Bucs Invite Quarterback Aqeel Glass To Camp
May 4th, 2022Joe was intrigued when Hall of Fame cornerback Deion Sanders, now head coach at Jackson State University, publicly named 16 HBCU players that he believed should be drafted last week.
Would one of them land in Tampa?
Only two on Deion’s list were drafted (not by Tampa Bay), but the Bucs did sign one for rookie minicamp: Alabama A&M quarterback Aqeel Glass.
Glass might be the only arm in rookie camp. He’s 6-5, 215 pounds, and he was a five-year starter at Alabama A&M, courtesy of the extra COVID season of eligibility. The St. Louis native had a ton of college success and Buccaneers Ring of Honor member Doug Williams, the Super Bowl-winning quarterback, was all fired up that Tampa Bay signed him.
Joe sure hopes the Bucs found a gem. Glass wouldn’t be the first undrafted QB to find a home in the league.
Beyond blessed for this opportunity excited and ready to get to work #GoBucs

Threw for over 450 yards vs Deion’s Jackson State. Big guy with big arm
May 4th, 2022 at 2:18 pm
He’s got some good zip on the ball and great pocket awareness…i mean its against lesser quality players, but I like it. Who knows. Could be a future 3 as a backup that doesnt hit our money wall.
May 4th, 2022 at 2:20 pm
Could be our best qb aside from Brady
May 4th, 2022 at 2:21 pm
For a dude with such a strong arm, his touch passes are pretty, a tad scary to watch float but pretty nonetheless.
May 4th, 2022 at 2:26 pm
Watching his highlights, looks like a traditional college QB who has very little to no chance of making an NFL roster. His wind up is little long, the balls don’t have great velocity, and his running looks sluggish (looked it up, says he runs a 5.27 40, which is what it looked like on tape).
With that said he has NFL size, he can throw deep, stands in the pocket like a pro, but he’d have to really speed up his delivery to have a chance in the NFL. Not sure they’d even keep him around on the practice squad to try to fix the delivery, but if the kid wants any chance to ever be an NFL player, he should get a coach to help him fix that.

The lesser competition thing always intrigues me. I’m of the mind guys can either play in the league, or can’t. As we all know, unless the guy is blue chip, the QB is unbelievably hard to get right. Every NFL franchise passed over Brady many times.
May 4th, 2022 at 2:29 pm
Rod, the delivery can be fixed. Get him with Brady’s coach, Tommy House. Break him down, build him up.

—————-
I didn’t see that at all. He can throw deep, so he has a strong arm, but in my (very) limited viewing watching highlights, the passes were all pretty soft, I didn’t see any zip at all. Maybe there’s more stuff out there I didn’t see.
However if he did throw with zip, had a ton of success and had NFL size and an NFL arm, in a year with bad QB prospects, he’d certainly have been drafted, you’d think.
May 4th, 2022 at 2:34 pm
GOB – Yeah, I don’t disagree on being able fix the delivery, and at the same time you teach him to throw with a bit more velocity, he seems to have the arm strength to do that. The question is, would a team actually put in the time and use a roster spot to do it? If he has the money and could do it on his own, he might have a legit shot at making a practice squad, and from there could earn his way onto a team.
In any case, it’s a longshot, but best of luck to him.
May 4th, 2022 at 2:40 pm
Pretty cool story Joe, best wished to the Kid. Maybe he can shock the world.
May 4th, 2022 at 2:48 pm
Brady shocked the NFL at choice #199. Perhaps it’s an omen that he’s trying out for the Bucs.
May 4th, 2022 at 2:52 pm
maybe we can mold this guy to be good and dump blaine gabbert and ryan griffin
May 4th, 2022 at 2:54 pm
My former high school teammate was his OC at Alabama A&M. Kid can sling it.
May 4th, 2022 at 3:21 pm
Good luck Aqeel. I hope you’re the next Kurt Warner that no one knew about.
May 4th, 2022 at 3:22 pm
Offer to pay for the kid’s CDL licence so he can drive Joe’s UPS truck…..
May 4th, 2022 at 3:57 pm
Dump Gabbert and Griffin hopefully save some $
May 4th, 2022 at 4:27 pm
Had to sign someone to throw the ball in camp.
May 4th, 2022 at 4:45 pm
See what the kid’s got.
May 4th, 2022 at 4:46 pm
This intrigued the sh!t out of me too. You Joe(s) sure know how to hit the spot sometimes in your writings 👌
May 4th, 2022 at 5:13 pm
Haven’t seen him, so I’m not judging. However, how is his accuracy? That’s the single most important thing in a QB IMO.
May 4th, 2022 at 5:22 pm
I kind of agree with Rod Munch not a lot of zip on his passes. Kind of reminds me of Trask the way he throws and runs. He needs to learn how to whip his arm to up that velocity because pass anticipation is a lot quicker at the pro level and if you float passes like that you’re begging for some ints
May 4th, 2022 at 5:30 pm
Watched this kid the last couple of years, small conference but 2x SWAC offense player of the year, aside from the COVID year, threw for 3600/3500 yards and 32/36 TDs. I like him going forward than our two current backups (more upside) excluding Trask. Think about slow wind up and not fleet of foot, how bout the OC for the Bucs who played a few years in the league. This is why the NFL needs farm/feeder teams like all the other leagues
May 4th, 2022 at 5:55 pm
Well let’s see did y’all even go see any of Jackson state university Boys don’t think so
May 4th, 2022 at 5:56 pm
And bet let him go before he plays lol
May 4th, 2022 at 5:58 pm
Saw one scouting report that had him as a mid 3rd round grade. Projections of 3rd string. Starter abilities in the future. Who knows but that would be wild. Says he reads the whole field quickly as his highest selling point.
May 4th, 2022 at 7:15 pm
Maybe Lefty has a soft spot for the windup?
I wish the guy luck. You never know.

USFL is and the XFL will also be a place for some players at whatever position to get experience, iron out wrinkles so to speak- be it long delivery for a QB or whatever other players need. The NFL for the most part, is just not that patient for so many players that need develop to compete on the NFL level. So these spring leagues are at least for some a place they can refine their game and actually make it in the NFL. Hey even a back up in the NFL is making serious cash compared to normal life. So good for whoever can actually take advantage of this new opportunity that the spring leagues provide.
May 4th, 2022 at 8:02 pm
training camp bait.
May 4th, 2022 at 8:40 pm
Give the kid a chance. He may surprise everyone and make the roster as the #3 QB or land a spot on the practice squad.
May 4th, 2022 at 8:55 pm
Y’all didn’t even go to Jackson State University to check out any there boys did you didn’t think so
May 4th, 2022 at 9:28 pm
I don’t know why people LOVE to hate on someone who worked their azz off to get to this point. If he makes it that’s a great life story. But give anyone a chance before you talk about what he can’t do based on your options. Go Bucs
May 4th, 2022 at 9:37 pm
He’s got size and skills, but it’s not Alabama A&M.
May 4th, 2022 at 10:04 pm
byron leftwich was known for his quick release i’m sure they will coach the softball windup outta him.
May 4th, 2022 at 10:07 pm
Why the negative talk, this guy will get on a NFL practice field and it will come to pass if he makes it or not.
That is not Hate, that is reality for whoever steps on the field.
If he does not make it, at least now there is a Fox backed spring league option that was not there before for players. And Next year the XFL will be new option also.
Some will use that to get a foot in the door in the NFL. Glad there is opportunity available now players that was not before.
GO BUCS!!!!!!
May 4th, 2022 at 10:38 pm
Getting your name around the NFL circles by going to a team’s training camp and then taking all the advice to the USFL or XFL or LGBTQFL etc…. Seems like a good route for a lot of youngsters that don’t make a practice squad. Just not sure if any of these other leagues will end up sticking around.
May 5th, 2022 at 12:04 am
i guess traskie will be looking over his shoulder now…
we need a 5th quarterback like a hole in the head…
so this guy is competing for trask’s and grif’s spot
May 5th, 2022 at 3:25 am
Wouldn’t just be a blast if the kid beat out not only Trask, but guys like Mayfield and Gabert ….
May 5th, 2022 at 6:50 am
Yep the butthurts are out
May 5th, 2022 at 7:32 am
Best of luck to the kid. He has an opportunity that countless other college players won’t get this offseason, the chance to compete at the highest level. Best case for him, he proves himself worthy of a spot on an NFL roster. Worst case, he doesn’t make the grade, but will leave with stories to tell that anyone would love to have!
May 5th, 2022 at 7:57 am
Wow, so much love for this guy from a third rate program, compared to all the hate for Trask from a top program in the most competitive league. I wonder why? Can’t be the color of their skin, can it? 🤔
May 5th, 2022 at 8:43 am
Trask is a lot better player than him if they let Trask go Who Dat Nation will pick him up and give him the chance he needs
May 5th, 2022 at 10:15 am
Who cares what school he comes from. If the dude shows he’s got the talent to make it then give him a chance whether he’s drafted or undrafted.
KURT WARNER (Northern Iowa)
BEN ROETHLISBERGER (Miami Ohio)
STEVE MCNAIR (Alcorn St)
BRETT FAVRE (Southern Mississippi)
JEFF GARCIA (San Jose St)
Not just QBs but alot of other good players have come from smaller schools, too!
May 5th, 2022 at 10:39 am
No hate on Trask, just saying, he would provide competition for him, because Blaine and Ryan have no upside. Let’s face it, Trask played on a higher level of competition and also had more talent around him, but Glass showed consistency, getting better and he definitely has the size that BA, I mean BL likes
May 5th, 2022 at 12:51 pm
I really think I’d have more faith putting Glass in there right now over Griffin & Gabbert if it came down to it.
May 5th, 2022 at 12:52 pm
You’d have the three G’s battling it out.
GLASS
GABBERT
GRIFFIN
May 6th, 2022 at 5:23 pm
Don’t care what round or school you are from. All these young scholars are gonna have to put their big boy draws on .jerry Granville N.F.L. means not for long. Yep. But good fortune and blessings to each and every one.
May 6th, 2022 at 5:34 pm
Deacon Jones…..Walter Peyton…..Jerry Rice…..look at nfl film and read the record books …..just sayin…
May 7th, 2022 at 9:37 pm
WOW! THE LEVEL OF HATE FOR AQEEL GLASS IS MIND BOGGLING! MOST OF THE POSTERS MAKING COMMENTS HAVE NEVER SEEN HIM PLAY!
