 7.
Joe has heard the suggestion that it doesn’t feel like the Bucs are all-in for this year like they were the past two seasons.
Joe guesses one could say that. For example, if the Bucs were all-in like in 2020 and 2021, wouldn’t Gronk already have made his call? And if not, wouldn’t the Bucs have already found a top-shelf starter at tight end?
There is plenty of evidence that the Bucs are all-in this season, and the Bucs really did draft for need more than for the future. But Joe can understand how someone sees Gronk waffling and wonders if the guy really has his heart into playing this year, and if he doesn’t, why not adjust accordingly?
Joe guesses Gronk makes his decision in August. He doesn’t want to get beaten up in training camp and preseason. Joe doesn’t blame him one bit.

Agree with Dman. I understand Joe(s), that you’re gonna put up stories that generate clicks, but to me this is like the whole Arians/Brady power play stuff. Who cares? I guess some people do. But with Gronk, we’ll find out if he’s coming back when/if he comes back. Till then, I couldn’t care less. I wanna hear about the guys on the roster.

Bucsfan4ever … Don’t believe for a second that Gronk is washed up, but like you I’d ‘rather take Suh back’. No question in my mind that many if not most underestimate the importance of Suh to our DLine (and JPP also, although playing with a bum shoulder last year didn’t help anyone).
For those who can’t forget last season’s playoff loss to the Rams, check out the play-by-play to see what both Gronk & Suh did in that game. Gronk was on the field for 70 snaps (97%) and was 4-for-11 for 85 yds (we scored a total of 3 pts on drives in which he caught passes). Barely came off the field, but really not much of a direct impact on scoring IOW.
Suh in comparison was on the field for 48 snaps (67%) and had half a sack (shared with JPP), 3 QB knockdowns, 1 Hurry, 1 Forced Fumble, 6 Tackles (3 solo). Suh had as many QB Hits as the rest of the team COMBINED. That’s impact IMO.

Hmmm, Suh of next to Godwin whom by the way is injured, is Brady’s favorite target. Washed up, doubt it but this fickle thing is starting to wear on many. Can’t he just sign contingent to no camp? Or he just pulls a Strahan thing.

Gronk is washed up?
Dude missed 5 games and still had :
55 catches for 802 yards and 6 tds.
If he didnt get hurt he easily has over 1000 yards for a tight end.
Still with those stats and missing 5 games , you could still almost make the probowl at tight end
Dude can block chase young by himself
Do our fans even watch the games ?

The problem with Suh, and Gronk is they both probably want north of ten million to play. We can probably add a vet like Richardson for 3 million, and pick up another vet TE for about the same price. Being as we drafted 2 TE’s, and a DT I think that’s how the Bucs are looking at it.

The problem with Gronk is he passes and moans so much about getting beat up, DB’s and LB’s are throwing that extra shoulder in to get to him. They did in the past but now it’s just to rattle him.

Gronk probably sees what ole stone crab see’s. 10 million today could be worth 3 million tomorrow. With unchecked inflation soaring. So gronk wants to squeeze as much as he can in order to cover mañana😬

I don’t care when Gronk comes back but we need him back…..why?
Tom Brady is a different QB when he has Gronk in the game or even on the sidelines….He has a comfort level with Gronk that he doesn’t have with any other players……he has developed that comfort with Evans, Godwin & Lenny..

It doesn’t make any difference as to what Suh or Gronk wants to be paid. Its what the Bucs thinks they’re worth to the team.

I know a lot of people think training camp is unnecessary and beats the players up, but I think it’s necessary to get back into football shape. I worry that the attitude of not wanting to work carries over to the rest of the team. Makes us not ready for the start of the season.

The problem is if you lay down the cash for a FA TE (are there any?), you shut the door on Gronk’s return. We just don’t have the cash to sign a FA, Gronk and all of our rookies. Give him time. He’ll be back.

Gronk is by far the best TE free agent out there. The next best is Kyle Rudolph, and he isn’t worthy of holding Gronk’s cup.
In terms of cap money, Licht drafted a punter in the 4th round so that the team could potentially upgrade while releasing Succop. I did some back-of-the-envelope calculations; by releasing Succop it looks like there’s enough money to sign Gronk and the draftees, without much leftover.
The team could kick the can down the road by restructuring a contract or two, but I sense there’s a reluctance to mortgage the future.

But to Bucsfan4ever, for you to say that Gronk is washed up you must be watching the games in some parallel universe or smoking some extra-strength medical marijuana. Gronk played at a very high level last season and there is ZERO evidence he’s washed up.

Cobraboy is right. Let Gronk decide when he wants to prep himself up for this season. He just doesn’t want to get banged up in training camp, that’s all. And for all those who say Gronk is washed up .. Gronk is a freak of nature when healthy. Bet he can club all night and still catch for 100 the next day. Washed up my butt lol

Gronk already said he’s probably coming back (at the Tampa Barber shop) – but that he’s going to make Tom Brady wait just like TB made him and everyone wait to announce his return

Whatever the decision is, they have to proceed without him, while nervously hoping. Not a good position.
There are no good FA TEs left. Even if for a one-year band aid, who’s left? Kyle Rudolph? Eric Ebron? Tyler Kroft? Jesse James? Trade for someone?
They didn’t take a TE higher up in the draft. They didn’t go for a starting veteran TE at the start of free agency.
As long as the starting TE position is a question mark, it’s going to be revisited again next offseason if not sooner, unless Otton turns out to be Gronk 2.0.
