Will Gholston Doesn’t Want To Play For Any Other Coordinator Than Todd Bowles
March 25th, 2022Last year, Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles played footsie again with other teams interviewing for a head coach opening. He obviously decided to stay.
This was great news for Bucs defensive lineman Will Gholston. Since Bowles took over the Bucs’ defense in 2019, Gholston has blossomed and it is quite likely Gholston reached his professional potential.
Gholston, who signed a one-year contract to remain with the Bucs, taking a paycut, confessed he would prefer to remain with the Bucs for the rest of his NFL career. Given the fact Gholston is 30 and has already logged 10 seasons, the end is closer than the start.
But if Bowles happens to take a head coaching gig next season with another team, Gholston said he’s going to offer his services if the Bucs turn the page.
“I’m super excited,” Gholston said about Bowles returning. “I was talking to him before I came down here [for the press conference]. Coach Bowles is a brilliant mind and you can hear it in his voice whenever he speaks, especially about the defense, and off the field as well.
“Just being able to play for a guy that, I feel like it sparked my career to be honest with you [or] jumpstarted it. [Defensive line coach Him, Kacy [Rodgers] and all the rest of the guys – [they’re] dope.”
How much does Gholston appreciate Bowles? Well, Gholston said if Bowles moves to another team, he might have a very difficult decision.
“If he does go somewhere [hopefully] he’s looking at me,” Gholston said. “And I’m going to be looking at him.”
Gholston wants to play his entire career in Tampa. He’s made Tampa his permanent home and loves how the area fits a family lifestyle. Gholston did say one reason he stayed with the Bucs was that it would have been tough for him to uproot his family.

‘How much does Gholston appreciate Bowles?’
Obviously Big Will appreciates Bowles’ leadership a lot more than some Bucs’ fans. And that’s a shame because we’ve been truly blessed to have Todd as our DC going into our 4th year now.

The all-out blitz against the Rams was inexcusable

Ha Joe….did Bowles decide to stay? Was he offered any of the jobs? Do we know?

Bowles needs to admit his decisions were wrong against the rams and played like a fool …but still glad he’s here!

My guess is while playing “footsie” he got kicked in the shin. GMs…”hmmm, your gameplan against the rams was to continue blitzing the most effective qb vs the blitz. Not for 1 game, but for 2 games. What were the outcomes of those games?…thank you, please put your socks and shoes back on and see yourself out.”
He’s only good while it’s working. When it stops working, no adjustments.

Please tell me Bowles has learned from the error of his ways in the playoff Rams game. That all-out blitz was inexcusable. He needs to adjust his philosophy some, at least when the team they’re facing has Kupp. Smh…if we could’ve gotten to OT we would’ve won. Oh well… i’m hopeful things will be different this year. Outside of the offense line, I hope the Bucs go all defense in the draft. We need it!

Bowles is a top notch coach despite his blunder against the Rams in the playoffs. I mean, raise your hand if you’ve never made a mistake.
