Logan Ryan Wanted A Ring
March 18th, 2022When new Bucs safety Logan Ryan was cut by the Giants yesterday, provided Ryan wasn’t given a heads-up by his agent, it appears he wasted little time talking with Bucs quarterback Tom Brady.
Why does Joe think that? If you go by the timeline of Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post, Ryan was unemployed for only a few hours. And then there was this telling detail from Dunleavy:
One source close to Ryan told The Post that, while the New Jersey native’s preference was to stay with the Giants, he is welcoming an opportunity to chase a third Super Bowl ring rather than spend his age-31 season in a teardown rebuild.
So who else would you call if you were chasing a ring than Brady?
And given the fact Ryan was already working out locally with former Bucs receiver Yo Murphy’s outfit, this is about as quick as you will see a player flip teams without being traded.
Ryan, a former Brady teammate, knows all about and why the Bucs are so damn successful.
Joe doesn’t know if the Giants tried to trade Ryan to the Bucs after Jordan Whitehead signed with the Jets or not. And Joe has no idea if Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht had been tipped off the Giants were going to cut Ryan and that Licht was waiting to pounce,
The speed of Ryan flipping teams makes it hard to believe Brady wasn’t involved in some way.
You want a ring? You play for Tom Brady. That’s all there is to it.

Joe … ‘You want a ring? You play for Tom Brady. That’s all there is to it.’
What a great bottom line Joe.

Brady has a lookout in the Crows Nest of the Pirate Ship in the N end zone.

I see people on here saying he is washed.
Have you looked at last 3 years and beyond
Last 3 years in tackles:
113 tackles- 2019
94 tackles – 2020
117 tackles – 2021
He is known for tackling. He got multiple forced fumbles last few years. And 4 or more years ago , he had 4 sacks and 4.5 sacks
Dude was a captain last year on a dysfunctional garbage team. Not sure there will be much drop off or any at all with losing whitehead. And whitehead was one of my favorite players

Campbell or Cox next? That’s a pipe dream but who knows.

lets get a couple mercenaries an the dline…. A little concerned about our pass rush..

Wanting a ring is absolutely the best motivation for a player to have…..not money, not market…..a ring….that means they want to win and winning is a team sport…..this guy will be a good pickup.

Thank you.

Cox is going back to philly and Campbell????? I don’t know about him…. He’s getting long in the tooth. If he is willing to come in and be part of a rotation and is cheap, then he would be great.

I put his name in a YouTube search, and the Giants fans were saying he sucks now.

“I put his name in a YouTube search, and the Giants fans were saying he sucks now.”
the words Giants and Sucks kind of go hand in hand though…..

PFF grades for Ryan, 2021:
Targets: 43. Receptions allowed: 35 (#10 in league). Solo tackles: 85, which means he’s a very good tackler.
PFF Grade: 60.4
Seems like a solid pickup.

Bottom line is Logan upgrades the secondary, yes it is good to resign some, but lets get real, the secondary was a beat up liability. And the last pass to Cooper Kupp says it all.
Who how Logan will impact the secondary and team, but it is a move in the right direction. They must overhaul the secondary somehow, someway over the next few years, that it would be a strength not a liability. Watching a Super Bowl go down the drain in 1 play after a heroic comeback was not easy to stomach. As good as winfield is, it was a horrible look.
GO BUCS!!!!!

I liked Whitehead and didn’t want him to leave, but Ryan is a much more fundamentally sound football player. Gray tackler, good hands, better than whiteheads, and obviously a proven leader. And frankly he’s not that old for a safety, which has recent stats prove on a crap football team.

“You want a ring? You play for Tom Brady. That’s all there is to it.”
That is a classic line.

I’ve watched Ryan for years through fantasy. He’s going to get you 8 tackles a game. Pair that with Winfield jr. , LVD and hopefully a smarter D. White and that’s 95% of you tackles per game. Great pickup even if he’s no spring chicken.
Now go get DT Matt Ioannidis who was just waived by the Commenders. They lied to him telling him he’s safe then cutting him after FA already started. This guy is just what we need. Versatile, quick inside guy who won’t break the bank.

Exactly what we needed from a smart, vet, 2x Super Bowl teammate with Tom in the young secondary.
A way to continue killin it would be an above average/good CB before the draft. Dean is second string material.

I guess we aren’t signing Honey Badger

Man, it is crazy how fast things can switch around. Last Saturday when I thought about sitting in the hot azz stadium watching Gabbert or God forbid Trask, I wanted to stick my head in the oven, today we’re good for at least two playoff wins and they’re still adding players. What a wonderful world!!
March 18th, 2022 at 11:37 am
@Stanglassman Get DT Matt Ioannidis! I am with you on that
March 18th, 2022 at 11:38 am
The Rams are still doing Rams things. We need to keep up. Them signing Allen Robinson was a good move. But they lost Miller so that neuters the pass rush a bit. Kupp is a phenomenal receiver of course, but he’ll see an unprecedented level of attention next season. I still like our corps of receivers over there’s in total.
March 18th, 2022 at 11:41 am
I like Ioniddis too, particularly if Suh doesn’t re-sign.

SOE- Disagree. Dean played really well and was arguable our best corner last yr. You must be mistaking Dean for Murphy Bunting or Cockrell, because I really don’t know what you’re on with that pure rubbish opinion

SOE- Totally AGREE NOT a Rubbish Opinion,Anyone can go and watch the film from the last several years, go watch every play, every game. Dean improved last year, but….. #1 he needs to stay healthy and #2 do not played scared 10 yards off the receiver crap when you have good speed. Dean has plenty of speed, it is about confidence. And he has not played consistently good game in and game out. Just go watch the film for the last several tears, play by play, game by game.
GO BUCS!!!!

Watching Ryan develope on the Patriots all I can say is he will be a wonderful addition to the team!!
March 18th, 2022 at 12:20 pm
This is an AWESOME move. A seasoned defensive backfill CAPTAIN, two time SB Champ, good friend of TB12’s who will immediately captain/coach up the leaky and young Buc secondary and, importantly, instill the need for proper COMMUNICATION among the dbs and also with the sideline! Imagine Logan Ryan on the field for that last LA Ram winning drive!
After Tom recruiting the biggest steal of free agency, Shaq Mason, from the Pats for a fifth round pick, I was ecstatic. But Ryan Logan?? Bucs just absolutely upgraded their defense which will only get better and better under player/coach Ryan who will want to excel and add to the competitive intangibles which Brady has already brought to Tampa!
Now, one monster edge rusher, or two great DL/DE picks in the draft and the Bucs will be good to go. Also, Aaron Rodgers losing his ‘one trick pony’ in Davonte Adams just increased the Bucs overall odds to reach and win another SB!
March 18th, 2022 at 2:01 pm
Calais Campbell, Suh and Gholston next. All are older players but they would be a great rotation with a day one or two interior defensive lineman in the draft.
March 18th, 2022 at 2:06 pm
Why would the Giants cut him when they only saved $200k on the cap? Their defense was trash with him, and he was a captain, and they decided in order to fix the defense they needed to get rid of him.
I’d hold off on the hyperbole, at least until we start hearing what’s going on in practice. But I doubt he was brought in to start — but if does, if he plays any meaningful role, it’s a steal for the Bucs.
March 18th, 2022 at 2:43 pm
So to answer my own question, I did some more reading…
I was wrong, he saved the Giants $700k, but cost them an $11.5m cap hit. He did play almost every play on defense – a very bad defense, mind you.
But why would they cut a captain when they didn’t hardly save anything off the cap? Because it sounds like they’re trying to free up 2023 cap space in NY, and if they had kept him and cut him next year, they’d have taken a big cap hit. Also he had a big bonus do today, so they had to cut him before that if they didn’t want him. Kind of a crappy thing to do, to wait until after FA starts to cut him, but I’m guessing the Bucs got quite the deal on him.

It’s interesting how the league is changing… Free agency was supposed to bring parity to the league, but it seems the money is so large no matter where a player goes, that at some point the ring becomes worth a lot more.
No way to balance that… so good teams will continue to draw higher quality players for less money.
The Jets and the Lions etc. will be stinking for a looong time it seems.
Good for us though!

Ryan dropped off a little bit, but he was on a sub-par team. He’ll bring leadership and toughness, and the man knows what winning is about.
