Prediction: BSPN Believes Deshaun Watson Lands In Tampa Bay
March 5th, 2022After hearing virtually all NFL coaches and general managers spin and massage and speak crafted messages at the combine in the Indiana Convention Center this week, Fields Yates of BSPN has heard enough to decipher what teams will stick with its current quarterback and which will go get one.
And if the Bucs are serious about contending for a Super Bowl — and Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians didn’t return to coach a team looking to stock up on draft picks to rebuild — then that means the Bucs have to hit a home run in the coming weeks to land a decent quarterback.
So Yates believes Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht will bite the bullet and ship plenty of draft picks and player capital to Houston to anoint Deshaun Watson as Tom Brady’s replacement.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Projected 2022 starter: Deshaun WatsonTampa Bay has plenty of the pieces in place to remain a Super Bowl contender, but its quarterback vacancy is as glaring as any team in the league right now. Watson, who didn’t play in 2021, is facing 22 civil cases filed by women who have accused him of sexual assault and inappropriate behavior. The NFL is also investigating Watson’s case. There would need to be a resolution in these cases before any trade came into play.
If Watson does become available, though, Tampa Bay would likely need to fork over major draft and/or player compensation to Houston, who will continue to develop Davis Mills. While the Bucs are not assured to acquire a top-flight veteran this offseason to replace Tom Brady, it’s the team’s most logical path to stay atop the NFC South.
So who do the Bucs ship out if players are involved? The Bucs have so many that are free agents. Do the Bucs part ways with one of their inside linebackers? One of their safeties?
Does Houston really value Tyler Johnson or Scotty Miller or Nick Leverett (remember, lousy Lovie Smith and his warped and twisted player evaluation is involved so he can be taken)?
March 5th, 2022 at 8:12 am
That would be one reason to stick with Gabbert/Trask for the near term–Watson’s immediate grief (whether he’s charged or not) won’t be resolved until after the free agency period, and face it, there aren’t any available who’d improve our lot anyway
March 5th, 2022 at 8:13 am
Can safely abbreviate BSPN as just BS
March 5th, 2022 at 8:15 am
Well we do have the ability to use the franchise tag on a player like Carlton Davis and trade him
March 5th, 2022 at 8:20 am
Everyone who works for Walt Disney (ESPN) is a piece of garbage…
March 5th, 2022 at 8:21 am
Tony Dungy always said character is a main factor in signing or drafting a player. But I guess that was one of the reasons he was fired
Apparently the Glazers and Licht do not care about character. I understand everyone needs a second chance but apparently hes had 22 second chances.
March 5th, 2022 at 8:21 am
Just more lazy idiotic analysis from a group of morons.
March 5th, 2022 at 8:28 am
All these stories are to drive up the price….until free agency hits, it’s all smokescreens.
March 5th, 2022 at 8:34 am
Some people act like Watson is public enemy number one.
He did not kill or rob anyone, and all his accusers are women who work at massage parlors!
Women do not work at Massage Parlors because they sung too loud in Church.
Anyone ever think that maybe these women know who he is, and want to get some easy money ?
March 5th, 2022 at 8:36 am
as the face of the Bucs ….NOT cool if Watson !!!
March 5th, 2022 at 8:39 am
Letsbuccinggo Says
“Apparently the Glazers and Licht do not care about character.”
You are assuming this article is accurate…here’s a more probable Watson scenario:
Houston voids Watson’s contract because of the misconduct clause, cut him, and he gets a 1+ year suspension…which still isn’t enough time to resolve his legal issues.
That will mean he hasn’t played for 2+ seasons…which will likely mean his career is done.
No team is going to trade for him. He’ll be a low-fat free agent.
March 5th, 2022 at 8:40 am
The bail money will break us, too high.
March 5th, 2022 at 8:41 am
I would pass unless we could trade Davis III for him straight up. Go with Trask, resign Playoff Lenny, Jensen, Cappa, Stinnie, Godwin, Whitehead. Draft corner rd 1, tight end rd 2 and dt rd 3. Use remaining picks to trade back into rd 3 and draft another dt or tight end.
March 5th, 2022 at 8:41 am
The national media’s insistence that there’s a big market for this guy is mind numbing
March 5th, 2022 at 8:42 am
@ chris
If it was one or two women I would say maybe you have a point…
But 22?!?!?!?!?!
Come on man… How many more woman decided not to come forward?
What if one of these women were your sister or wife?
March 5th, 2022 at 8:43 am
Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa, it doesn’t matter. Look at Winston’s former situation. He got suspended for just one woman. We’re talking 22 women with Watson.
There is absolutely no way he is innocent. Not with that many woman.
March 5th, 2022 at 8:44 am
He is clearly better than any qb we have.
He is good but not great
Then he has mad issues as a person
March 5th, 2022 at 8:44 am
And the NFL has public relations to consider. Year plus suspension, maybe 2 years.
March 5th, 2022 at 8:56 am
I know everyone keeps talking about a giant haul in trade that the Texans will get but I believe it outside the football field goes fine then it is deshaun Watson that holds all the power
People forget that Watson had no intention of ever playing another snap for the Texans even before the civil cases.
People forget that Watson has a no trade clause.. so he will effectively decide where he goes and can simply say I’m only going to the Bucs!! At that point what can the Texans do because they aren’t going to pay him 38 million to do nothing. Time is ticking away as Texans get closer to having to start paying on that 38 million
March 5th, 2022 at 8:57 am
Dassault is part of the ESPN/NFL move to make the quarterback position look like the cornerback position.
March 5th, 2022 at 9:01 am
Tampa bay thugs. We all know that bruce absent is okay with it.
March 5th, 2022 at 9:11 am
Don’t do it. He’s too expensive in players and picks.
March 5th, 2022 at 9:11 am
Cam Brate and Kyle Trask
March 5th, 2022 at 9:21 am
Watson has destroyed his future in Houston – do the Buccaneers want to bring him in as the face of the franchise and basically tell the fans “ignore the off field debauchery and just look at those stats!”
It’s a huge gamble that could return the organization to laughingstock status.
March 5th, 2022 at 9:24 am
Sure. Darcy and he can have partys with ladies in red thing. Jeez, jameis again?
March 5th, 2022 at 9:28 am
By the way, Yates has Trubisky starting for Colts in September.
March 5th, 2022 at 9:30 am
So….we are giving up players……spending a fortune limiting our ability to sign FAs….giving up draft picks…..and waiting to see how long Watson’s NFL suspension is…..only to sign an absolute PR nightmare?
I just don’t think so……
March 5th, 2022 at 9:33 am
What if we’re one of the teams Rodgers is thinking about rn????
March 5th, 2022 at 9:40 am
These women didn’t work at massage parlors that specialize in the happy ending. They were professional masseur’s who are used on a regular bass by professional athletes. They certainly didn’t sign up for his Jeffrey Epstein tactics.
March 5th, 2022 at 9:45 am
Chris@Apple, seriously dude? You must be trolling because you can’t really be that stupid? Or maybe you like doing the same things? Either way horrifically bad take from you. The accusers DID NOT work in massage parlors they were all professional misuses that worked for legitimate companies, do a little research before you make yourself look like an idiot.
March 5th, 2022 at 10:05 am
Innocent until proven guilty no one cares about that anymore that is ungodly to people who don’t believe in the heavenly father. Which sounds like most of you do, because if you did you won’t judge until the decision is made.
March 5th, 2022 at 10:14 am
@Marine Buc
My sisters would never be caught dead, in a massage parlor, for one.
I just read an article that said it was common knowledge in Houston that Watson was known to frequent massage parlors!
My friend lived up in Boston, when the scandal broke about the Catholic Priest molesting male children. He personally knows 3 people who go easy money from the Catholic Church, for claiming they were molested by this Priest, when they were Kids!
It was easy money, because the Catholic Church fond it easier to give the liars money, to basically shut them up!
Women who work in Massage Parlors make their living hustling Men. I think that is what is going on here, women looking for an easy payday.
Think about it ? If there was any merit to their claims, do you not think the Houston District Attorney would have filed criminal charges, by now ?
March 5th, 2022 at 10:18 am
Innocent until proven guilty. No one cares about that anymore because whatever most people say for or against it has to be true. Glory to God that is not his philosophy or we would all go to hell. Sounds like most don’t care anyway the way we judge as a society. If he did it he needs to ask for forgiveness and will be punished, if he didn’t all the accusers need to do the same as well. Its sad to ruin people’s reputation and they have not been found guilty or even charged yet. SMH
March 5th, 2022 at 10:40 am
The last time the Bucs chose a menace to society as QB they had 5 years of losing…. Some people never learn… Plus, he is liable to quit on the team just as soon as he is unhappy with a coach just like he did with the Texans…
The Bucs will deserve every bit of the mess they get into if they touch that ‘radioactive’ qb!
March 5th, 2022 at 10:53 am
@Chris, if you read the civil suit statements only 1 of 22 women worked at massage parlour. The rest were masseuses he found online or other ways and hired to do offsite massages.
Two of 22 women are accusing forced sexual acts beyond a rub, which is an accusation of sexual assault, the remaining alleged attacks all seemingly were rejected the vast majority 20/22 of his alleged attempts according to their statements were rebuffed.
So if these women indeed did this type of work before the vast majority didn’t think it was worth or wanted assisting Watson a multi millionaire pro athlete.
However, he will settle with them to avoid testifying and as I predicted is coming to Tampa. He’s the best talent available in the NFL and Tampa media seem to willing to forgive indiscretions if it means winning.
Tom should be traded today to whoever he wants to play for for a 1st pick, and Tampa should trade 2 1st and a 2nd for Watson as the rest of the availability leagues QBs can’t win SB or playoff games at this point except Jimmy.
March 5th, 2022 at 10:53 am
I would rather see the bucs use intelligence rather than pursue immediate gratification. Super Bowls are great but building a good team for the long term is more interesting to me.
March 5th, 2022 at 11:11 am
I think the Bucs will be the last man standing in the Watson QB game–because they have Trask as backup. Wait and wait and wait more and by then all the other teams have made their plans but thete is the Bucs ready for him we could get him and ride out the next year while he is on sideline doing his nfl suspension
March 5th, 2022 at 11:31 am
@NewEnglandPatriotsFan
Mike Florio says there will be no need to Trade Tom Brady, because he only signed his new contract to help out with the Salary Cap. So, according to Mike Florio who is a Lawyer, Brady can easily get out of his contract.
Very Interesting, huh ?
March 5th, 2022 at 11:42 am
If your going to bring Watson in just re-sign Winston. He doesn’t cost a thing in compensation.
March 5th, 2022 at 11:51 am
test post
March 5th, 2022 at 11:51 am
It’s not happening. There is no way they take that risk, giant contract, and draft pick comp. HOU is going to have to lower their alleged draft pick demands as Watson will probably not even be available for half a season. Even if Watson were a free agent, I wouldn’t want my team taking on a s3xual pr3dator. He’d have to be found completely innocent of the charges (unlikely) and not just negotiate a settlement. And if you take on a giant contract like Watson, we’ll have problems paying other players. It would blow up the team. Not worth it, at all.
March 5th, 2022 at 11:52 am
Hey Mike, I think instant gratification is what started this whole mess for Watson. If the Bucs would sign Watson, imagine the blow back from women’s rights groups and Me Too. Plus we don’t know what his penalty from the league is yet.
March 5th, 2022 at 11:53 am
Nope. Would be the kiss of death for the next few years. Licht already said he is t trading away the future for a QB. Is he a man of his word? We will see.
March 5th, 2022 at 11:56 am
So apparently s3xua! pr3dat0r can’t be spelled out. The post goes into the bit-buck3t, filtered out, not even moder8ed. Is that now pr0hibited conversation?
March 5th, 2022 at 11:58 am
Time is on the bucs side. As the offseason unfolds the options for Houston dwindle. They cant plY the guy and have to eat millions if they release him. Plus he has a no trade clause.
i wouldnt cough up multiple draft choices but if we can get him for less go for it.
Nobody on here has ever met Watson or knows whether he is a bad guy or not. Im unconvinced the massage girls were authentically distressed by his overtures. Id like to see their internet advertisements for the “massages”.
March 5th, 2022 at 12:00 pm
Big big big mistake. Don’t do it 😂
March 5th, 2022 at 12:16 pm
Bull!!! Where were these agitators when the Bucs drafted and kept Jameis? Where were these folks when the Bucs signed Antonio Brown?
March 5th, 2022 at 12:19 pm
Yes ideally you would want to have a Brady level talent with a Brady level of off the field.
Or even be happy with a single accusation quickly settled out of court or a physical assault like Kamara/Mixon/Hill/Hunt/Peterson etc is accused of. Or even physical abuse of a spouse/family member i think has been accused at 40+ players in recent memory. The media and fan base is quick to forgive with the right level of talent it seems.
They even returned convicted DUI manslaughter players a few times, or players with multiple fire arms offenses where people nearly got killed from recklessness but no one was hit.
Oddly the NFL is a league with 1600 +/- players each year with about 65% maintaining longer careers and about 10% seem to get involved with all this off the field problems.
I remember when I was in college there was a student whom was friends of my sister she accused 2 college football players of r@pe at a party, she was dating another football player at the time. She went directly to hospital and reported it that night. As it resulted in a huge fight at the party and police were called.
It made the news briefly but school killed the story, and one accused player already was convicted of sexual assault prior as a minor, and basically the police said so much alcohol involved and stupidity at party on all parts encourage no perusing case. So nothing occurred.
One of the guys actually went to CFL briefly but never was that good and no criminal charges were even laid or suspensions.
And the school at the time had all those zero tolerance policy on everything but didn’t want the bad press and to scare away women from the school so preferred a silent approach.
March 5th, 2022 at 12:45 pm
Joe Says:
March 5th, 2022 at 12:16 pm
Agitators?
There’s a big difference when we’re talking about 22 assault cases.
March 5th, 2022 at 1:07 pm
you won’t have to give up as much as you think for this distort…
and if the nfl wants him to land in tampa, it’ll be a smoother transition than you think for the team and the nfl…
but how will the fans react…
if he straightens out his “dirty old/young man” ways, over a little time we will grow to make him our own…
could take a minute, and a few thrilling game winning drives to sway the bucs fanbase…
#AyeVasectomyMightHelpHimToo
March 5th, 2022 at 1:16 pm
Well said Chris Apple. Them massage parlor women ain’t exactly singin for the Tabernacle choir baby! People act like Watson robbed a bank or lead an insurrection…..His attys just gotta figure out a set price. Every woman…has a price. And most of you know, these women gold digging..lookin for a payday. I hope we do get Watson. The man is a winner and I do believe he get us to that promised land once again.
March 5th, 2022 at 1:39 pm
trade tom to san fran for a 1st rounder and kittle…
just do it…
he goes, takes gronk with him…so sf is all set at tight end for now…
we then have kittle and keep cam on a hopefully reduced salary, have a blocking te of sorts, and mcelroy or maybe bring tanner hudson back in the mix – i think he flopped out in san fran or where ever he went…
then trade for watson – give them 2 first rounders, and as little as you can beyond that…
kittle in a bucs uni would be sick in its own right — imagine that!
March 5th, 2022 at 1:39 pm
One of the biggest concerns will be the criminal charges. I would like an update on those. Those can mean jail time. I cannot question this guys talent….
March 5th, 2022 at 2:04 pm
Another concern would be it happening again. He obviously has an addiction
March 5th, 2022 at 2:23 pm
This will never happen.
I’ll give you 10-1 odds…never happen.
Watson is a piece of garbage.
Let’s rip the fanbase in half like winston(that scumbag).
March 5th, 2022 at 2:45 pm
i don’t care if they had to transport Watson from prison to play the games. I watch football to see the best in the world play
Its entertainment. I don’t want to delude myself into thinking the players are pollly purebread desciples. They are playing a game for $. Thats it.
March 5th, 2022 at 3:01 pm
Eric, there are kids watching also. Role models.
March 5th, 2022 at 3:36 pm
@ eric – and that’s why no one gives a flying f what you think. LOL.
March 5th, 2022 at 4:00 pm
Kaepernick would be a better option vs Watson at this point. Kap has never been accused of anything near rape or assault, probably has some good years left since he has been out. I don’t agree with the dudes politics, but he has a right to an opinion, like Brady and he supported the last dumpster fire prez. Has lead a team to the SB before……
March 5th, 2022 at 4:19 pm
Welcome to the age of ‘Court of Public Opinion’
March 5th, 2022 at 4:28 pm
Tell your kids not to look up to football players as role models. They arent nor should they be.
March 5th, 2022 at 4:31 pm
So who do the Bucs ship out if players are involved?
———–
I’d guess 2 first rounders, probably a 2nd and 3rd as well, and Vita.
If you get a top starting QB for a decade, that’s a small price to pay.
Of course if they could pay less, then great.
March 5th, 2022 at 4:43 pm
Bring him to Tampa!!!
March 5th, 2022 at 5:49 pm
90% of NFL players are great guys. They would make great role models.
March 5th, 2022 at 7:13 pm
Watson QB1
March 5th, 2022 at 8:48 pm
@ Rod:
two 1st rounders…preferably ours and the 49ers…
a 3rd rounder…
vita’s old broken tooth…
licht’s old burgundy blazer…
and an old pic of lane kiffin that used to sit on monte’s desk that’s still laying around one buc…
that’s it for that horndogg
March 5th, 2022 at 9:19 pm
Didn’t 70 million religious conservatives vote for a POTUS with similar civil cases against him? You’d think POTUS would be a higher moral bar than FB Qb.
March 5th, 2022 at 10:17 pm
Why are people so invested in someone else’s sex life. Watson is a top 10 qb in this league. Without a qb this team has no chance. Look at the brightside no city has as many strip clubs and rub and tugs as Tampa or Houston. Bring him here he will fit right in
March 6th, 2022 at 4:01 am
Joe it doesn’t matter what “groups” get mad. The media was going around camp asking fans why they were still wearing Jameis jerseys. The problem lies with the corporate media.
March 6th, 2022 at 2:55 pm
THE BEST COURSE OF ACTION …
1. If Licht wants Watson, you first get Watson’s consent (via agent).
2. You tell everyone you like who you’ve got (Gabbert).
3. Then you wait …
This is exactly what they’re doing.
With the no trade clause and a big guaranteed contract, the Texans have little bargaining power.
