“Bring Your Tractor To School Day”
April 30th, 2022Anyone has ever driven from Milwaukee to a game at Lambeau Field in Green Bay pretty much has an idea of the background of new Bucs guard Luke Goedeke.
Drafted late in the second round last night, Goedeke, who grew up 40 miles south of Green Bay, played at Central Michigan after transferring from Division III Wisconsin-Stephens Point where he was a walk-on tight end.
Goedeke was not recruited coming out of high school. He said in speaking with the Tampa Bay pen and mic club that a reason he wasn’t recruited is because his high school was only 350 students and well off the beaten path.
“We had ‘Bring Your Tractor to School Day.'” Goedeke said.
The guy just screams “Jason Licht” through and through. Licht always talks about how he likes offensive lineman “nasty” and “grimy,” and Goedeke used those words to describe himself and embraced the term “glass eater.”
Goedeke admitted that former Bucs guard Ali Marpet, a former Division-III player at Hobart College, is sort of a cult hero to guys from small schools and Marpet’s history with the Bucs gives those guys hope.
Goedeke could not contain his excitement when asked about blocking for Tom Brady. He admitted Brady is his favorite quarterback and whatever team he plays on is his favorite team. And then Goedeke confessed treason in the Land of Cheese, admitting the Packers are not his favorite NFL team.
“Growing up in Wisconsin, you’re supposed to root for the Packers somewhat,” Goekeke bravely said. “But I was a Patriots fan.”
And now, he’s not just a Bucs fan, but likely responsible for keeping Brady upright.

Packers suck.

So awesome! All of this is extremely encouraging and I look forward to watching this new Buccaneer kick ass, imagine him next to Ryan Jensen. LFG!!!!!!!!!!!Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Being drafted this high, and being traded up for on top of that, it seems Licht believes he should be able to beat out Stinnie for a starting guard spot in his rookie season.
I don’t include Hainsey because despite statements to the contrary, I’m certain the Bucs have plans for Hainsey as the heir to Ryan Jensen at center. They’ll let him practice and compete at guard, but I think that’s mainly for cross-training purposes and for emergency use in case of injury.
No, Nick Leverett is not a serious contender to start at guard, either. That’s just more talk to build up the competitive spirit in camp.
It will come down to Goedeke or Stinnie.

So out of morbid curiosity, I looked up specifically where our newest draftee/fellow Wisconsinite is from… Good ole Valders, Wisconsin! I’m coincidentally enough close by where he grew up, about a half hour away. So he may be my favorite draft pick so far now actually. Especially knowing that he also wasn’t/isn’t a stinky cheese head as well as I am. What a small world.

The kid is raw but give him a year in the system then he’ll be ready. At least we’re getting depth at the OL.
April 30th, 2022 at 5:31 am
He only played oline for two years right? Originally tight end.
So I agree he could take some time
But like the nasty streak. We have to many nice guys. We need some big nasties. Like the rams and saints when we play them. They are like the school bully / more physical. We need more jensens

FLBoyInDallas … ‘I’m certain the Bucs have plans for Hainsey as the heir to Ryan Jensen at center.’
Didn’t Jensen just sign a 3-year contract with us? Got a hunch that Hainsey (like Stinnie & Wells?) is viewed as the Swiss Army knife of OLinemen. In any event, Bucs now have FOUR candidates to start at LG.

DaBux … ‘At least we’re getting depth at the OL.’
Wish we could say the same about our DLine. And probably the rest of the defense for that matter.

This guy could have been picked up in the third round and Licht traded up for. I hope he works out.
April 30th, 2022 at 6:58 am
Should have traded up for the best TE, not a 3rd rd T who you want to convert to G and would have been there in the 3rd. Big over reach. How much will he see the field in 2022? Hope he works out and I trust JL — especially with OLine but this one is a head scratcher.

I like this pick. Since the Bucs season ended and since Marpet retired I have felt the Bucs needed to get younger on the defensive line and try to replace Marpet on Draft Night. They did both. Great job by the organization.

Licht does this all the time…….trades up 1-3 spots to pick a player……I don’t know if he has intel or if he simply gets nervous and want the player so bad he throws an extra pick away…
THat’s my only problem here……that 6th round pick wasn’t worthless…
As far as the player…..I have total faith in Licht’s judgement.

6th round is like the waiver wire…. its like whatever…

Oh yeah. This is rural with a capital R. Take your tractor to school day, school holiday first day of hunting season, and football stands made of 40 year old splintering and paint chipping white pine. The Watt boys know what that is like, as well.

A high school with 350 kids? That is a big rural High School for parts of Rural Wisconsin.

Very very happy with this pick

Nice story, but.. we would have been better off with Cook and Ruckert. I don’t see much impact from our last 4 early picks.

I respect the kid for being man enough to root for the Pats in Wisconsin. Packer fans are a proud and loud bunch.
April 30th, 2022 at 10:12 am
hopefully from day one we get a mean muggin un-showered mofo, who pulls up to the one buc parking lot on his john deere tractor, and slaps the fugg out of the first guy who says: “carry my pads rook”
April 30th, 2022 at 10:14 am
Didn’t he do 26 reps?
The boy is strong.
Excellent pick.

Based on the headline, I thought this was going to be an Auburn joke!

The concern with Goedeke is injuries. Missed the previous season. Got hurt recently.
