Buccaneers Trade Out Of Round 1
April 28th, 2022Joe warned fans that the math was all about the Buccaneers trading out of the first round and accumulating more picks.
And that’s what just happened.
Tampa Bay has moved out of the No. 27 overall pick in a trade with the Jaguars. The return is No. 33 overall (Round 2), No. 106 overall (Round 4’s first pick) and a sixth-rounder at No. 160.
There are only 67 players on the Tampa Bay roster. They’ll need 90 for training camp and the Bucs entered this draft with just six picks (two of them seventh-rounders). More than one month ago, many NFL teams already were at 70-plus rostered players.
So all that had Joe wondering if general manager Jason Licht was more inclined than ever to trade down over the next few days to add picks — there’s supposed to be a ton of value in Rounds 3, 4 and 5.
Maybe the Bucs trade back up into later in Round 1, but that seems highly unlikely.
Also, the Bucs are very tight on the salary cap. Getting out of Round 1 could be a big help in scraping together enough nickels to re-sign Rob Gronkowski and Ndamukong Suh.

Interesting move…
April 28th, 2022 at 11:06 pm
Awesome trade.
April 28th, 2022 at 11:08 pm
He say on 1 player and got out played. Had nothing to do with bodies.
April 28th, 2022 at 11:08 pm
Great trade
April 28th, 2022 at 11:08 pm
Trey McBride TE CSU. Actually a need if you think about it.
April 28th, 2022 at 11:08 pm
I’m cool with it.
April 28th, 2022 at 11:08 pm
Great move by Licht.
April 28th, 2022 at 11:08 pm
I approve.
April 28th, 2022 at 11:08 pm
With this roster I was hoping for quality over quantity but it’s only 6 spots.
Kudos to the keys for hopping over us to get the pass rusher
April 28th, 2022 at 11:08 pm
The salary cap shouldn’t be a roadblock if you’re in win mode now, which we are.
April 28th, 2022 at 11:08 pm
sat.
April 28th, 2022 at 11:09 pm
I saw it coming too. It was well worth the gain only moving 6 spots. Licht will get his guy and I wouldn’t be surprised if he drops down again a few more spots.
April 28th, 2022 at 11:09 pm
*kudos to the Jets
April 28th, 2022 at 11:10 pm
The bucs played themselves. They were clearly hoping the fsu d-end would fall to them. Instead of trading up for him a couple of spots, they let the jets leap them and get him. Then they trade the 27th pick right after. If you wanted him, then go get him
April 28th, 2022 at 11:10 pm
Gives them time to do more research or trade back again
April 28th, 2022 at 11:10 pm
Only mad cause I waited up to see who we picked lol. Go bucs
April 28th, 2022 at 11:10 pm
When Johnson went to the Jets…..we knew we could get Wyatt at 33…….
I wouldn’t be surprised if someone wants our 1st pick tomorrow…..Jason will be on the phone tonight for a while…..
April 28th, 2022 at 11:11 pm
Good move
April 28th, 2022 at 11:11 pm
Kinda wish compensation was better but lots of talent on the board. Love the trade back
April 28th, 2022 at 11:12 pm
I would like to know if the Bucs would have drafted Johnson if the Jet din’t take him. Him and JTS together on rookie contracts….
April 28th, 2022 at 11:12 pm
Good trade. Can’t wait for tomorrow!
April 28th, 2022 at 11:13 pm
We will see if wyatt was a mistake not taking
But according to value per pick locations , we made out in trade
April 28th, 2022 at 11:13 pm
Seems like they should have got more, but let’s see what they do with 33. They got all day to shop it, so they could slide back a few slots and maybe pick up another 4th.
But said it in the other tread as well, I think they’re going to shock everyone and take McBride a lot higher than people are expecting.
Or maybe not, I’m no mind reader so I have no idea.
April 28th, 2022 at 11:13 pm
Had hopes of Wyatt (AND McBride)
April 28th, 2022 at 11:13 pm
A lot of very good defensive players are available. I think they may have snagged Jermaine Johnson but once he went, trading back a little was a no-brainer
April 28th, 2022 at 11:14 pm
A+ for Licht. Couldn’t have planned this any better for filling out the depth on this roster. Someone alert the Coast Guard, Licht pillaged Khan’s yacht.
April 28th, 2022 at 11:14 pm
Makes sense-
April 28th, 2022 at 11:14 pm
LOL. Packers take Wyatt!
April 28th, 2022 at 11:14 pm
Tampabaybucfan – Wyatt went to the Packers at 28. Not sure why the Bucs skipped on him, but maybe there is something to the domestic violence stuff, or maybe the Bucs just don’t like him. Not sure why the Bucs wouldn’t like him based on his tape and his combine, but oh well, hopefully he’s a bust now that he’s in GB.
April 28th, 2022 at 11:14 pm
I faked an illness at work, sort of a mini stroke to get out early to see the pick..lol..
April 28th, 2022 at 11:15 pm
Rats. I wanted Wyatt for Bucs
April 28th, 2022 at 11:15 pm
Packers got Wyatt with #28. Apparently we are assuming Suh coming back
April 28th, 2022 at 11:15 pm
Woohoo!! picking first in the 2nd round has its benefits as well. Teams will call you first in an attempt to jump over the competition- we could actually move down just a bit more and as a result, pick up a few more valuable picks and jump on our needs.
April 28th, 2022 at 11:15 pm
GREAT TRADE! I’m in the French quarter rn and Saints fans are SALTY.
April 28th, 2022 at 11:16 pm
How do we pass on Devonte Wyatt?
April 28th, 2022 at 11:17 pm
HERE’S BRILLIANT IDEA…
Let’s keep trading down until we have (20) 7th round picks.
April 28th, 2022 at 11:17 pm
THIS Is why I did NOT want Wyatt-
“Wyatt was arrested in February of 2020 for a domestic incident. He was ultimately charged with criminal trespass, damage to property and family violence — all misdemeanor charges. Walter Football also reports that there were 3 additional domestic incidents that were unearthed during private investigations.”
Since he’s been in college he’s been investigated and/or charged with four domestic violence issues. That’s why a lot of teams would not even consider him in the first round.
No thanks
April 28th, 2022 at 11:17 pm
Licht made a mistake horrible horrible move
April 28th, 2022 at 11:18 pm
A 4th and 6th to move back 6 spots, out of the 1st, is hardly an A+, more like a C-. I’m surprised they couldn’t get that 5th from the Jags, and they gave up some legit early defensive studs to trade back. They had better do something with what they got, or Licht is going to look very stupid.
BUT Licht has certainly earned the benefit of the doubt, so let’s see what happens.
April 28th, 2022 at 11:18 pm
Apologies for sounding redundant. Didnt get a chance to see everyone else’s comments first- m’bad and I’ll just say great minds think alike- Gooo Bucs!! Can’t wait for the season to get here!!
April 28th, 2022 at 11:18 pm
Chris… There are a whole bunch of DBs and a few D linemen available still plus they just got another fourth rounder and a throw in six because they need bodies. It was a great move
April 28th, 2022 at 11:19 pm
I think we tried to get green and wyatt both in the 2nd round and failed
April 28th, 2022 at 11:19 pm
It’s as simple as this — their targets will still be there at pick #33, so why not grab some extra picks and drop back. We lose nothing and get some extra juice later. WIn.
April 28th, 2022 at 11:19 pm
More revenue. Like it so far.
April 28th, 2022 at 11:19 pm
Lost on Loyd for a 4th and 6th rounder, plus 5th year option. Not liking this trade. He better Hope Cine, Hall or Booth make it to us. Loyds a player and plays all over. We need LBs.
April 28th, 2022 at 11:19 pm
If they really wanted Wyatt, they would have taken him at 27.
April 28th, 2022 at 11:20 pm
There’s about six defensive studs that could come right in and help Tampa. The Buccaneers are guaranteed to get one of them and they picked up a fourth and a sixth round pick. Why people have an issue with that is mind boggling
April 28th, 2022 at 11:27 pm
Six rounders rarely make the team and uf they do they play ST and not in the league long. David has played a ton and no guarantees with White. He said he wants to be highest paid LB. Loyd made sense. Again, 5th year option is huge. Maybe Dean. But I get the feeling it will Hall or McBride.
April 28th, 2022 at 11:30 pm
A trade back for picks that MAY make the team as a bubble roster players while you pass on poetical immediate impact players? Oh that tricky Licht.
April 28th, 2022 at 11:33 pm
4th and 6th round players aren’t productive players. Could careless about obtaining those picks. Devin Lloyd was still on the board that was the value pick. I wasn’t a fan of Wyatt didn’t care that we passed on him.
April 28th, 2022 at 11:37 pm
All the “Draft Capital” experts on Twitter have calculated that the Bucs FLEECED the Jaguars and that we got the far better value out of the trade.
The 1st pick in the 2nd round is arguably one of the most valuable in the draft because it gives us another pick to trade down for more value.
All the QB-needy teams are going to bed tonight thinking about Malik Willis and will be interested in trading up with the Bucs to grab Willis before another QB-needy team does.
April 28th, 2022 at 11:37 pm
Bigz I agree there’s no value in the 6th round but I guess some people get excited about it?? Imo it starts with a Dline and we don’t have one no I’m not saying there’s no good DL’s left but there’s a reason the pack drafted Wyatt.. we should’ve took him
April 28th, 2022 at 11:40 pm
JL back to being JL.
April 28th, 2022 at 11:41 pm
Obviously, the Bucs didn’t care for Wyatt. Super yalented but surrounded by even more talent and he didn’t produce. Very little production. All of you saying Licht made a mistake are the same ones that didn’t like Vea or any of the others. Licht is playing chess. You guys can’t even play parcheesi.
April 28th, 2022 at 11:43 pm
another licht blunder cine gone and wyat gone for what 4th rounder
April 28th, 2022 at 11:44 pm
hes probably going to draft that houston dl now no thanks
April 28th, 2022 at 11:46 pm
maybe he will draft a kicker in second round again lol
April 28th, 2022 at 11:51 pm
Luv the trade-down!!!!
Travis Jones & Booth still available!!!
Some of these teams may be calling to pass up others to snag a QB as well.
Could be a small move down again to accumulate more quality pics…
Then they can package some & move back up if needed.
Like the analytics here!!
Also have pic 1 of 4th round which helps…
I’m excited to see what goes down tomorrow!!
April 28th, 2022 at 11:58 pm
Nakobe dean?! Lavonte David isn’t getting any younger. I can see a perfect fit for him
April 29th, 2022 at 1:04 am
Possible it really is booth or a dt. Could even be McBride. If we trade down again and get any of those would be happy.
April 29th, 2022 at 1:19 am
Great move. Who is in charge of this news, always negative. Horrible news thread that should not exist on the Buccs thread.
April 29th, 2022 at 1:32 am
The Bucs not trading up to snag one of the top guards or Linderbaum to play guard was a huge mistake. They only have one quality guard on the roster at this point all others are backups at best. Stinnie will get abused all year. I don’t see how that is going to change by the start of the season. I’m sure Tom Brady isn’t too pleased with the way the first round played out for the Bucs.
April 29th, 2022 at 2:15 am
Brandon is right.
April 29th, 2022 at 6:19 am
I can’t figure all this out. I just hope the Bucs know what their doing. GOBUCS!
April 29th, 2022 at 6:53 am
My gamble paid off… I went to sleep around pick 12 and just looked at JBF
I don’t know who they left on the board but I am happy with the additional picks
April 29th, 2022 at 7:34 am
There are NO tight ends worthy of first round pick
there are no DE or LB or Safety picks worthy of first round status!!!
so the trade out makes AWESOME.
Lets not forget, Chris Godwin, Alex Kappa and Jordan Whitehead were 3rd and 4th round picks. and if you want to go Legacy, Super Bowl MVP dexter Jackson (4th) and Ronde Barber (3rd) were too! Many other NFL stars were too (ty Hilton, Kamara, Dak and Russel Wilson formerly of #letRussCook! We got those picks free just for waiting 4 places
April 29th, 2022 at 8:28 am
The value is in Rounds 2-4. I like the move
April 29th, 2022 at 9:03 am
Trading Down was a PHENOMENAL Move…Bucs weren’t going to trade up with only 6 picks and now they either get 5 total picks in the strongest area of this draft. The top wasn’t that strong. Devonte Wyatt has SERIOUS issues off the field. The top 2 interior DL to me are Phil Mathis of Bama and Perrion Winfrey from OU. Trey McBride might be this year’s Kittle, he’s that good. Bucs are looking great with that trade.
April 29th, 2022 at 9:40 am
Horrible deal as usual by I guy who should and would of been fired if not for Arian and Brady getting those two saved his job this idiot should of been gone years ago
April 29th, 2022 at 9:46 am
All the idiots saying they like the move this is why we spent years as a basement team because when we get chances to make a splash we crap the bed I guarantee you this idiot was drinking his own kool-aid and swore he knew the rest of the teams were picking and Wyatt would be there still and now lost him for rotation trash
April 29th, 2022 at 2:34 pm
Does anyone realize we do not have a starting guard opposite Shaq Mason? Kind of a big deal… and really the main thing the Bucs should have been focused on in this draft. There were 2 consensus plug and play guards in this draft and then there are all the others who may or may not pan out. Raimann is the best lineman left but I don’t know if he is versatile enough to play guard, probably their best bet at trying to solidify the guard position at this point.
April 29th, 2022 at 3:22 pm
Concentrate on McBride and the rest will fall in place.
April 29th, 2022 at 3:26 pm
@Ultimate Eli
This draft is thin at IOL. Green and Johnson were obvious blue chip first rounders. Linderbaum was an option but he was off the board as well. The fact that New England drafted Cole Strange in the first round should tell you something… And here it is: Belichick may have badly over-drafted Strange because this draft lacks OG depth.
I think the Bucs might have to consider one of the multiple, flawed OTs available on Day 2 (or even Day 3) with an eye on converting the draftee into an OG.
