Lewis Cine Linked To The Bucs

Safety Lewis Cine out of Georgia has been linked to the Bucs by several NFL media sources to be our pick at No. 27.
Cine has fantastic length for the position and at 6-foot-2 with 32 ½ inch arms he is both fast and explosive. He clocked a 4.37-second 40 yard dash and an 11-foot-1 broad jump at the NFL Scouting Combine. In his three years as a starter, Cine compiled 144 tackles and 14 pass deflections with 2 interceptions.
He is known as a fierce hitter and a physical run stopper who can intimidate his competition. Cine fits right in with Todd Bowles’ schemes but lacks ball skills, and that really bothers me in this scenario. The Bucs really need a safety that can play both the run and the pass.
I was frustrated last year with our lack of interceptions; I should say at least one dropped interception per game. See the Rams playoff game. We dropped two in the first quarter! I like Cine as a player, and he could develop into a special strong safety, but I see him as a second-rounder.

WTF?
We signed Logan Ryan and Keanu Neal.
We have Winfield Jr (pro bowler) and mike Edwards (ball hawk) for depth.
Why would we bring in ANOTHER safety ?
Benning-potoae and Anthony Nelson are currently starting in the Bucs front-7 right now.
What if one of them gets hurt? Then who plays?
Sometimes I wonder how many of you actually watch the games and understand who is on the roster…

Why? We need a safety who can be a force in the run game and cover. I don’t know if Cine is that player. But SS is definitely a priority. Edwards is not a SS. Ryan is not a SS… and Neal is a question mark on a one year contract. SS is in the mix with DL, CB as top needs.

Nope. Even if he’s best player available there has gotta be one close behind in a position we aren’t completely loaded at. Corner, dline, oline.. has to be at least somebody at one of those positions that falls farther than expected. We need two dline, oline we could def use someone that can play the three interior positions.. and I think even depth at tackle is suspect… Could use a swing tackle in case either one gets injured

Wow, why is everyone so against Safety? I think maybe yall need to go look at Bowles history developing and grooming great play at the position. Not just his history here go look up his safetys with Arizona and the Jets.
Todd the Godd has proven he knows exactly what hes doing at Safety. If we draft one high all Bucs fans be excited with high expectations.
All that said I really wanna see an EDGE or DL in round 1. We ended last year look old and with no energy up front. If thats no the top priority Im not sure what theyre thinking.

Why a SS after Ryan and Neal signings and we have Winfield and Edwards’s already

Ryan and Neal are on 1 year deals. The Draft is about the long term, in many instances.
I heard Andrew Booth needs hernia surgery and might fall out of the 1st Round. I also read somewhere that he’s a “Lovie Smith-type Corner”, which I consider a slap in the face (who knows if this is true or not, he seems to have size and speed, unlike “Lovie Smith-type Corners”).

not thinking a safety in the first round is best–like getting a backup quarterback in the first round we already good in that position at least enough that we don’t want 1st round safety.

Lol I’ve seen a few articles that have the bucs taking Cine and Todd has had drafts where he has taken a safety in first and second round in the same draft so I wouldn’t be so sure this doesn’t happen definitely a possibilty.

The last thing in I’m worried about for our defense, especially the secondary, is run stopping. Are we not already good enough in this phase of the game? Isnt that like clamoring for a WR with blocking skills?

What articles? I have stayed on top of mock drafts and not once have I seen Cine’s name. If they draft a safety with bad hands this entire fan base should lose their sh€¥

We don’t need to spend a 1st round pick (or any pick, for that matter) on a guard.

Ryan is a nickel and free safety. Not a run enforcer. Neal has had injuries and is questionable as a cover safety, but may be good in the box. Both of those guys are one one year deals.
Edwards is not a SS either. I like him as a coverage guy. He has only one year remaining on his deal.
Winfield could probably do okay as a SS, but he’s better left where he is.
So, we really don’t have the player we need at strong safety yet. One of the reasons why our run defense has been so strong was Whitehead. He needs to be replaced.
DL is. OL definitely is not. OLB, maybe. TE, maybe. CB maybe.
Top need is DL.
Next need in my mind is a tie between TE, CB, and safety.
OLB and ILB right behind that.
Then RB.
Then OL.

Jordan Whitehead was a big reason for our run defense. Bowles defense relies on a run enforcing safety.
You should be concerned about run stopping. Suh may not be back and Whitehead is gone. 2 important pieces and we don’t have answers for either yet.
No… safeties and cornerbacks need to tackle and play the run as well.
Also, while blocking may not be top importance in a WR, having receivers who can block makes a difference in the running game. It’s one of the things that makes Godwin so valuable.

I could name the source of the mock that had Cine as our pick, but it’s another local Bucs website that Joe would edit out if I named it here. This other source is known to have good draft intel on the Bucs, year after year.

I like Cine but he’ll be gone by the time we pick in the second. I don’t see him as a first round pick but early second. I do see him being our #1 SS if drafted so, he’d make an immediate impact. I don’t look at the draft as needing to be a priority pick that’s how you torpedo a team (best player available). If we pick a player of need who’s not worthy of that pick we’ll be picking that same position again next year and the year after. We’d just be spinning our wheels. Free agency is to plug holes as we’ve seen Licht do.
I’d be happy if linebacker Devin Loyd or wide receiver Burks fell. I don’t see a DT at #27 being a good fit for the 3 technique. Wyatt would be a better fit at the hybrid 5 technique that Gohlston plays. He doesn’t have that elite get off you’d want for a first rounder or the pass rush moves. I’d wait till the second for a 3 technique.

Good thoughts Sasquatch, I just don’t feel they’re complete thoughts. I would argue Whitehead was “a” reason, more so than a “big” reason. There was not some cliff-style drop off when Mike Edwards was paired w AWjr.
I am concerned about runstopping, I’m just not concerned it’s a weakness. Suh, though still good, is no longer great and can (should?) be replaced in the draft this year, arguably in lieu of a safety with a premium pick. There remain premier inside linebackers on this team and a large Samoan who commands double teams too.
I don’t dispute a WR should be able to block. But you named but one WR in counterpoint, who if he wasnt the reliable possession receiver that he is with the occasional flare for the big play, he would be as worthless as Michael Clayton.
I think the organization has assessed their needs at safety, taken a flyer on someone who can stop the run from safety position in Neal, and shored up the coverage side in Ryan. There is no more room at this in, much like the clamor last year to draft a 5th string RB in the early rounds.

This notion that the Bucs and Tom Bowles employ a traditional strong safety is just crap. They have not in any of the years that Todd Bowles has been here.
Bowles asks his safeties to be versatile. In fact, we saw some game plans where we run two high safeties the majority of plays (see Superbowl and NFC championship game against Green Bay).
Winfield and Whitehead were equally adept at supporting the run. The reason Whitehead was not as good as Winfield is that Whitehead was not as good in space. The biggest reason they let him walk.
