Todd Bowles Said Bucs Had Four Players On The Board They Wanted At No. 27

April 29th, 2022

Bucs coach Todd Bowles.

So let the speculation begin.

Bucs coach Todd Bowles, speaking after the Bucs selected Houston defensive lineman Logan Hall, said there were four players still on the board that were guys the Bucs “even” wanted at No. 27 — from where they traded down last night with Jacksonville. Clearly Hall was one of them.

It also appears Georgia defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt was one of the four, as Bowles was asked why trade down when Wyatt was available.

Bowles said the lure of obtaining all the draft picks from the Jags moved the Bucs to make the deal. Bowles said this gives the Bucs opportunities to address additional positions now.

Bowles said the key thing he likes about Hall is his hustle. He often can be seen chasing down ballcarriers. Bowles interviewed Hall at the combine (when Bowles was still the Bucs’ defensive coordinator) and had a secondary interview with him when Hall was one of the Bucs’ 30 in-house visits.

Wow… so it wasn’t ‘red flags’ the SJW’s keep barking about, it was literally the Bucs wanting to get an extra mid-4th rounder (and it is mid 4th rounder when you have 9 comp picks in front of the pick). That’s something. I hope it works out.

  2. SB~LV Says:

Hopefully that is true, we’ll never know.
It is what it is now

  3. SB~LV Says:

RM after you have been around a while you’ll be able to sniff out coach speak

  4. HC Grover Says:

Not bad. And not bad is good enough.

  5. Bucamania Says:

His hustle is what you like most about him. Okay then.

  6. adam from ny Says:

    a mid 4th rounder lol…

gotta hope it is just a toss in with #60 to bump up in the draft to like #44 right about now

  7. SKBucsFan Says:

Hopefully they can find a steal in the 4th. It’s been known to happen.

  8. DBS Says:

Our great college know it all will keep telling us no! They did not want Wyatt. He 8s in the boardroom. Knows for sure.

  9. DBS Says:

    is.

  10. SufferingSince76 Says:

You armchair talent evaluators are a riot.

  11. Dooley Says:

Great addition to our defensive rotation! Can’t wait to see how he fits in with the rest of our guys rotating on the defensive front

  12. Nicholas Carlson Says:

I like it! Can’t get enough firepower on the DL

  13. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I have been watching film on Logan since we picked him.
    I really like his Motor!
There are several examples of him running down running backs, well down the field!

  14. Rod Munch Says:

SufferingSince76 – it’s literally a fan website, just people giving their opinion and takes. Some of us actually have years and years and years of takes, and better records on those takes than the ‘pros’… meanwhile you got others who want a new RB every year, never learn from their mistakes. It’s a mix.

  15. New England Patriots Fan Says:

Unless they use that 106 to get back into the early third or late second then trade was a waste.

As could’ve traded up into second using 60 and a third to take Logan Hall and a guy at 27

  16. FortMyersDave Says:

Rod is right, its a fan website, based on about 90+% Bucs fans and your usual trolls who are infuriated that the Bucs are a good team and relevant. One thing of being a fan base is that we never agree on anything except wanting the Bucs to win. I am not too keen on the Logan Brown pick not because of the trade down to an early 4th round pick (#1 overall in the 4th is still in the first third of 4th round picks even when you add in the compensatory picks the NFL always gives the Cowboys and Patriots at the end of the 3rd round, yet the Bucs never got one higher than 4th but that is another story) because I feel CB is a much bigger need. The Bucs were thin there and got exposed by the Rams last year for this lack of depth. We can not count on TB12 putting up 35 every game to outscore the opponent.

And about early draft grades, they are BS. Everyone is giving the lowly Jets an A+ so far because they have picked what the East Coast pundits call 4 great players already including likely stealing the FSU product which Bowles likely was targeting. The Jets are more likely to be 4-12 and picking in the top 5 again next year than using this raw talent to turn the corner as the Jets are now the dumpster fire of the NFL: Cleveland 2017 East/Tampa 2014 North = the 2021 Jets.

  17. Big Marlon B Says:

@ FortMyersDave- damn dude….tell me who hurt you? Take a Valium and chill out

@Rod- do you honestly think Bowles is gonna sit there and dump on another player’s character? He’s a professional. He’s gonna try to highlight the positive of what they actually did, rather than dwell on the negatives of something they didn’t do. It’s pretty simple.

  18. BucfaninMi Says:

    Karloftis

  19. Eckwood Says:

Why not take the trade and have three second rounders in the 60s and then use the fourth and sixth to move up and target someone. Call I can’t say that you get haul but I can’t say that you get a second round pick in the high 40s a second round pick in the 50s and second round pick of the 60s which is way better than what the bus are going to end up with

  20. Buczilla Says:

I still think that Licht is the best gm in the league, but I’m baffled that we haven’t picked a corner. Who in their right mind looks at our mostly pathetic corners and says “naw we’re good here”. This draft has been nauseating as hell and I hope that I’m wrong, but so far this draft deserves an F and we deserve to get hammered again by both good and bad quarterbacks.

  21. Mike Johnson Says:

Looka here guys, Motivation, motor, hustle and heart is something you cannot teach. Logan has all of these. I believe this is an excellent pick.

  22. Esteban85 Says:

In Licht we trust. I have no idea what is a good pick and what isn’t, neither does anyone else. I do like beefing up the lines! Can’t do anything without the Hogmollies up front.

  23. Tony Says:

Don’t understand why they like players that have a history of serious injuries. This Goedeke has torn his ACL also. Had plenty of other OL they could’ve picked.

  24. Yucs2Bucs Says:

Jason’s ego definitely got in the way of this draft and haven’t seen grades that low in a long time, but the RB we got almost sounds like Ronald Jones 😳 can’t protect or block and the OL has health issues ? That trade was a joke and THEY TRADED OUT BECAUSE THEY DIDNT WANT TO PAY 1ST ROUND MONEY!!! How do you not address one of the biggest needs on the team and not get a CB ?? You can all say armchair all you want, but we all watched how bad they have been and will keep saying C DAVIS is maybe above average, but DEAN, SMB, and even CD are all injury prone and haven’t had a shutdown or physical corner since Ronde and it will once again destroy this teams chances of winning another SB.. I haven’t been this disappointed in a draft in a long time and yes these guys are all prospects, but to waste a pic on a Herm Edwards guy in the 3rd who would have been there in the 5th makes no sense .. Go Bucs

  25. Yucs2Bucs Says:

Lastly White didn’t play well last season and let’s all hope that was a glitch and to not draft LVDs replacement is mind boggling!!! They both weren’t very good and I know if you say anything bad about number 54 on here people come down from the trees to tell you how amazing he is, but those years are over and they passed on some really good players especially in the SEC for 2 guys that could have been taken later.. LVD “ was “ a great player and stinks he played under the depression years, but he won’t be a Buc next year and let’s hope he can go out with a Bang !!

  26. Paul D Ricci Says:

At least they didn’t waste there pick like New England, hopefully it works i would have preferred McBride but life isn’t perfect i still like David and White as linebackers they are a lot better than other teams have.
