Bucs Sniffing Around A Texas A&M RB
March 18th, 2022Now Joe has to wonder if the Bucs cooled their heels on this kid because Playoff Lenny may want to return to play with Tom Brady, or do the Bucs hope this guy replaces Ronald Jones?
Aaron Wilson, a well-plugged-in NFL scribe in the Houston area who now works for Pro Football Network, had an interesting Twitter last night. From his sources, two NFC South teamst have been doing serious research on Texas A&M running back Isaiah Spiller.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Atlanta Falcons have displayed steady interest throughout draft process in Texas A&M running back Isaiah Spiller, according to a league source @AggieFootball @isaiah_spiller #Buccaneers #Falcons

This Spiller — no relation to former Clemson star and Buffalo bust C.J. Spiller — seems to be pretty damn consistent. He ran for no less than 946 yards in his three seasons with the Aggies and his yards per carry by the season were 5.4, 5.5 and 5.6 running against SEC defenses.
Spiller caught a decent amount of passes at Texas A&M as well, including his high point as a freshman when he caught 29 passes. Charlie Campbell of Walter Football types that Spiller is an Arian Foster-type back who has advanced pass-blocking skills.
Some team sources said Spiller reminds them of Foster. It makes sense, as Foster was a big back who was a skilled receiver. Spiller is similar. He runs a little tougher than Foster did, while Foster had more speed. In the NFL, it would not surprise me if Spiller ends up being similar, but maybe not quite as good, as Foster was in his prime with the Texans.
If Playoff Lenny doesn’t return, it is hard for Joe to believe that Ke’Shawn Vaughn will be the bellcow back. Oh, he could be a No. 1 back but it doesn’t seem like Arians is cool with one running back carrying all the mail. So it doesn’t surprise Joe that the Bucs are kicking tires on running backs.

I watched this kid squash my beloved Gators chances of a CFP bid. Kyle Trask definitely knows the kid. He was unstoppable that game. Totally took control IIRC. I know Mike Evans has vouched for him. I think he would look great and pewter and red.

If ME13 vouches for him, that’s good enough for me.
March 18th, 2022 at 5:43 am
Didn’t run the 40 at the combine saying abdominal injury but participated in the vertical and broad jump? My guess hes not very fast.
March 18th, 2022 at 5:57 am
Allbuccedup- For what it’s worth, 40 times don’t always tell the story. You can see he’s not fast but it looks like he cuts well and has good vision.
As we have learned, however, success at the college level doesn’t always translate to the NFL.

no thanks…mid round steals…the BYU back.
March 18th, 2022 at 6:07 am
Makes sense. Especially if no lenny they will still need vet FE rb like Sony which is ok. Then they will need rb in draft. In no lenny they may just draft Michigan St running back in 1st.
March 18th, 2022 at 6:17 am
we need 4 yards a carry …. if he can average that ,we can use him
March 18th, 2022 at 6:30 am
I’ve had my eyes on him as a target for the Bucs for a while now. The big thing he offers for us? Pass blocking. He’s absolutely worth it if he’s there in the 2nd.
March 18th, 2022 at 6:36 am
Can’t coach speed!
March 18th, 2022 at 6:38 am
Bucs won’t pick a running back until the fourth round thats why they are looking at Spiller.

i know we reached with dan vitale a few years back…

#AnotherAlstottPlease

big bruiser*
March 18th, 2022 at 6:57 am
Maybeeeehhhhh

At the Probowl 4 guys ran the 40, I think Parsons from Dallas was one, I don’t remember the other two but Tyree Hill was the fourth. Hill came in dead last. So much for 40 speed. Wasted pick if you have Brady, he needs a seasoned RB that can catch & block. No time for rookies if the goal is to win NOW.
March 18th, 2022 at 7:45 am
Don’t waste a 2nd rd pick on a RB. Lots of good ones available on day 3.

List
Nice to have you contributing with comments other than BA…..keep it up….
March 18th, 2022 at 8:15 am
DaBux, spot on.
March 18th, 2022 at 8:24 am
Looks more like Le’Veon Bell. Impressed most by the fact that he makes the first guy miss, especially after the catch which is huge for moving the chains. Will it translate to the NFL?
March 18th, 2022 at 8:30 am
He’s be a good back in this system, w/ Brady and under Arians.
Really any of Hall, Spiller, Williams, Walker, White, Cook, or Strong Jr. would be cool. But I like Spiller. He can do everything needed and asked if him by BA and TB. I LOVE his feet in the whole or when making defenders miss. He’s a good, humble kid too. Only thing he doesn’t have really is that home run or long straight line speed (much like Kyrin Williams, but in a little bit bigger body.
I’d be more than happy to get Spiller in the 2nd round!
March 18th, 2022 at 8:57 am
Really hope we can trade our 1st, move back early 2nd, pick up a late 3rd or early 4th, this draft has a lot of meat on the bone, players 30-100 are pretty comparable, I can definitely see Lions moving up for a QB to groom and get that 5th year option
March 18th, 2022 at 10:10 am
It’s not news they’re interested in RBs… They’ve been linked to a handful so far. I see them picking one between rounds 2 and 4.
March 18th, 2022 at 10:26 am
Runs high, looks like a torn ACL waiting to happen. I prefer a stocky back who can pass protect with leverage and lower his shoulder while running.
March 18th, 2022 at 10:35 am
Watched him at A&M. Great kid, tough, versatile, good hands.
March 18th, 2022 at 11:02 am
GIVE ME DAMEON PIERCE.
More of y’all should go watch tape on this kid. Don’t discount him just because he’s a Gator.
March 18th, 2022 at 11:18 am
I see C. PATTERSON in our future.

THE UNCOMFORTABLE TRUTH …
Licht is a genius at drafting LB, OL, and WR. When it comes to evaluating RBs, he’s the worst. Vaughn, Rojo, McNichols, Iosefa, Sims – 5 backs, 4 fails (so far).
Watching the highlights, Spiller isn’t an NFL back. He’s bread and butter, that little stop step, gets BLOWN UP by DBs who run 4.4s and he doesn’t break tackles.
My advice: Find out whoever Seattle likes and draft that guy.
March 18th, 2022 at 12:29 pm
Brian Robinson, big guy just flying under the radar….i love it…maybe he’ll last to the 4th…then watch him blow up.
March 18th, 2022 at 3:21 pm
Every run was at least a first down!
March 18th, 2022 at 3:33 pm
Was not impressed with his film at all, I’m not sure how smoothly his style will transition to the NFL. Breece Hall, Kenneth Walker, and Brian Robinson are the only 3 back that really look like game changers imo. Hopefully we can land one of them
March 18th, 2022 at 7:51 pm
Not very shifty and doesn’t seem to be very fast.
March 18th, 2022 at 11:26 pm
^^^^
This!
Brian Robinson with our 2nd after Logan Hall with our first….Some do their due diligence around here….those two last posters, yep!
