Ohio State WR Chris Olave.
Yeah, Joe got fired up over the weekend reading that stud Ohio State receiver Chris Olave admitted he is one of the Bucs’ 30 invites to One Buc Palace.
Joe also would not be shocked if Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht overstocked his offensive weapons cupboard in an effort to entice Tom Brady to stick around after this year (you don’t think that’s what the Dolphins are doing?).
So out of curiosity, Joe did a bit of research and noticed that both helmethair Mel Kiper and Todd McShay, both of BSPN, have Olave ranked as their No. 3 receiver in the draft. Joe also looked up who the third receivers selected in the draft have been and their performance.
In 2019, the Cowboys selected CeeDee Lamb as the third receiver in the draft. He’s had 935 and 1,102 yards receiving the past two seasons, respectively. Pretty good.
Last year the Eagles selected DeVonta Smith as the third overall receiver. He had 916 yards and sure appears as if he is going to be an absolute stud.
No, the Bucs probably don’t need a receiver, unless they are spooked by Chris Godwin’s rehab. But damn, if the Bucs did get Olave, NFC defenses would need to look the eff out!

IF they go offense at #27 and they aren’t going OL, if Olave is there (which he won’t be) then take him. Otherwise there would be better value in trading back and grabbing Trey McBride, TE from Colorado St. He’s the top TE in the draft and there is a real need for another TE because last I checked all we’ve got is Cam Brate. Nothing against him, but his best days are behind him. Olave would be fighting for playing time, while McBride would be out there likely far more often blocking at first while we figure out the new OL personnel. Trading back, you’d pick up more capital to make up for the 5th and 6th we don’t have. I know, you need a trade partner, but the NFL does a lot more trades than they used to. Considering depth concerns, for my money TE is a much better value.

Or even better yet, go DT or EDGE at 27, and TE Isaiah likely from Coastal Carolina @ 60.

Olave is trade up idea.
I mean if the Bucs believe they will get a healthy JPP, and Suh, they might not be high on these D Lineman.
Outside of Davis and Wyatt and of course the DEs we wont get, I wouldn’t risk it.
Tryon will be better. I agree with TE but maybe the 3rd.
I’m really feeling an all in trade up for their WR.

We already invest 45 million per year in our top 3 receivers, and people are drooling over drafting another in round 1, neglecting the defense. It doesn’t get much dumber.

Knowing JL … He’ll pick us up a stocking stuffer from The Sisters of the Blind Bible College in the third round who probably belongs in Guantamano Bay, but because of “no bail” laws this violent young man or woman (Hey, I’m not a biologist) will commit acts of mayhem all over these United States on Sundays until they arrest him in Germany this reason … For criminal violent acts against the other team.

Seems a lot of people really like the idea of drafting offense this year all the way around and giving Brady as many weapons as he can get. I mean that doesn’t seem terrible any way you look at it tbh. I like Chris Olave also those OSU WRs have really been pretty nasty in recent years. Ohio State is a big time program. I guess because with Godwin out likely until midseason right its just we don’t have a legit #2 outside possession WR. That hurts our offense I suppose. We do have a lot of fast athletic WRs though that have good chemistry with Brady but are small and mostly deep threat options only. Brady is an intermediate thrower for much of his offensive career. He can make the big time throws, but thats not his bread and butter. I don’t hate this pick but with Russell gage now I just find it tough to have reason to go rd 1 on a WR. Although again another issue is our schedule is really hard this season. Depth is key this year at all positions. Like and we still aren’t even sure about Gronkowski. That would be a huge blow to the team and TB12. We need him back at work. I think we win our division with ease , but I don’t suspect a lot of these games aren’t gonna be easy for sure wins like the last few years. Thats why I wanted defense. Keep offenses off the board. I had us drafting 3 DL all of which were 6-5 300+ pounds. Moving SMB to backup safety could be good for depth and working him out at Outside CB and ST would be a great idea imo. Would like to see Tyrann Matthieu in TB even if its not at safety he’d excellent inside at SLOT CB. Think Ronde barber like. Wish we had more cap space. Moving money could get us Such, Gronk , the rookie class & Matthieu . That would be a tough all around team for real.

I had us trading back a few spots and getting an additional pick and still getting a guy we need in Tampa. Having more help at more positions specifically depth on this team isn’t such a bad idea. Especially with that extra game and tougher schedule. O Line depth is a little weak , but we can add value after the cuts come. Some of these new guys on O line surprise after a few years also so maybe I am over exaggerating lol. There are guys though I just do not trust. I do however trust the HC and Staff and I do support TB12 110%.

Given the stupid expensive contracts that top receivers have gotten recently, I have a feeling that drafting a first round wide receiver (5 year contracts for first rounders) is going to become even more popular this year. If this dude is there at 27 it would be fantastic though.

Brady has plenty of weapons as it is, and only needs a few more skill players (or upgrades/trades).
Except for TE (which remains an issue unless Gronk commits) I am extremely leery of any major moves from here on that isn’t DEFENSE or OFFENSIVE LINE.
Doesn’t matter how many shiny toys you give Brady. The winning happens with DEFENSE and SMASHMOUTH TRENCHES. Control the trenches, physically dominate, and the Ws pile up.

Devin Lloyd LB Utah is ELECTRIC-Has all skills-look at his highlight video and tell me he is not a Day 1 starter in the league for 10 years. Time to groom LVD replacement and Day 1 LB’s are not nearly as costly as a WR. Combining 2 Devins on D , change nickname to Devin on Earth.

There is no need to move up for Olave. Between Christian Watson, Alec Pierce, Skyy Moore, Calvin Austin and Treylon Burks, Bucs will have a great opportunity to nab a WR that could play both inside and outside. Christian Watson offers the most upside in this draft with near Megatron type measurables. Jameson Williams has to be a top 10 pick, but who knows, his injury could get him to drop to Bucs as well. Man this draft is loaded with probowl caliber WR prospects.

Can Olave stop Aaron Donald from sacking Brady? Can Olave get Stafford on the ground for a sack on 3rd and long?.. Can Olave provide underneath/box coverage while AWJ patrols deep?..
I’d love to have Olave as our #4 WR. But that seems like the epitome of a “luxury pick”.. We had trouble stopping Donald WITH Marpet.. Should we expect Stinnie to be an upgrade or even a equivalent to Ali? We know who we need to beat to get back to the promised land. We got to draft accordingly to give ourselves the best opportunity to be victorious..

Yeah, somehow people haven’t looked at our roster lately. As of right now, we can’t even put 3 starting quality DL on the field. Even if Suh re-signs, we have one 30 year old on a one year contract and one 35 year old on a one year contract. We don’t have quality depth either. Nacho? Get serious.
And people want to draft a receiver in round one… and they still want to reserve the right to complain about defense. The stupidity is mind boggling.

I don’t think the Bucs will draft Olave, an Ohio State player because Brady will say NO WAY, he hates Ohio State, it will not work. The rivalry between Ohio State and Michigan is real.

^ That’s not the reason it’s not happening. Pretty sure Brady could figure out a way to throw the ball to someone who went to Ohio State. Duh.
There’s 45 million reasons why they won’t (or shouldn’t) spend a first round pick on a receiver.

Olave should be our #1, just have to figure who to partner with in a trade up. Probably wont last past 15-20….
