Who Is Available Today?

April 30th, 2022

Bucs GM Jason Licht

The Bucs pick first in Round 4 to open today’s final day of the 2022 NFL Draft. So who might be the Bucs be looking at? Joe has ideas.

Perrion Winfrey, DT, Oklahoma: Winfrey is more of a run-stopper who is quick but has underrated pass-rushing skills. He often played nose tackle at Oklahoma but when he went to the Senior Bowl coaches had Winfrey line up in different positions in practices and the game and Winfrey turned into a total animal and dominated. Winfrey has the full endorsement of former Bucs Pro Bowler Gerald McCoy, who has watched him practice.

Tariq Woolen, CB, Texas-San Antonio: Woolen has a good combo of size (6-4) and speed, and he can play both zone and press coverage. Recruited to UTSA as a receiver, Woolen ran a 4.26 in the 40. Yes, you read that correctly. Speed kills, folks.

Cade Otton, TE, Washington: Big guy (6-5, 247) who was a four-year starter. Averaged 14.3 yards per catch as a junior. Last year a combination of a bum foot, missing two games due to COVID protocols and having godawful quarterbacks stunted his numbers.

Khalil Shakir, WR, Boise State: A speedster who gets good YAC and who can return punts and kicks on special teams. Ran a 4.43 in the 40. Averaged 121.5 yards a game in all-purpose yards. Excellent short burst. Effective in separation using change of speeds to catch defenders off-guard.

Coby Bryant, CB, Cincinnati: It’s rare to see the guy honored as the nation’s best defensive back still on the board in Round 4. But Bryant is there. He’s long in the mold of GM Jason Licht (6-1, 198 pounds) and he’s got a ton of experience as a four-year starter. Defenses came after him last season as he played opposite the top corner in the draft.

Joe’s curious who fans want to see the Bucs select today. Tampa Bay is on the clock starting at noon.

  1. Francisco Guzman Says:

Jalyn Davis a guy that’s flying under the radar at corner or McCollum . I hope they draft one of these two guys. They need cornerback depth.

  2. DBS Says:

Any CB that can tackle and not get roasted as much as SMB.

  3. TDTB2022 Says:

    Woolen, please!!!!

Make Dean and Bunting battle for a contract.

    Go Licht!!!

  4. Bucaroo Says:

Thank you, Mr. Licht, for looting the Jags! They are still crying in their Intuition Ale about how their late 1st round pick would have still been there at the beginning of the 2nd round. The Bucs can still get good value with the two 4th rounders, but all of the positions of need (CB, DL, TE) cannot be filled. Licht will have to scour the waiver wires as training camp progresses.

  5. westernbuc Says:

I’m not going to pretend I know any of these guys, but I would prioritize DB or WR or LB. Maybe DL/OL if there’s a real gem waiting. But my first preference would be to trade down

  6. HC Grover Says:

    My bet is Woolen.

  7. Casual Observer Says:

Better pick a TE. Even if Gronk comes back.. We are thin at that position and TEs seem quite prone to injuries. Like Gronk and Brate have suffered.

  8. dmatt Says:

Tariq Woolen plays hard and fast. He has great instincts n can tackle contrary to SMB, Cockrell, n JDean. We need cbs who can tackle.

  9. SKBucsFan Says:

I like Woolen. He is an experiment that could shape the future of CB’s. Very tall fast former receiver with poor hands that seiched to the opposite side of the ball to get a chance to play at the next level. How many of these guys never make it as a receiver but we insist in drafting 5’9″ corners? I suggested this to Jason Licht years ago. I can’t believe he didn’t listen to me. Lol

  10. SKBucsFan Says:

    Switched

  11. Marine Buc Says:

Tariq Woolen with the first 4th rnd pick.

Cade Otten with our second 4th rnd pick.

I would pretty happy with adding these two guys. Woolen is blazing fast and might be able to play FS as well as CB. Otten is not great but solid and would fill a spot of need…

  12. Francisco Guzman Says:

CB is needed this round. We need depth.

  13. SB~LV Says:

    Isaiah Likely

  14. David Says:

I would be good with any of them except I don’t want Winfrey.
A CB sounds great but so does a WR with a quick burst that can return punts.

If they don’t draft a wide receiver that’s capable of that, that tells me that they think Grayson and Johnson will step up and just MAYBE Darden will add a little muscle and step it up.

  15. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Would love to see us pick one of the CBs……

Todd Bowles is up for this pick……2 of our first 3 picks were offense….

And, don’t shoot me but…I’d love the punter with our last 4th round pick…..and he would save us $3-4 mil.

  16. Bucaroo Says:

The Bucs tend to (but not always) choose players that they interviewed (e.g., Luke Goedeke). Looking at the list of those players interviewed and comparing the Joe(s)’ list, I would guess either Winfrey (interviewed twice) or Otton. Tariq Woolen is really intriguing.

  17. Biff Barker Says:

It’s just too late for the Bucs to be trading down anymore. Grab the TE from Wisconsin and a CB.

We need someone to fill in for LVD too.

  18. Mike Says:

Those are some pretty good options available. I am sure they have a player in mind. They seem to have been pegging players they like and want and seeking them out pretty effectively in this draft. Not sure who they like here though. Maybe a trade back, as there’s still a lot of options.

  19. StickinUp4Centers Says:

I’m down with Winfrey. Woolen is intriguing, but I’d gamble on Zyon McCollum. From what I’ve read, and his combine stats, Woolen’s speed is more straight line, and has trouble changing direction. So I guess that speed is good to chase down all the receivers that get by. McCollum has similar speed, better change of direction, and ball skills. He had like 13 picks, albeit against small-school competition.

  20. Cchead Says:

McCollum, Woolen and Armor-Davis before Bryant. Bryant is slow af.

  21. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Hoping the Bucs to draft AL CB Josh Jobe or 6’8″ 380 OT Daniel Faalele.

  22. BUCman Says:

Cade Otten with first pick, Coby Bryant with second pick if he’s still there, otherwise PUNT GOD!

  23. Buczilla Says:

One of the corners for sure and Winfrey if Suh isn’t going to be re-signed.

  24. SKBucsFan Says:

I like Winfrey but at 6’4″ and “only” 290 he seems undersized for me as a DT. Thanks Vea, you made the position hard to fill now.

  25. Dogpile Says:

players play-coby bryant DB player of year for reason, speed kills, something he is missing, but has game speed.

  26. Mort Says:

TE Charlie Kolar from Iowa state

And then late in the fourth grab P Matt Araiza.

  27. acey Says:

I’m down for either Woolen or Bryant being the pick, but I really want to see a TE at some point in the 4th. Trade up if we gotta to land one we can count on. Winfrey seems like an absolute stud and great value here at the top of the 4th, but I don’t know if I could sit right with the move when our depth in other places is so weak. If we could trade down with someone like the Giants or Broncos to scoop up two picks and still land one of the corners, that seems like an outstanding move to me.

  28. Jaymiss Pick6 Again Says:

Jaymiss agrees 100% with Marine Buc.

  29. Cobraboy Says:

    Why not Matt Ariza?

Saves cap, and upgrades a real need.

  30. Oxycodoms Says:

Watching the draft on espn before bucs picked hall, booger said bucs might get winfrey here that was round 2 . Seems like great value

  31. Cobraboy Says:

    Araiza.

    Second 4th pick.

  32. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    A couple of thoughts:

For all those who lament the selection of Logan Hall…..keep in mind our 1st pick today is courtesy of Logan & the Jags….

Also…..fans would be a lot happier if they focused on who we picked instead of who we didn’t. (too many got away)

  33. Thisisouryear!! Says:

I’m hoping for Winfrey. I think with him, hall and vita we could have a dominating interior for years.

  34. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Tariq Woolen would be a good choice, IMHO.
He has an ideal combination of length and blazing speed, to cover these fast receivers of today.
I like Winfrey too, and will be happy if we get either one of these players.
There are still plenty of good players to be had, so one has to wonder if Licht will trade down today, and pick up more picks ?

  35. SB~LV Says:

These two picks are huge IF JL is rolling the bones hot in the 4th round. Sit tight and let the draft come to you .

  36. Bucco Bruce Says:

Also Bo Melton, Zyon McCollum, Brandon Smith to that list Joe.

  37. Winny Testaverde Says:

Any of those 5 ( minus a bum footed TE perhaps ) would be useful. Something tells me the plucky/cagey Licht won’t pick any of the above.

  38. Kalind Says:

    Could live w McCollum too

  39. Jp09 Says:

Some combo of Calvin Austin, Tariq Woolen, Cade Otton & Matt Ariza today would be awesome

  40. Cobraboy Says:

I suspect a CB, based on how two vets are FAs next year.

  41. Leopold Stotch Says:

Bryant. Ferguson. The edges from OU or Ohio state

  42. Leopold Stotch Says:

    Forgot smoke monday

  43. Perimeter Blocker Says:

As far as need I hope we get a TE. Although, if there is a player that they have rated way higher yield to your board…

  44. Tbbucs3 Says:

The Bucs should draft a QB today to compete with Trask for the future. Perhaps either Billy Zappee from Western Kentucky or Sam Howell if he’s available in the 4th or 5th round.

  45. Irishmist Says:

The prospect of playing with Brady should give us the pick of the litter of the undrafted tight ends and receivers. I would concentrate on defense with our draft picks.

  46. Casual Observer Says:

Mort – I like Kolar too. Maybe he will last until the 2nd. pick today. Underrated Tight End, imo.

  47. SB~LV Says:

Slow your roll peeps.. let’s not confuse Jason 🤓

  48. Jordan Says:

I like the corners available, ideally McCollum or the guy from Alabama. Not sure the kid from UTSA can fit our scheme and play enough man to man.

  49. Jeagan1999 Says:

I like Texas A&M TE Jalen Wydermeyer today. He didn’t test well at the combine, and not always the most disciplined route runner….but he is a natural hands catcher, very athletic and and good runner after the catch. A big, strong kid with good speed and productivity as a catcher and blocker. Let him learn from Gronk this year!

  50. BigMacAttack Says:

I think Licht is going LB next

  51. Bucs Guy Says:

CB with the first pick, Kolar 》Otton at TE with second 4th rd pick.

Smoke Monday Auburn S will be av available in the 7th. Ariza will go in the 6th. Maybe we can trade 2023 5th rd and both of our 7th rd picks for some team’s 6th and early 7th to get these two.

  52. Bird Says:

Corner zyon mccollum is there too

  53. OrlandoBucFan Says:

I vote for Winfrey. He would be a steal at this point and would give us great depth on the defensive line. Gholston only signed a one year deal and Suh, if we resign him, would probably be in his last year. Winfrey and Logan would be our future on the defensive line (along with Vea). I think we resign either Bunting or Dean and draft a stud CB next year along with an inside linebacker.

  54. OrlandoBucFan Says:

After some reflection, I would like to see us draft Charlie Kolar. He is a huge target with good hands and the size and strength to develop into a good blocker. I would be happy with Winfrey, but at this point, I see TE as a bigger need.

  55. SB~LV Says:

    TE
    Isaiah Likely

  56. Dman Says:

Winfrey with first pick RD4, Woolen or TE with second RD4 pick. Grab that punter if we can and then Smoke. All he does is knock the snot out of people.

  57. Buc king Says:

Tariq sounds like the one to me and next pick the dt from ok

  58. SB~LV Says:

    EXPLOSIVE WR

    Calvin Austin

  59. Colin in Canada Says:

Khalil Shakir from Boise State is a stud.

Akeleb Evans is a corner that met with the bucs a few times. Wouldn’t be surprised if we take him today. Go Bucs!

  60. Colin in Canada Says:

Also Cade Otton’s dad and grandfather are both legend coaches.

  61. Matt Says:

It better be Winfrey and Bryant or I think missing out on Wyatt wasn’t worth it. I like hall but Wyatt is a beast and had an extra year of team control.

  62. Beeej Says:

    4.2 40 for 6’4″ Woolen? I’m in

  63. Francisco Guzman Says:

I really hope they take a corner here to start the 4th round. McCollum or jaylin Davis plz!!!!

  64. Gettinthebucs Says:

Does woolen have bad hips for corner or something? Can’t believe a guy with those combine numbers is still on the board.

  65. SC. Bucs Fan Says:

    Penn State punter makes sense

  66. TampabayDJ82 Says:

As westernbucfan said , I don’t know anything about the rest of these players. I would definitely like to see them ad a good CB and a REAL Return man on special teams. I would also like to see them trade away the rest of their 6th and 7th round picks or even their 5th to get back into the 4th round and pick 3 quality players in the 4th round. I just don’t believe they hit any home runs with their first 3 players. They are good but they could have gotten the stud DT from Georgia and blew it. Go Bucs

  67. Oneilbuc Says:

DJ 82 . I agree 👍🏽 I think this defense is going to suck. Our GM can’t draft at all .
