Jason Pierre-Paul Banks Millions … In Real Estate
April 15th, 2022Joe’s not sure if this is good or bad for Tampa Bay’s chances of bringing back inspirational edge rusher Jason Pierre-Paul on an incentive-laden contract for this season.
JPP has earned more than $100 million in his standout NFL career, and he just banked more millions a few weeks ago.
Per Realtor.com, JPP profited about $4.5 million on the sale of one of his Boca Raton mansions in March. That’s quite a haul for owning the place about five years.
As hard as it is for Joe to contemplate seven figures in bank (let alone eight), Joe wonders whether JPP’s off-field success makes him less likely to rejoin the Bucs for, say, $2 million plus incentives when he just earned more cash relaxing — and rehabbing the surgically-repaired shoulder that killed his pass-rush ability last season.
On the flip side, maybe a flowing bank account makes JPP more likely to gamble on his football self and return to friendly surroundings and a coaching staff that respects him?
Remember, Lavonte David just said JPP wants back on the Bucs roster, and JPP said a year ago that he’d like to play three more seasons.
If he’s inexpensive, Joe would sign JPP in a heartbeat if he can pass a physical. The guy’s a team player, a freakish athlete and the kind of player who can catch fire in the postseason.

Time to move on.
April 15th, 2022 at 1:46 pm
IF JPP’s shoulder is 100%, I’d love to have him back, even at 33 years old. Bucs would have an awesome rotation going with Shaq, JPP, JTS, Nelson PLUS another DE/OLB high draft pick to rotate in this year, learn from JPP, and take his place next season. We’ll have Shaq & JTS still in 2023, but Nelson will almost surely be moving on IMO (he’s getting better & better, and will command a hefty sum on the market).

Money can’t buy 75,000 people cheering for you eight+ afternoons a year.
April 15th, 2022 at 1:55 pm
IF..JPP was smart, he would retire from football. He has like what 2 rings? But he will play on with somebody. I suspect some team will pay him big bucks. And..so be it. Bucs had better start paying close attention to their defense. It could get even worse than last years. But of course, we have Bowles to blame. He is our official scapegoat.
April 15th, 2022 at 1:59 pm
He doesn’t let anyone else play. Dude never comes off the field.
April 15th, 2022 at 2:01 pm
he doesn’t have IT anymore.
he’s done. we got burnt depending on him last year.
April 15th, 2022 at 2:07 pm
Like JPP tough as they come. When it gets tough JPP gets going.
April 15th, 2022 at 2:10 pm
Probably best to see how rehab goes and he he heals before talking money regardless. Still JPP if healthy would be more productive than any rookie we drafted
April 15th, 2022 at 2:11 pm
JPP doesn’t ever want to come off the field…even when he’s not playing well. It’s hard for players and coaches that respect him so much, to limit his snaps.
April 15th, 2022 at 2:25 pm
Bring back JPP play him part time & then let him rip it up in the playoffs…
April 15th, 2022 at 2:30 pm
610 snaps in limited duty and still generated pressure playing at less than 100%, maybe didnt get home as much, but he bounced back pretty well in 2020 after the car accident in 2019. I’m not betting against JPP, if he’s pliable on his price and willing to split MORE snaps with JTS, then bring him back and let him have a go at padding his resume. Hand, Neck, and he’ll bounce back from this shoulder surgery.
April 15th, 2022 at 2:40 pm
If he can share playing time then bring him back
April 15th, 2022 at 2:51 pm
JPP is one of my all time favorite players and I want him back if he’s healthy and takes a serious pay cut. I think a low starting value incentive laden contract would be fair for both sides. If someone is dumb enough to give him a big contract then good luck to him.
April 15th, 2022 at 3:10 pm
Now he has extra $…makes it more likely he comes back on the cheap, part-time, for a chance t get another ring. Brady will talk him into it.
April 15th, 2022 at 3:12 pm
The draft cant come soon enough.
April 15th, 2022 at 3:20 pm
Joe, watch the tape, it wasn’t just his shoulder that kept him from the passer his legs are shot. No more burst, or power from those old wheels.
April 15th, 2022 at 3:28 pm
He should of never been on the field after the injury, he was invisible. I am not sure whose decision that was but I hoping BA’s not Bowles because it was a bad one. If he still has juice sign him, he was know for knocking down passes. A little tough to do with a chronic shoulder injury.
April 15th, 2022 at 3:39 pm
We need JPP AND SUE ,keep that defense together….
April 15th, 2022 at 3:50 pm
Him signing for 2 million is laughable (Joe wrote plus incentives.–Joe) but besides that it is time to move on the dline is old need to get younger and jpp does t seem to be one to get off the field much even injured need to develop younger talent on the field.
April 15th, 2022 at 3:51 pm
JPP has at least a few fingers left without a ring……not many, though!!!
Money is one thing….playing football is another….I think he’ll play as long as the price doesn’t embarrass him.
April 15th, 2022 at 3:57 pm
Jpp has a pile of ‘got to’.
Certainly someone for those youngsters to look up too on the field.
April 15th, 2022 at 3:59 pm
JPP is the Simeon Rice of this generation minus the self-centered personality. Great football player and he played for USF in college. I remember watching him destroy entire olines in college. Go Bucs
April 15th, 2022 at 4:01 pm
Reminds me of Simeon Rice. Went from being a major factor to total liability in the span of a shoulder injury. Rehab is way better these days, but i wouldn’t be surprised if this is finally one injury too many for the big guy. I suspect that there’s limited crossover between what he’s worth and what he’s willing to pay for
April 15th, 2022 at 4:17 pm
one more year
April 15th, 2022 at 4:34 pm
Smart mind smart move with money….its simple really
April 15th, 2022 at 5:05 pm
I don’t think that money matters. He’s just a warrior who likes football. What matters is if he’s healthy. If he is, then bring him in to be part of the D line rotation
April 15th, 2022 at 5:12 pm
I am surprised so many just assume he is done.
The last time we saw him healthy, he was still dominating. Is it really impossible to believe that he, while healthy, could find that again?
April 15th, 2022 at 6:12 pm
He made 9 million last yr…maybe states why he played with that bad shoulder????
April 15th, 2022 at 6:27 pm
The Bucs might be in a position to draft a very productive (in college) pass rusher.
I believe we will pick the best Edge/CB/DL available.
Some think it possible that Jermaine Johnson II will be available at pick #27.
April 15th, 2022 at 7:39 pm
One of the greatest trades this this team has ever made. If he can still go . course you sign him again ..one year deal is fine
April 15th, 2022 at 7:43 pm
JPP is spent, and the bucs should move on. Ash is correct, it was much more than a bum shoulder. He was unable to create any push, and is too old to get around guys anymore. Great career, especially since he did a lot of it with missing fingers. Should the bucs take him back on heavy incentives, with a vet minimum deal? The way he looked last year, he might not even pass a physical, and probably wouldn’t make the team. Retire please
April 15th, 2022 at 8:58 pm
JPP may have tread left, but he’s worn down and not worth big $. Meanwhile, look at the veteran edge still available:
Akiem Hicks
Jadeveon Clowney
Carlos Dunlap
Jerry Hughes
Justin Houston
Melvin Ingram
A combination of one or a couple of these and/or a pass rusher in the draft
David Ojabo, Ebikete, etc. plus a DT who can pass rush. Add a nasty corner.
It’s time to field a terrifying defense that is better than the Rams.
April 15th, 2022 at 9:02 pm
It was more than his shoulder, he couldn’t create push?
What do you think he pushes with his head?
April 15th, 2022 at 9:13 pm
JPP in for a discont and he alternates with the other guys unless we get someone dominant then they play–who ever is best not paid the most.

Exactly. The shoulder was 90 percent of the reason he was not that effectively last year. I think GOB does not really understand how elite of an athlete JPP has been even in the last few years.
The only reason he is not signed right now by a team is the fear that shoulder will hold him back.
April 15th, 2022 at 10:56 pm
JPP is the terminator, he will never stop no matter what is injured he just keeps coming back. Hope he plays for the Bucs. He can still be productive in the league for sure.
April 15th, 2022 at 11:47 pm
He’ll be back… Love of the game and the competition he’s a baller 💯 percent with a good shoulder He’ll be back on his game no doubt.
April 16th, 2022 at 12:53 am
No way the Bucs don’t want him back. His leadership alone is irreplaceable but money is running out for JPP (and Suh) I don’t know how many more contracts can be reworked to keep everyone happy. It may be time to pass the torch to JTS and Anthony and hope one of the top DL are still available on draft day
April 16th, 2022 at 3:13 am
It’s probably time to let him retire
April 16th, 2022 at 7:40 am
JPP doesn’t play for $$ Don’t get me wrong, he values himself big time & he should! But he is a true team player and loves the game of football > understatement! Those are the kinds players all Bucs fans should want on the team. I hope he comes back & he n’ Shaq can be the bad ass leaders off the edge that they have been for a few years now #LFG Superbowl winners or bust baby!!!
April 16th, 2022 at 10:04 am
Choice between JPP and Suh? I pick Suh for health reasons.
But getting them both back would be best. JPP was the leader of the defense…so that is important as well.
I don’t care if they re-sign cheap or not, so long as they remain Bucs.
April 16th, 2022 at 10:05 am
I suspect we’ll see action on both after the draft.
April 17th, 2022 at 10:26 pm
I am a big JPP fan. If he is physcially able, I say bring him back! Even If we should happen to draft Boye Mafe, I say bring him on. I also cant’ go against having lots of edge rushing rotation going for you in this league. We know Bowles is all about mixing things up all along the de-line anyway.
