Arrival Day At One Buc Palace

April 11th, 2022

As of two weeks ago, the Bucs were supposed to report back to work on April 25.

But that plan was delivered a curveball when Bucco Bruce Arians turned his job over to Todd Bowles. All of a sudden, the Bucs had a new head coach and teams with a new HC are permitted to start official conditioning/meetings two weeks sooner than those with veteran coaches.

The twist for the Bucs was that Arians already had told players to report later in April, so guys planned vacations, personal appointments, etc., with the expectation of being free until then.

Bowles said he was going to consult with his staff and players and craft a plan, and the result is many players returning to One Buc Palace today, but not all.

The Buccaneers sent out video to Joe and other media of players arriving this morning. There were veterans like Donovan Smith, Lavonte David, Cameron Brate and Sean Murphy-Bunting, and plenty of players Joe didn’t recognize in street clothes.

It’s expected that Bowles will clarify the player reporting situation for everyone later this week.

JTS looks like he’s packed on 70 lbs! Stop the run!

  2. GOB Says:

Bowles already getting to work, a great sign. Less days off. Less days off, say it with me less days off.

  3. MattSpy05 Says:

    @GOB

I’m going to tell your boss the same thing.

  4. Proud Bucs Fan Says:

Nice to finally see a Full time head coach that is sober as well.

  5. Beeej Says:

    Sober is very overrated

  6. pewter941 Says:

A veteran team getting some extra weeks of practice, great way to take advantage of the system.

  7. GOB Says:

Lol Matt, Im a retired civilian commander in the Navy. Believe me, I had more days off trying to extend my lackluster football career.

  8. Buczilla Says:

    Woot!

  9. GOB Says:

Something I haven’t heard mentioned here much, is the possible revolt from players and fans, due to the HC change. If the bucs struggle early, it gives all you BA fans ammo. It may take the bucs a while to adjust to the change. Just a thought

  10. Zwak Says:

Coach, Hard knocks is on line 1 & 2!

  11. Bowles4President Says:

I wonder why football players are able to extend their careers more now than 20 years ago? Hhhmmm…

More days off. More days off. More days off.

  12. Craig Says:

It isn’t really a regime change, so the Bucs can do an awful lot during these two weeks.

Hope Tryon has grown into the position, he seemed a little weak in the upper body last season, but it wasn’t bad for someone who missed his senior year.

    Go Bucs

  13. Steven007 Says:

It does look like JTS put on some mass. At first glance I thought that was a picture of Tristan wirfs.

  14. firethecannons Says:

Love this guy work ethic and motivation! He caan’t wait to get there and get going! Nothing and nobody more important to him then Todd Bowles! Perfect–if it is possible–he will get it!

  15. Kentucky Buc Says:

Stober. I Habnt bin slober in moths. Donut inflict me one butt.

  16. DEEEMO Says:

WOW…JTS looks like he was really hitting the weight room the past 3 months! LFG…………

  17. Lakeland Steve Says:

Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words. You definitely can tell that Joe Tryon-Shoyinka put in a lot of work during the off-season. Another guy who was there was Donovan Smith. Kind of surprised a vet not necessarily fighting for a job was at the first day of OTA’s.

  18. Eddie Marz Says:

Everybody saying Brady got BA kicked out but I have another scenario for you. Bellicheck heard Brady was going to Miami and then purposely dropped that bomb about Flores to kill the deal.

  19. Crickett Baker Says:

I, too thought it was Wirf at first Steven. He sure is bigger in his upper body! I can still remember how stoked the room was when they git JTS in the draft. It was almost like they won the lottery! Hope he continues to prove them right.
Hey, btw, does anyone remember which Bucs player went to a special football camp a few weeks ago? It is driving me nuts that I can’t remember who it was nor where he went.

  20. RPK Says:

Hoping JTS puts on weight during the off-season, but can you really tell? He is in a sweatshirt LOL.

Agreed proudboybucsfan, nice to have a head coach this year.

If you’re going to have the best QB in history, you should probably have a head coach as well. Glad Tom Kicked BAs ass out so that could finally happen. Go Bucs!

  21. GOB Says:

Sure bowles4president. It has nothing to do with nutrition, chemistry, and rules changes. Your statement is quite asinine

  22. Buccos Says:

BA is a HoF caliber coach. He has proven himself over decades and made the Bucs relevant again. Bowles is an awesome DC but has not proven himself to be a great HC. Anyone who says otherwise is an idiot. Thank you

  23. BUC CHEEKS Says:

LFG!!! DO WORK!!! JTS looking large!!!

  24. DoooshLaRue Says:

I think they provide free food.

  25. AlvaFan Says:

I hope DL coach will figure out how to use JTS this year. He has freakish athletic ability. Coaches are always telling players what to do and how to be. Don’t screw him up. Learn his strengths and utilize them. Don’t try to put a round peg in a square hole.

  26. GOB Says:

Hey Buccos, If you really think it was BA who made the bucs relevant again, please go to the nearest mental health care facility, immediately!!! I’m no doctor, but I suspect you have BA derangement syndrome. Not to worry, it’s easily treated, you just need a lobotomy. Tom Brady is the singular reason the bucs are on the map. That and a plethora of very high draft picks.

  27. David Says:

    Proudbucfan

I don’t know, the greatest run in Buccaneer history that included a division title and a Super Bowl win…
While I appreciate you having an opinion from a distance on your couch, I’m still going to go with what the players and coaches have said for the last 25 years- Bruce Arians is a great coach.

  28. David Says:

Love seeing a lot of guys showing up unexpectedly. For those that don’t, I have no problem with that either. There are plenty who are away on vacation with their family and children etc.
Good to see Bowles getting after it though

I hope DL coach will figure out how to use JTS this year.

JTS is an OLB, not a DL, by the way… Also, he was a rookie on a learning curve. Also, I think it’s the coordinator’s job to determine how to use him, and I don’t think his usage was an issue. He just has to fill out and get stronger, which he almost certainly will.

    Other than that, great point!
