Russell Gage Looks Up To Mike Evans And Chris Godwin

March 21st, 2022

Big fan of Bucs receivers.

Of course, last week when new Bucs receiver Russell Gage spoke about signing his new contract, he was over the moon about getting a chance to catch passes from the greatest, Tom Brady.

But there was a secondary reason why he was so geeked. Of course, he watched the Bucs’ stud receivers, Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, from across the field twice a year. And seeing how both played so well together and developed into possibly the NFL’s most feared one-two punch was not lost on Gage.

In fact, after what turned out to be his last game against the Bucs, Gage made sure to reach out to Godwin to tell him (and indirectly Evans) how much he admired their games.

“As a receiver, you watch guys, and you try to mimic things,” Gage said of watching Evans and Godwin. “You learn things from different guys, and I’ve always admired the way they jell together as teammates. As players, they grow.

“I played them twice a year, and I get to see those guys in action. They do so well. I just wanted to express that to them after a game, not knowing that I’d be on the same team as them.”

Joe has a hunch this Gage signing is huge. This guy can ball. And he’s so versatile. He can play anywhere.

When the Bucs first signed Gage, Joe primarily thought Gage was insurance against Godwin. He could be a lot more than that.

After all, Brady has a knack for raising guys’ games.

That’s the kind of player I love to follow. Glad he’s on our team. He will definitely be a positive influence in the other young WRs.

  2. Brevard Buc Says:

This guy is a baller. I hope we stay healthy. Adding Gage to a healthy WR room will make us more lethal than we already are.

    DARE I say … better!

    Night and day from AB

Gage is a Godwin clone who never had the opportunity as a full time starter. Watch out week 1 to 5 when he is given the Godwin role in this offense. He can run crisp routes, run block and stretch the field. Makes great contested catches for his height and can work with the ball in his hands. We could have 3 1k receivers next year.

  5. Bucs Win Says:

    Very good signing.

  6. Marine Buc Says:

Evans and Godwin are both taller so Gage should be looking up to them…

  7. Ash Says:

If they draft Zion in the first this offense is going to be epic.

  8. Casual Observer Says:

Good insight, Joe. Agree with you on Gage.

  9. Will Says:

I also love this signing. Can he be used in the return game? Our not so special, special teams could definitely use the help.

    Marine……beat me to the punch…..

Aside from his play on the field, Gage seems to be the anti Antonio. This may be the first time a team has had a trio of wide receivers with this much talent and not a diva among them.

    @ TBBF

    LOL!

    Couldn’t help myself…

Godwin and Evans are awesome as Buc fans. Team first. Go to work every day, stay out of trouble. Awesome individuals and players. I hope Gage is the real deal and the same type of player!! Go Bucs!!!

Perfect attitude for this team. AB take note!!!!!!! Oh yeah, I forgot you don’t know the meaning of the word team!!!!

I don’t see this guy midseason during a game taking his gear off and doing jumpin jacks on way out of stadium waving to his boatload of fans

  16. PSL Bob Says:

Sounds like we’ve got an “us” type of WR (i.e. team first) and not another AB type “me” player.

  17. Rayjay1122 Says:

When healthy, TB12 having ME13, Godwin, Gage, Perriman and Grayson to throw the rock to, easily the Premier WR Corp top to bottom in the NFC if not the NFL.

  18. Listnfrmafar Says:
