Jason Licht And Drafting Receivers
April 11th, 2022It’s a solid bet that Jason Licht will draft a wide receiver this month.
What are you talking about, Joe? The last thing the Bucs need is a receiver. Well, Licht has drafted nine receivers through his eight drafts.
That’s a big number considering teams general carry more DBs and O-linemen on their active roster. Licht’s nine receivers drafted ranks second among Bucs position groups to the 11 defensive backs he’s picked. Licht also has snatched eight offensive linemen in his tenure.
Two of those drafted receivers were Robert Herron (2014, Round 6) and Kaelin Clay (2015, Round 6), and those selections also were about fishing for a return man.
In a passing league, and with a quarterback the team wants to keep drooling, Joe always is in favor of drafting quality receivers, pass rushers and offensive linemen (no particular order). Chris Godwin was a third-round pick and a special teams beast as a rookie. Russell Gage was a sixth-round pick by the Falcons. (The Bucs drafted WR Justin Watson a round before Atlanta grabbed Gage.)
If Licht thinks the next Godwin is sitting there in Round 3, Joe sure hopes Licht pulls the trigger.

Ideally I would like to see us snag a CB or RB that can return kicks. We need depth at both units and we need to upgrade the KR/PR position.

I think we have enough receivers, so unless the next Mike Evans or Chris Godwin is there, I think we need to grab a Defensive Lineman/Pass Rusher.
If we are gonna win another Super Bowl, we must be able to bring pressure w/o all out Blitzes all the time.
The all out Blitz against the Rams cost us a trip to the Super Bowl, because it left Cooper Cupp one on one.

First 3 picks by position, d-line, o-line, rb.
In no particular order!
Should be fun!!

We need a TE

Oh don’t worry everyone thinks Brady is the gm of this team. He drafted Godwin and Evans I’m sure he’ll find a great pick at some point in the draft😒

We do need help returning kicks. But I think another WR is low priority.

Need to double up in dline, get a corner, te, oline, and even Rb maybe someone to groom at ilb…. Wr seems like a huge luxury with so many needs in defense.

Brady has an interview with Willie McGinest tomorrow. I’m pretty sure this would be his first interview since his unretirement. It’s never been his style to respond to every single rumor and innuendo. I take this interview as him wanting to get things out before OTAs. He’s always said if he doesn’t spend mental energy responding to negativity, so don’t expect him to throw gasoline on the current palace intrigue

Pretty sure they do draft a wr at some point in the draft might be first round if Burkes falls.

Bucs need to trade down of possible to get an extra pick. Because not only of the obvious needs we have no middle linebacker depth and Lavontes not getting any younger.

Pewter Power- It wouldn’t be so darn funny if it wasn’t true! LOL!

Not saying we can’t take a WR on day 3, but we already have
Evans, Godwin, Gage
Perriman, Grayson, Johnson
Miller + practice squad WRs
So who are you trading or cutting since you don’t usually dress more than 5 or 6 for the game? We don’t need 8 receivers fighting for 5 slots. There are bigger needs if you don’t plan on trading or cutting 2 of them.

Olave please.

Edge, DT and TE potential contributers are the Bucs biggest needs for day 1 and 2. Yes, CB and OLine are needed on day 3 for depth. These are unlikely to be contributers unless there are injuries. With Vaughn, Fournette, and Bernard all signed, RB can be a 7th rd or UFA.

Unless you expect a reciever to be immediate impact, it’s a waste. The bucs have other, pressing needs to address. Brady doesn’t have time to hold a rookies hand and teach him the intricacies of his offense. Nothing against drafting a special teams player at the position, but you can get that in the fourth round. It should be corner, D tackle, and linebacker in that order.

alec pierce in late round 2 or 3

The Ram’s are our biggest obstacle on our way to the Superbowl. When we face the Ram’s we need to be able to pressure Stafford so he doesn’t have time to get the ball out to Cupp and company. As far as starters go we’ve already addressed the secondary in free agency. In the first two rounds we have to get a starting DT that can get pressure up the middle (Wyatt if he’s there at 27) and add another Edge rusher to rotate with JTS & Shaq. The only WR I would consider at 27 would be Jahon Dotson out of Penn State. He is going to be unstoppable and he gives the Bucs something they don’t have.

Picking a WR in the first 3 rounds is like picking a QB in the 2nd round of last year’ draft. We have greater needs.

Too many other holes and too much in win now mode
I’m expecting CB, DL, and TE in 1st 3 rounds.

BUCman, is right. The key is pressuring Stafford with 4 rushers. He eats the blitz for lunch. Bowles can get away with his blitz happy defense against 90% of the opponents on the schedule, but not Stafford. He struggles mightily when asked to throw against seven defenders. A gap shooting/splitting D tackle is exactly what the bucs should look for. Barrett also must be better. Folks will point to his sack total last year, which was higher than his contact year, as evidence of a great season. I’m not one of them. The bucs faced garbage O line after garbage O line last year. He looked out of shape and disinterested a lot of the time. I’m not opposed to another edge rusher either. Be it a stand up backer, or a traditional rusher would help. Take a flyer on Trey flowers, if the money is right.

Round 1 > best player available
Round 2 > best player available
Round 3+ > best player available at position of need.
Thank you!

Why is ILB never mentioned as huge need? Lavonte getting older , Devin good but a bit overrated, and zero depth. Huge need.
