Ryan Jensen: Bucs Will Rebuild Offensive Line

March 15th, 2022

Ready to rock with Tom Brady.

Bucs fans, it is alright to have faith. Because your Pro Bowl center has faith.

Ryan Jensen had a zoom call from his home today and with one of the coolest background objects Joe can remember a Bucs player having. It was a photo of the Bucs’ offensive line (including tight end Rob Gronkowski) down in a three-point stance with Tom Brady under center.

Clearly, Jensen was in a good mood after just re-signing with the Bucs. And even though the Bucs lost both starting guards — Pro Bowl left guard Ali Marpet to retirement and right guard Alex Cappa in free agency to Cincinnati — Jensen has faith that between Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht and the coaching staff, Tampa Bay will be just fine.

“I have zero doubt” the line will excel, Jensen said. One reason is he believes the Bucs have a solid starter waiting to take over in backup guard Aaron Stinnie.

“Stinnie, obviously in the Super Bowl run, he stepped in and there was little to no drop off when Alex [Cappa] got hurt,” Jensen said. “I think we will be able to fill that spot [starting guards] pretty seamlessly and we have a good coaching staff and a great front office. So I am sure we will be back to firing on full cylinders relatively quickly.”

Now Jensen was asked if with Tom Brady back and his ability to recruit if Ali Marpet may come out of retirement. Jensen basically said they would love to have Marpet back but it seems Marpet has his post-football life already figured out, echoing what NFL Network reported.

So Bucs fans, if Jensen (and by proxy, Brady) are confident in the offensive line for 2022 (Brady is confident enough to return), you may sleep easy.

  1. SOEbuc Says:

Highly unlikely Marpet is coming out of retirement. He very likely knew Brady was coming back before he retired in the first place.

  2. Bird Says:

Dream scenario is guard from BC falling to us in draft

If not , trade out of first for extra picks
Guard/ d tackle/ db/ third receiver (unless we get one in free agency for cheap)

And you know they want to appease brady w third receiver.

Cause three solid receivers and gronk and brady under center is perfect recipe for another run to super bowl. Even with tough schedule

  3. Allbuccedup Says:

At least cornerback now is not a top priority so we can concentrate on defensive tackle and offensive guard with the first two picks.

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Bully for Ali…….Mongo got a candygram….it said….retire while you’re still healthy……all that money won’t help if you have CTE…..
I really admire him for his decision.

Our oline is the very least of our concerns…..we need to fill in at TE, RB, DT & if we don’t get Whitehead back….need another S.

    Still some work to do.

  5. SOEbuc Says:

Can we swing Hainsey over to playing some LT now that Jensen has resigned? Not looking to resign Donnie when his contract is up and OT is what Hainsey was captain ND Oline.

  6. Goatfarmer Says:

    LFG!!!

  7. Joe Says:

Can we swing Hainsey over to playing some LT now that Jensen has resigned? Not looking to resign Donnie when his contract is up and OT is what Hainsey was captain ND Oline.

Joe can assure you the powerbrokers at One Buc Palace do not share this view.

  8. Rod Says:

Hainsey most likely will factor inside at guard or center has short arms for tackle if he remains as backup center we’ll have depth there if he moves to left guard we’d need depth at guard and center Go Bucs

  9. HC Grover Says:

Gronk….He’ll be Baaack. Now if we could find a fullback like Csonka who can catch and block. Monsters.

  10. SlyPirate Says:

Tampabaybucfan … You’re right. Marpet had a concussion that kept him out 3 games last season. I don’t know what symptoms he had but it was enough to frighten him into retirement. CTEs are bad news. Stay retired Ali.

  11. SickofLosing Says:

Dam people still hating on D Smith and trying to run him out of town

  12. BuxfaninTX Says:

    Isn’t Robert Hainsey a guard ?

  13. Bird Says:

Hainesy literally has played every position besides center in college. He played tackle (more right) and guard

So he is likely the backup to several spots on line this year

  14. Pewter report Says:

Thank you Ryan Jensen. Everyone is scared to death of losing a starter even though it happens around the nfl every year. Cappa is no marquee player but guess he will be for the bengals like Jensen wasn’t for the ravens but is for us

  15. Jmarkbuc Says:

I wonder what TB12 could make out of Jarvis Landry🤔?

  16. BA4President Says:

So does this mean we take a Guard in the first round?

  17. Joe Says:

Hainesy literally has played every position besides center in college.

To directly quote a Bucs coach at the combine who spoke with Joe, “Once you have been in the NFL a year what you did in college doesn’t mean jack sh!t.”

  18. Todd Says:

“And with the 27th pick, the Bucs draft Zion Johnson!”

  19. Bucsfanman Says:

I too have faith. There was little to no drop-off when Stinnie was thrust into action for Cappa.
Also, we have this “GOAT” person who has somehow managed to disguise an average-ish LT into a decent one!

  20. SKBucsFan Says:

Jensen’s leadership will help ensure the young guard that Licht drafts will be well coached/mentored. Hopefully some of that nastiness rubs off.

  21. Tbbucs3 Says:

KC replaced two tackles from their 2020 season….the Bucs will be able to replace two gaurds which is a easier transition than tackles

  22. SufferingSince76 Says:

    Zion Johnson, if he’s there.

  23. ModHairKen Says:

When Angry Red says something, you can count on it. ROH. Likely HOF. And a great member of this community. Hope he remains a Buc for life.

  24. steele Says:

Revenge tour should begin with analyzing losses to Saints and Rams. Stopping Aaron Donald, etc.

  25. R.Forte Says:

I know this subject is all about the o line, however I have not heard, and maybe it’s out there, but who is going to run the ball?

  26. John Mason Says:

Bucs are targeting Z. Johnson guard from BC….He is a plug in starter. With the addition of Guard Mason from the Pats, things are falling in place for the O-line.

  27. Jay Bee Says:

    Signed Shaq Mason

  28. JimbobBucsFan Says:

Sounds to me like Hansey will have to try to unseat Stinnie as Marpet’s replacement on the left side. I know it is only a hint.
