Josh Wells Returns For His Fourth Season
March 25th, 2022More action in free agency for our beloved Buccaneers.
This time it was the member of Ira Kaufman’s family on the Tampa Bay roster.
Yes, hardcore listeners of the Ira Kaufman Podcast (new episode coming Saturday) know Bucs left/right tackle Josh Wells is related to Ira. Much more important, he’s a valuable veteran cog backing up Donovan Smith and Tristan Wirfs.
Wells struggled against the beasts of the Rams defense in January. That’s no surprise, but he really didn’t play poorly and he’s had a good three seasons for Tampa Bay.
News broke tonight and Joe saw the ticker on NFL Network.
Bucco Bruce Arians and general manager Jason Licht love continuity on their offensive line, and they’ve got plenty of it with the March re-signings of Ryan Jensen, Aaron Stinnie and Wells.

I am sure he is is a great guy but I have no clue what anyone sees in him as an NFL OL. Hopefully he does not have to be counted on to block for TB12, that is always frightening.

We need to realize that when he filled in for Wirfs he was also injured playing on a bad hip. It wasn’t a fair evaluation.

Put it on Spotify Joe! That’s where I listen to all my podcasts

And Josh Wells played admirably against one of the best defensive lines in modern nfl history. Guys making a lot more money than him got worked in that game.

More OL roster depth stockpiling. Suggests heavy defensive focus in the draft. Which is a good thing.
March 26th, 2022 at 3:00 am
Yeah he knows the plays. By September he is probably a Jag.
March 26th, 2022 at 4:30 am
Wasn’t Wells playing hurt in that Rams’ game?
March 26th, 2022 at 4:58 am
Wells was injured but playing through it. This is a good “depth” signing. A veteran player with experience in the system is valuable. He’s a “back-up” for a reason, but he can fill in as needed.
These signings make me believe that the Bucs are not picking OL as high as we might expect. They have a lot of back-up guys in that room; Hainsey, Stinnie, Leverette, Wells. And some can play multiple positions.

^^^Also, recently acquired Fred Johnson.

rams won’t have Von Miller next and we will have wirfs and Jensen healthy. add shaq Mason.
I smell revenge

So…..Wells is Ira’s great grandson…….we’ll have to root for the guy!!!
March 26th, 2022 at 7:57 am
We need to stack up first four rounds with DE, CB, DT. We r set with the offense. Rams barely beat us in championship despite the back ups n injuries we played with. If defense put pressure on Stafford, we win the game. We’ve gotta elevate that front line n bring in an aggressive head’s up corner to start opposite CDavis. JDean is too stiff, timid, passive, n reluctant to react on the ball n or player. He still seems confused at times n when he does make a play he seems shocked.

Now we need to draft a left guard!
March 26th, 2022 at 8:16 am
Really? No chance to upgrade here? Guess there is no money left. Good thing Smith is a true Iron Man.
March 26th, 2022 at 8:28 am
Will the Bucs give Fred Johnson his #74 number. Is it too soon?
March 26th, 2022 at 10:35 am
I’d rather have Cartman or Kenny blocking for Brady then Wells sometimes even Donovan. At least Kenny is used to getting beat up & killed a bunch.
March 26th, 2022 at 12:37 pm
Wells had a quad injury and still played against the Rams. He has done a good job backing up both sides when called upon. Glad he was resigned.
March 26th, 2022 at 3:52 pm
Hes taken care of tackles but what about tight end if he keeps waiting on Gronk all the decent free agents tight ends will be gone.
March 26th, 2022 at 6:46 pm
dang, wells is ira’s grandson?
does he sometimes pop in and take cosmo for a walk?
March 27th, 2022 at 12:35 am
Who is more dynamic and important? RoJo or Wells?
