Antonio Bryant Not A Fan Of Jeff Garcia
May 12th, 2010Joe’s been busy, so Joe apologizes he has been a bit late on this. Seems as though Jeff Garcia was not one of Antonio Bryant’s favorite quarterbacks.
The duo became one of the more dynamic passing combinations in Bucs history when Bryant’s career was resuscitated by Chucky. Bryant told Bengals.com that Garcia forced Bryant to run two routes, documented by MDS of ProFootballTalk.com.
“Garcia’s a good player, but you had to run two routes. The route and then the Jeff route.”
This quote was also interesting given the fact Bryant had a career year with Garcia forcing Bryant to run two routes each play.
This also reminded Joe of a clip on NFL Network that showed Chucky completely freaking out as Garcia came to the sideline after an incompletion. Chucky was beside himself that Garcia was “freelancing” virtually on every play and Chucky lost it.
Joe was very impressed the number of f-laced adjectives and adverbs Chucky hurled at Garcia in one sentence. It was beautiful.

With pics like that we need more Garcia articles imo.

Joe misses Garcia. Carmella too.

Joe, buddy, now that’s what I’m talking about. Carm rocks!!! Wooowooo!!!

Joe trusts you have been monitoring the Bucs official Twitter feed the past couple of days.
(Does a wet, scantily-clad Jaime Hanna do anything for you?)

LOL!!!

They just moved the quote into a different post with more context. Pretty much says the same thing though.

As I recall that the freelancing worked pretty well, but nowhere near as spectacular as Mrs. Garcia.
May 12th, 2010 at 11:10 am
Nothing negative to say about Carm or AB for that matter!
But blamingv Freeman’s picks on AB is crazy.
May 12th, 2010 at 11:11 am
But this is no surprise if you actually watched the games… Jeff takes the snap… can’t see over the line, runs away from the blitz, has a weenie arm so all the WRs had to break down and run their secondary come back routes… Garcia used the “broken play” routes like they were designed just for him.

@RahDomDaBest
You forgot the end of the play…………………………TOUCHDOWN.
May 12th, 2010 at 11:18 am
Thanks Steve!

Garcia was at his best when he broke the pocket and played sandlot football.
May 12th, 2010 at 11:42 am
Yeah I used to love those fair catches Antonio Byrant use to have to make on some of those Jeff “happy-feet” Garcia passes!
May 12th, 2010 at 11:45 am
No surprise here. Garcia was a happy-feet rouge QB for us, even Bill Muir mentioned it. Hard to win games, when your QB has his own game plan.

What a lovely picture Joe, and I agree with you guys Garcia did what he had to in order to get the job done. And you know what? He was a winner. It’s strange that he get’s cast out of every team he goes to cause he does nothing but win games and put you in the playoffs…
May 12th, 2010 at 1:00 pm
I wonder if AB would have liked Fran Tarkenton.
May 12th, 2010 at 1:00 pm
I think Benn & Williams will be just fine. K2, fine. Stroughter, fine. Clayton, toast. Stovall has been a beast at times on special teams. Bryant was hurt so much and it didn’t seem like the kind of hurt that heels quickly. I don’t see Bryant playing a whole lot in 2010′ because of ailments. I like having the young legs, and the Bucs have plenty of those now. I like Carmelita’s Legs too.
I like Michael Spurlock and he is still on the roster. Yo Bucs!
May 12th, 2010 at 1:44 pm
It’s funny AB says that, because he has a reputation as being a poor route runner. There’s a theory that he makes a lot of great circus catches because he’s always a couple of yards from where he should really be.
May 12th, 2010 at 2:01 pm
Blame it on Mr. Guru Gruden, he could not find a better QB in FA that was willing to play for him.
May 12th, 2010 at 2:04 pm
Benn had a grand total of seven touchdown catches in his entire college carrear.
I know folks throw out 2009 cause of poor QB play, but he only had two in 07 and three in 08.
By contrast AB had 10 td’s in just his final season at Pitt.
Why is this Benn guy the second coming of Jerry Rice again?
May 12th, 2010 at 2:20 pm
Eric,
No one said Benn was Jerry Rice.
I think it is you that is acting like Bryant and Brandon Marshall are the second coming of Jerry Rice.
May 12th, 2010 at 3:07 pm
2007
Marshall placed fifth in receptions (102), sixth in receiving yards (1,325), second in yards after the catch (505), first in yards after first contact (319), first in number of times targeted (170) and tied for fourth in catches that led to first downs (70).
2008
Marshall finished the season ranked third among NFL wide receivers in receptions (104), seventh in receiving yards (1,265), fifth in receiving yards per game (84.3), seventh in yards after the catch (419), third in catches that led to first downs (65) and first in number of times targeted for the second consecutive season (181).
2009
Marshall ended the season tied for third among NFL wide receivers in catches (101), tied for seventh in receiving touchdowns (10), seventh in yards after the catch (527) and fifth in number of times targeted (154
You guys are right, we definately could not have used a guy like this. Id rather have Benn.
May 12th, 2010 at 3:47 pm
@ Eric
I think you and I finally see eye to eye on a topic. If the team was going to re-sign AB, they should have traded for Marshall instead. Marshall is head and shoulders above Bryant in every way. If we’re gonna have a head case #1 WR, why not make it a better one? Bryant got suspended for a year, Marshall only 2 games, by the NFL. Bryant had 2 of 8 good seasons, Marshall 3 of 4.
Of course, speculating on whether we should have kept AB or traded for Marshall is moot, as we have neither and need to get behind Benn and Williams.
May 12th, 2010 at 4:30 pm
gotta admit, whenever i looked at garcia or heard him speak, my “GAYDAR” went off…..as TO used to say, he’s gay……..then he marries basically one of the finest pieces in the world….go figure….personally i dont care what he does in the bedroom and with whom….but i wonder if he falls into that same catagory as john travolta, keanu reeves, derek jeter, magic johnson, etc…..who at all extremes appear to live a straight lifestyle while privately are living the gay lifestyle…….adam from ny

Why is every other article about Antonio Bryant ??

“Of course, speculating on whether we should have kept AB or traded for Marshall is moot, as we have neither and need to get behind Benn and Williams.”
But I like rank speculation and complaining about things I have no control over.

@Adam wow a little off topic and kind of strange post.
