Dane Belton And The Bucs
March 23rd, 2022Interesting word out of the University of Iowa Pro Day.
The Hawkeyes have a hearty handful of NFL prospects, but it intrigued Joe when one said he had a meeting set up at One Buc Palace but nowhere else yet.
Dane Belton is a uniquely versatile defensive back. He played in what the team nicknamed their “cash” position, a safety-linebacker role that led to the 6-1, 205-pound junior racking up 46 tackles and five interceptions last season. Belton told told HawkCentral.com on Monday that he’ll visit the Bucs on April 7 and he expects more in-person visits with teams to be scheduled.
The Bucs need help on special teams, and Belton’s athleticism, speed and apparent football smarts make him look like a potential coverage stud. He ran a 4.43-second 40-yard dash at Iowa’s Pro Day, and he was the eighth-fastest defensive back at the NFL Scouting Combine last month.
A potential late-third-round pick for the Bucs, a fourth-rounder? Someone to keep an eye on, a possible nickel corner in training.

Or could he be depth and understudy for Lavonte for the next couple of years? Assuming he can put on some weight

There was a chess piece like that in the last draft, Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, who I thought had better potential than Tryon-Shoyinka.

Seems like the bucs love drafting the safety/slot/LB utility players. It has been working out for them as of late. I’m sure Belton is going to be one of the picks this year if he falls to the bucs later

Way too small for a LB in the NFL.
More safety depth since Whitehead left?

Berlin is a good player, but would love Jalen Pitre in that hybrid role.

they’re prepping to play a 1-5-5

We know how our front office likes versatility, sounds like Belton can help Winfield play the box safety role and cover like we’ve asked Mike Edwards to do situationally.

He went to Jesuit High School. Good kid.

Florida A&M safety Markquese Bell (yeah I’m bias), but I have seen him play and be a playmaker

Is anyone seeing this Baker to back up Brady stuff man the NFL is so wild right now must see tv for sure lol wow
March 23rd, 2022 at 3:23 pm
Sounds like the “moneybacker” position… except 205 lbs seems too small for that in the pros…
March 23rd, 2022 at 3:43 pm
4.43 is pretty fast…
Many don’t know that Devin White is has 4.42 speed as does Russell Gage & Chris Godwin…….
So….White can run with these guys….doesn’t mean he’s good in coverage because there’s more to it than speed.
For example…..Antoine Winfield has 4.45 speed and Cooper Kupp 4.62…..you saw who won that battle.

6′ 1″, 205, 4.43, 5 INT … Wow! R3? Hell yes!
March 23rd, 2022 at 7:27 pm
Sounds like the future that was going to be Whitehead.
Someone said LVD replacement… At 205? No chance
March 23rd, 2022 at 8:34 pm
Maybe a slightly larger version of Ronde? I’m talking style and verstality here not making a comparison of a draft pick to a Buc legend.
Just suggesting he brings some of the same talent with more speed. Mainly like Ronde he’s versatile. I like guys who play all over the field. They can help cover some weaker positions.

This sounds like a replacement for Whitehead, but better in coverage.

I don’t watch college as I usually work every Saturday, so never got into it. I did however watch some film on a kid named Taylor allgeier (RB) from BYU. I came away impressed. The kid isn’t super fast but he always seems to get extra yardage and his hands looked legit..

He was born in Tampa too, so it would be awesome to bring in a hometown dude like this in the 3rd or 4th.
