Jameis Winston Gets Low-Level Starter Money In New Orleans
March 21st, 2022Injured Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback, is returning for his third season in New Orleans to compete for a starting job.
Damn, the NFC South has a bunch of weaksauce quarterbacks outside of Tampa.
Jameis, 28, got $21 million guaranteed as part of a two-year, $28 million contract. He and Taysom Hill will vie for the heart of new head coach Dennis Allen.
Yes, today’s chatter out of New Orleans says Jameis will have the job and Hill is out of that conversation. But Joe is not buying it, not with Jameis coming off an ACL tear courtesy of Buccaneers savior linebacker Devin White on Halloween.
If Jameis isn’t ready for training camp, then the starting gig is likely to be a very open conversation.
Joe loves the state of the Saints’ quarterback situation, and Marcus Mariota as the lead dog in Atlanta and Sam Darnold looking over his shoulder in Carolina. The only thing better would be the Panthers bringing in Ryan Fitzpatrick to mentor Darnold.
March 21st, 2022 at 5:27 pm
Call it Low level money all you like. 14 mil a yr ain’t bad at all. Hell, I’ll take it.
March 21st, 2022 at 5:33 pm
Can we PLEASE stop referring to Winston as “America’s Quarterback” — I don’t think anyone outside the French Quarter gives a darn….
March 21st, 2022 at 5:35 pm
Thomas the more you ask the more it will make it in articles
March 21st, 2022 at 5:35 pm
That is a big raise from last year.
March 21st, 2022 at 5:36 pm
If the Saints defense simply injures one star on each opposing team in every game then they could go deep in the playoffs. Seems do-able by the Saints. The only problem they face is the refs and the damn assault and battery laws in each state
March 21st, 2022 at 5:37 pm
He’ll be just 30 when it expires, he has a chance to excel, get HUGE money
March 21st, 2022 at 5:38 pm
This contract tells you Winston’s only options were being a potential starter in NOLA or a backup somewhere else. Taysom Hill earns almost the same amount of money.
March 21st, 2022 at 5:41 pm
Joe, we don’t want to see that face. Not sure what you like about him.
March 21st, 2022 at 5:43 pm
I’ll throw an INT a game for that kind of money
March 21st, 2022 at 5:45 pm
Jamies was beating the brakes off us last year before he got hurt. He threw 2 touchdowns on us and one was a long pass. We haven’t beat the Rams or Saints since Brady been here. So let’s not start talking trash until we actually beat them.
March 21st, 2022 at 5:46 pm
Wow – he got a substantial raise and he is coming off of a knee surgery…
I’m so pleased to see the Saints so desperate and screwed.
The QB market is like a game of musical chairs. The music stopped and all the seats were taken.
Opppps…
LOL!
Suck it Saint fan! You just overpaid America’s turnover machine!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
March 21st, 2022 at 5:47 pm
Wonder how Jameis will do without Payton guidance.
Happy for “America’s Quarterback” (what a joke)……he should have switched from crab legs to crayfish by now…..
March 21st, 2022 at 5:49 pm
QB – M. Mariota and Atlanta agree on a two year deal…
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
The NFC South is primed to be dominated!!!
LFG!!!!
March 21st, 2022 at 5:57 pm
Hilarious indeed
March 21st, 2022 at 6:01 pm
Lest we forget … BEFORE Tom Brady CHOSE to un-retire and return to the Bucs, WE were apparently looking at Gabbert to start. Making fun of opponents might be fun, but we’re only one step removed from being in the same boat.
Karma can be a real bitch to the ungracious.
March 21st, 2022 at 6:04 pm
who?
March 21st, 2022 at 6:05 pm
Oneilbuc talking about his favorite QB again…..boy, there’s a surprise.
March 21st, 2022 at 6:07 pm
He’s making more than Brady. Gotta fix that
March 21st, 2022 at 6:11 pm
Jameis in New Orleans
Mariota in Atlanta
Darnold in Carolina
Tom Brady in Tampa
We’ve come a long way from consistently having the worst QB in the NFC South to having the ONLY QB worth his salt on the NFL, and that QB is also the GOAT.
You can’t make this stuff up
March 21st, 2022 at 6:13 pm
He is making $11M less than Brady. I know MarineBuc is blinded with hatred of JW but he made $15M last year. If you’re going to bash the guy at least get your facts straight.
March 21st, 2022 at 6:13 pm
The 11M less is got Nicholas.
March 21st, 2022 at 6:24 pm
I love Deshaun Watson, as a Clemson fan, but 4X more value than Jameis annually, for more years, while the massage stuff is still out there… makes no sense.
March 21st, 2022 at 6:25 pm
Oneil sure bout that I remember Bucs beating the saints in the way to the suoerbowl but we know you have a man crush on jaymiss. Payton ain’t there no more to reel him in with the dump offs. Def. Back to 30 plus picks
March 21st, 2022 at 6:25 pm
OneLilBuc…still the Wonderlic all time low score holder ( and since they don’t give the test anymore…I guess that makes him The GOAT )…must be awfully sore that Brady un-retired. Couple that with a Winny update…and it’s just too much for the big fella.
March 21st, 2022 at 6:28 pm
Yeah Don’t worry about the PLAYOFF win, after all that’s not the one that Really Matters or anything Lol
March 21st, 2022 at 6:28 pm
He should thank the lord no less than 3 times a day!!
Lucky guy to get paíd that money being less thanks average!!
And I dont hate him Joe!!!!
March 21st, 2022 at 6:29 pm
It doesn’t matter who their QB’s are. We need to win all the games in our division. Our schedule is too tough to take any team lightly. And if our QB retires again after this season we will be in the same boat as the saints, panthers and falcons. Except we will have less cap space.
March 21st, 2022 at 6:30 pm
Defense Rules, enjoy our division rivals pain while we can. Gracious people end up with bad luck too.
March 21st, 2022 at 6:41 pm
Jerseybuc . It was a good play by Antoine Winfield Jr the defense stepped up . But what happened last year when Brady couldn’t even score a touchdown 🤔 . Are how about the pick 6 he threw to end the game when yall said that’s what Jamies was going to do remember?? So to me yall need to hold up on the trash talking until we play them because so far we are 0 – 4 against the saints in the regular season. And they beat us without a quarterback remember?? Soon yall will learn that 1 player does not win games it takes the team.
March 21st, 2022 at 6:46 pm
Unreasonable Joe went to FSU. Jay-Miss went to FSU.
In the words of Lovie Smith, “Simple as that.”
March 21st, 2022 at 6:50 pm
Oneibuc, we beat N.O. at N.O. on our way to the S.B..
March 21st, 2022 at 6:50 pm
BelleGladeBuc,
In case you missed my reply in that older post about our argument over Davis being overrated, and then you trying to state that any usage of quotation marks when referencing someone for something they didn’t say is calling them a “LIAR”… and then posting how you checked with your Grandma who taught English and she confirmed you’re right and I’m wrong…
And then you make a comment about how “honor” is very important to your family (implying again that I called you a liar when I didn’t) and then you state because I’ve been “privileged” and wouldn’t understand…
Here was my reply I posted to make sure you see it because I feel it’s very important.
=====
BelleCLOWNBuc,
Dude, I’m sorry but you’re truly an idiot. Context, structure, and mood in writing matter. The sentence wasn’t structured as “He said…” as some sort of definitive, exact quote of someone’s words.
This is exactly what I wrote:
————————-
I particularly love how he says “but…but…but… Ronde said he’s great so he has to be.”
————————-
If you, or anyone else, honestly don’t interpret the usage of a quote that starts with “but… but…but…” as some sort of sarcasm or belittled inference of someone else’s point of view and NOT someone’s exact words, then you truly are DUMB and UNEDUCATED.
And what’s with you calling me “privileged” you don’t know anything about me or my family.
I’ll have you know, we were a lower middle class family because my father was a truck driver for a rubber duck manufacturer in Tampa.
I’ll also have you know, I have serious PTSD from what happened in June 1997. My father was on his way to make a delivery down Dale Mabry Highway one summer afternoon and some guy in a large SUV ran a red light and t-boned his truck. It was a massive collision and thousands of rubber ducks went all over the road, the sides of the road, in the median, and scattered EVERYWHERE.
I showed up at the scene, my father was perfectly fine, but just seeing all those yellow rubber ducks everywhere really bothered me because I know my father was responsible for transporting them, and now here they were scattered all over the place, cars running over them and popping them, people taking photos of all the rubber ducks all over the highway thinking it was funny.
It wasn’t funny, it was tragic. It represented a hard-working man’s job that was being made a mockery of. To this day I can’t even look at a yellow rubber duck without getting upset and needing to walk away to ‘reset’ myself to try and calm down and lower my anxiety.
And to be perfectly honest… my PTSD also relates to the squeaky sound that rubber ducks make when you squeeze them. It’s a very similar sound to what a clown’s nose makes when squeezed.
That’s probably the very reason why YOU give me anxiety too.
March 21st, 2022 at 6:50 pm
And how much did He want the Bucs to pay him at the end of the 2019 season?
March 21st, 2022 at 6:51 pm
It’s a shame that a jackass like Jay-miss is able to make 14 million per year. Kinda makes me sick of athletes.
March 21st, 2022 at 6:55 pm
Jameis 21 million
local hater trailer park residents. $15,000.00
March 21st, 2022 at 6:58 pm
Dang the fake Americas QB makes Almost as much as real Americas QB, The Goat.
March 21st, 2022 at 7:03 pm
Awesome, one more reason to despise the saints. I wasted five years of my football life watching this ultra talented dude fail miserably year after year to become a consistently good, franchise quarterback. Jokes on me for supporting him for so long and thinking that there was no way in hell that we could ever have another Vinny Testaverde.
We got revenge on the saints in the playoffs, but they own us in the regular season. Pulling our heads out of our butts and sweeping the saints would be so much sweeter with Jameis leading them.
March 21st, 2022 at 7:12 pm
Wait; wut?
We didn’t re-sign him as a back up?
Wow….
(j/k)
March 21st, 2022 at 7:16 pm
Jameis isn’t weak sauce Joe. He led the NFL in passing a few years ago and was doing well prior to injury. I hope he does well.
March 21st, 2022 at 7:19 pm
Joe !! I hope you aren’t going to give us Jamies articles weekly now that he is in division. He is not a buc anymore don’t need to read about him.

Oneilbucyall, Saints game one, Simeon won that game NOT Winsten. He was actually starting to unravel. Second, Brady got the lead with under 2 min left. The D let Saints go right down the field and score. Brady had 1:40 to comeback. I know it maybe commonplace for him but the odds are pretty slim with that little time against a great D to stage a comeback. You keep saying Bucs haven’t beaten the Saints & Rams since Brady arrived but isn’t really since BA had arrived? He’s out coached everytime.
March 21st, 2022 at 7:40 pm
Well said there SB. Fortunes can turn on a dime in this NFL. I remember us bragging about beating the Rams in the SB until..Their Defense showed us what ours use to look like when we won our 1st one. You never know. Ole Jameis might have the last laugh after all. Brady is only one big hit away from Retirement. We place all our chips on Offense. And very few on the Defense. Might come back to bite us in the A..like it did last year.
March 21st, 2022 at 7:41 pm
Hey Buc nation… Leave jaboo alone…
March 21st, 2022 at 7:45 pm
I would still want Gabbert over any other NFC SOUTH QB in the absence of Brady.
He knows our system even better then Americas pick 6 machine.
March 21st, 2022 at 7:51 pm
He’ll throw picks all day without Payton at the helm! The SOUTH IS IN TROUBLE!!! THE GOAT VS JAYMISS, MARCUS, and SAM?! Pfff LFG
March 21st, 2022 at 7:54 pm
Listnfrmafar
Actually the last time we beat the Rams in the regular season Jameis was the QB and BA was the coach. I was at that game loud and proud of our Bucs..
It’s time we beat them and the Saints in the regular season.
March 21st, 2022 at 7:54 pm
Not exactly the 25 mil. he was rumored to be demanding from us. But let’s face it… he may be a placeholder until they get the next franchise QB. Without Payton and Brees, will he slip back into his old ways? The chances are pretty good. We will see if he has really learned… or if it was a short term one year wonder?
March 21st, 2022 at 8:01 pm
All this comparison with “What if we had only Blaine Gabbert at QB”.
Factoid: Gabbert is a GREAT QB to sit with Tom Brady in between down sets. The man has a rocket scientist brain. In the Wonderlich intelligence test used in past years on NFL prospects, Gabbert scored 48 out of 50 (99th percentile).
So what does this mean? Gabbert may not have the QB abilities of Brady, Rodgers, or Bree, but he’s the smartest man in the entire NFL, including owners and League executives. The PERFECT GUY to analyze opportunities during each game with Brady. A PERFECT QB WINGMAN. A KEEPER.
EL CAZADOR. Bucs fan in El Lay.
March 21st, 2022 at 8:10 pm
Can he do it without Sean reigning him in????? The go for broke attitude of DAllen plays right into the Turnover riddled version of Jmiss….
March 21st, 2022 at 8:10 pm
I know Jameis was a turnover machine here but he has a big heart and I’m happy for him. He also has one helluva defense to back him up. If he matures as a QB he can light it up. Jameis made some great plays when he was here, just too many stupid ones that no one forgets.
March 21st, 2022 at 8:16 pm
it is easy to forget how horrible he could be and how bloated his production was by means of racking up yards when trailing by 2 TDs
this feels like desperation from NO
Winston is a backup in the NFL

Saints may regress with Jameis, but they don’t need a QB with that defense playing Bountygate.
Falcons regressed. Ryan will be good for Indy. Mariota, awful.
Darnold is an improvement for the Panthers, and need to be concerned.
March 21st, 2022 at 9:59 pm
Gabbert is so good nobody else wants him to start for them. Not even as a bridge . Look who Atlanta just signed! And players were ready to leave if Brady didn’t come back. Even with all the BA selling him. I would take my chances with Trask before Gabbert.
March 21st, 2022 at 10:01 pm
That’s the thing the bucs let go of the good QB’s and finally 1 so called good 1 lol came to them cuz the superbowl was there and was a given one and bought like he does “his” team lol are Shady will leave its his way not the bucs way lol 9-0 lol only shutout
March 21st, 2022 at 10:13 pm
I’m listening to you guys who thinks they know everything about football, but remember you were were close to being in a very bad place again. Now you guys are on top of the world again (so you say). You wanted Winston out of Tampa any yet you are still bashing him. He’s moved on trying to make as much money for his family as possible. Please guys grow up and stop living your life through sports.

Aaron – try typing in English.
March 21st, 2022 at 11:01 pm
The Saints coaching and roster is still very good and probably second best behind Tampa now in NFC South with Brady. Winston if not hurt could’ve game managed his way into the wildcard.
He’s not a bad QB and he signed to very strong roster. Prior to Brady friends joining in 2020, the Saints had the better roster and still do if Brady and friends didn’t return.
The NFC is exceptionally weak at the QB position.
Atlanta Falcons: Marcus Mariotta
Arizona Cardinals: Kyler Murray
Carolina Panthers: Sam Darnold
Chicago Bears: Justin Fields
Dallas Cowboys: Dak Prescott
Detroit Lions: Jared Goff
Green Bay Packers: Aaron Rodgers
Los Angeles Rams: Matthew Stafford
Minnesota Vikings: Kirk Cousins
New Orleans Saints: Jameis Winston
New York Giants: Daniel Jones
Philadelphia Eagles: Jalen Hurts
San Francisco 49ers: Jimmy Garoppolo/Trey Lance
Seattle Seahawks: Drew Lock/Geno Smith
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Tom Brady
Washington Commanders: Carson Wentz
NFC QBs better than Winston in 2022 in the NFC, Brady, Rodgers, Stafford, Cousins, Prescott (maybe), Murray(maybe) Winston is a Wentz level starter he is good but needs an expert team around him.
Playing on the Saints in a weak NFC is great for him as it allows him to become a near playoff QB every year with the Saints.
March 21st, 2022 at 11:13 pm
A lot of butthurt Saints/Winston fans in here lol
The only people who should be mad are the Bucs fans who had to watch the ATM administer 111 turnovers in 72 games as a Buccaneer. But we’re not really mad because our team delivered a Super Bowl the moment the ATM split town, but yeah the Bucs were the problem.
March 21st, 2022 at 11:16 pm
Winston has huge upside, good signing by the Saints.
March 22nd, 2022 at 1:38 am
@SKBucs
“…next year we will be in same position as Falcons/Saints”
I could not disagree more here’s why. WE have already drafted a qb who gets a 2nd year to sit and learn from the GOAT. This alone puts us light years ahead of all 3 NFC teams [knock on wood he can play]
I see both moves today as fixes or trying to find life after Ryan/Brees even Carolina is still seeking their next franchise QB w Cam on roster for a second time. Go figure.
In conclusion it’s all in perspective and to me we have planned ahead for the future and seem to be setting up a nice 3-5 year run of NFC South DOMINATNCE. We are in yr 2 if it WITH 1 Chip secured.
Serves us right as we went thru years of [McCown etc. while they all had former MVP’s
Buckle your seat belts Bucs Nation. We gonna be here awhile.
March 22nd, 2022 at 3:09 am
This should be fun, we all know Dennis Allen is a good d-coordinator, he aint no sean payton and he will have no influence on Winston who after scoring on guaranteed money will do whatever he wants, including airing it out to quadruple coverage on a routine basis. Winston has been tamed enough and he will be ready to let it fly, I can’t wait! I like seeing the saints lose easily as much as I like seeing the Bucs win.
March 22nd, 2022 at 7:29 am
I root for Jameis to succeed except against us. It was sad to see him get injured on a horse collar tackle, the saints could have been the team in the playoffs instead of the eagles.
March 22nd, 2022 at 8:52 am
